Rowing: The Pick Drill

Спорт

Cady Hart-Petterssen takes a group through the pick drill on the Concept2 rower. This basic warm-up drill involves transitioning through each part of the stroke, starting with just the arms, then arms and body, and finally, arms, body and legs for a full slide. I'm surprised to see this on the crossfit channel. Rowed all throughout high school and did this EVERYDAY before our rows. A great drill for discovering flaws in rowing, really breaking down the stroke.

As a rower, it doesn't make any sense to me why you would teach a rowing course without taking these people on the water. After one session on the water everything coaches tell you on the erg suddenly have a reason for being so important, athletically you get the input and feedback to tell just how importance balance and timing is to yielding maximum power from your drive.

Because it's not a rowing course, it's teaching people how to use an indoor RowErg which is a different sport.

Try getting your shoulders just behind your hips before you drive with the legs. This (in the video) is called "shooting your ass" and will fatigue you super fast. Catch with hands rock back then engage the biggest muscle groups, quads and flutes, then finish with arms to release and reach again.
