Rolex Milsub versus Sundial! Man's Greatest Cover Story!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Your watch is not faithful to the natural rhythms of the heavens! The time on your watch (in this video a Rolex Milsub from the 1970s) is almost always different to the time on a sundial. In this video I explain the difference between a Solar Day and a Sidereal day and how they relate to the time shown on a clock or watch. I examine what is maybe mankind's cleverest cover story. I describe why and how your watch has been lying to you. Also featured in this video a 1970s Rolex Milsub.

It is not only fascinating that these watch repairs are superlative, and well explained, but also endearing that you put a lot of personality into it. I'm imagining there is a lot of science that compels this sort of perspective. Indeed, the earth goes around the sun in many dimensions, moving forward, spinning, and also tilting and wobbling, and speeds up and slows down. The face value of science likes to see it as a precise mechanical process like a car engine at a fixed ratio. That is a particularly startling sub too, visually. Todays subs have changed so little from it.

Great feedback Graham, I try to make videos on subjects that I am interested in myself and I think other folks will also find interesting and enjoy watching. Stay tuned for more on the Rolex Milsub. Richard

I knew it. 24 hours. Too damn perfect and round a number to be true. The music you chose really makes me feel like I am being filled in on some ominous information from which the veil has been lifted, and soon after I am going to be tasked with bringing _them_ down--the ominous THEM--who sold us this lie of 24 hours, and will prove exceptionally challenging to take down since they are always four minutes ahead of us. What a video. Top quality.

I'm an engineer and I though this was very interesting. Might have heard about it before but I don't remember it. They must have thought for a while how to measure time with a watch, this mean value, very clever. Nicely done story, got stuck right away 😀

The Earth is also closer to the sun during part of its orbit. It is closest to the sun (and moving faster by 1km/sec) around the 3rd of January than it is on the 3rd of July. Therefore, a day is a different length of time relative to the sun on those dates.

I watch (pun intended) and enjoy your videos. And there's a lot of interesting information in here, thanks. But aren't you a touch overboard? The watch doesn't lie. It simply does what it's designed to do, tell me what the time is during every day use. Most sundials, are not as sophisticated as your example and don't have seasonal adjustment. And many aren't even set up properly for latitude. What does amaze me is the precision which many ancient structures were created to allow the sun to shine on a precise spot on one or two days a year....

Hi kevgermany .... great observation! I confess that I am definitely and consciuosly 'a touch overboard'. My aim was to wrap some interesting and little known information in a 'sparkly wrapper' so folks might actually open it and get the benefit of it. Hope this modus operandi mitigates my actions here! Richard

And even then the story is not complete; the Earth speeds up and slows down owing to the effects of the tides, and shifting distribution of ice at the poles. So GMT is divorced now entirely from the motion of the stars.
