    A vintage watch dealer here in the UK told me that there was a time (I think in the late 1980s or early 1990s?) when the remaining stock of Milsubs that were never issued to divers were being sold off from the Royal Navy stores as military surplus. He said his father was offered a whole little box of them! But apparently people weren't especially interested in them at that time because they had the "wrong" hands and bezel.🤪 (Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I guess a dealer who took 5 or 10 of these in pristine condition and just kept them in his safe would have had a nice little retirement fund 20 or 25 years later...)

    about that time I had two in my desk drawer that I could have bought as nm and d for 32 quid each ,,, every one wanted the new quartz then and no one bothered with old clockwork watches ,,, that would equate to a nice house for 64 quid ,,,

    @@Leec_1972 Yep a steel cupboard somewhere with a brown box with a dozen of the in would not surprise me ,, at the time that I had two in my drawer the max fine for a nm and d , negligence miss use and damage was 32 quid ,, you could loose anything and py the fine and it was written off your 1755 [ from memory ] sheet and thats the sheet that all the stuff you signed for is recorded on.

    Amazing video really. At one point I was thinking “awesome that he is cleaning the dial, but what is he cleaning off?”, and then you told me 👍🏻 Great result. This watch is why I love the FXD, fixed lugs. I love the idea of narrower NATO straps being a flex 😂

    The actual reason you see 18mm NATO straps is because the MOD had a surplus of 18mm straps from older smaller model watches. To use them up, they issued them on 20mm lug watches. But today it is a nice way to admire the fixed bars for sure. The vintage nylon webbing is miles better (stiffer and thicker) than the newer phoenix straps that fray after a week of wear..

    Ive heard that as well. But they did have 20mm natos in the 70s and were issued with both. Agreed re-vintage vs modern on feel.

    Beautiful work and what an amazing example of a Milsub. So you are saying if you use straight clear binder on the back of the hands for stabilization, that would alter the color of the existing lume? What cleaning agent were you using to clean the oil from around the indice? Happy I found your channel and subscribed.

  • @TruePatina

    Yes clear binder to dry trit will alter the color. The cleaning solvents are proprietary.

    Regarding original crystal and true dome how do they compare? Are original ones available from rolex or not? What effect does alcohol have on these parts that cause cracking? A simple wipe could do this damage? Thanks

  • @TruePatina

    @TruePatina

    5 ай бұрын

    TrueDome and original Rolex or any watch with an acrylic crystal will be negatively impacted/effected by alcohol or other abrasives. A light swipe of an alcohol swab might not do much but why risk it. There are plenty of other things to use to clean acrylic. More info on comparisons can be found in my TrueDome channel.

    Imagine if it fell off and it broke? Vostok's don't break if they hit the floor from that height and as Rolex tool watches of that age and era are built to the same high standards as a Vostok Amphibia neither will the Rolex. They were both designed and built to fulfill exactly the same function.
