Setting the damper on a Concept 2 Rower - Skyline CrossFit

What should I put my damper at? Always a popular question during row workouts. When should it be set high and when should it be set low? Just like everything in CrossFit the answer is....... depends on the person. Heres the breakdown.

Wow, such a great and thorough explanation! I had no idea how the damper actually worked, this is super helpful and I will definitely keep this in mind for my workouts. And excellent demonstrations by Crystal! Thank you for sharing!

A quick question for you. I have been attempting to set a time mark for a particular distance. I normally row at a damper setting of 4. I tried the distance at 2, and hated it. This morning, I did the distance at 6...and knocked almost 25 seconds off my PB. What does this mean? How should I interpret the result? (I know; TWO questions. LOL)

That's great you probably do better with a higher stroke rate, hence the higher damper improvement. It's all dependent on the athlete and the distance.

What should the damper be if you need to do 2000m under 10 minutes.. explosive athlete.

higher damper is for heavy lifters with slower rate. lower damper is for bunny rabbits, very low strength but high rep rate

Depends on distance but incorrect high damper is for 🐇 at higher distances. It's all about "is there tension on fly wheel?". If you have a high stroke rate then you want a higher damper.

@@Turbo_Tastic It depends. I'm strictly talking to CrossFitters. Generally in CrossFit the rower will be just one part of the workout. This usually means not maximal effort. A paced effort. Following what I said usally helps while rowing in workouts. Try it out.. Test it first, then let me know what you think.

@@dylankucish8756 Whether I'm doing A 5K or A 2K it seems like putting the damper on 10 definitely makes it a better time for me, lower splits.. I have experimented with lower but can't keep the split low
