    I whole heartedly agree ! Few things in life are perfect and built to last a lifetime. Rolex is one. Secondary market inflation aside, at MSRP, they are indeed an extraordinary value. I had lusted for a submariner, for 35 years. Then 2 1/2 years ago on our 33rd anniversary, my wife arranged one to appear while browsing at a local AD. Both the wife and watch are keepers! The watch will someday be passed to my son, who as a US Navy Rescue Swimmer, has already earned it.

    Your great appreciation for Rolexes always shines through in your videos and just always reinforces my love for Rolex (I have a vintage 1975 Datejust). Rolex watches are truly great timepieces and I really feel watch collectors should make it a point to own at least one if at all possible. Then they would know why they cost so much and would not need to complain about expensive they are. I would love to see an inside look at the 1570 caliber Rolex movement from you. Off topic but a a watch modder I have a concern about "tropical" patina, water damage on the dial, lume and hands. How long does it take to set in and is it preventable?, I'm careful not to open the watch when the humidity level is above 35% with out running the AC to not get condensation damage but I have a bad habit of leaving projects disassembled while waiting for parts.

    It's all silly though. You can afford a mass produced automatic mechanical watch. I bought a couple of the cheapest in existence recently and you know what? They're accurate for a mechanical watch. The first one I bought for $30 (a somewhat ugly chinese skeleton watch) took 11 days to lose half a minute. The second one I bought for $17 actually looks fine and seems similarly accurate. I know you're tempted to say these are trash, but you know, they're based on variations on a design that China came up with between 1969 and 1971. They've been making these for 50 years. I'd be curious to see one of these under a microscope. I understand they look basically like a traditional mechanical watch, not something completely disposable like an old timex mechanical movement.

    Some people dont understand why a Rolex is this expensive, when they look at the way the movement is made and the care is taken to assemble it all together they will understand. I hope. Thank you for another great lesson.

    Ik snap wat je bedoelt Jeroen maar 15 jaar geleden maakte ze hetzelfde alleen kon je ze toen voor 2,5k kopen inplaats van 10.000. Dan ga ik toch een beetje achter mijn oren krabben

    This is all fine: walk into an authorized Rolex dealer and see how many of these "Hulk" Submariners you can actually purchase at even MSRP.

    It has been replaced now to the clients satisfaction you will be pleased to know ... and ... you don't clean out the case of dust until just before you replace the movement and then a high pressure blower is used. Doing it before is just a waste of time. Hope this helps. Richard

    This is 300m diver. Is there any way to test for over 60m?

  • @richardperrettwatchmaker

    @richardperrettwatchmaker

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi poopy_fingers ... certainly there is but the equipment is very expensive and I do not have it. For most folks 60m is fine as it means the watch is water tight for all 'normal' water based activities like swimming, washing the car, showering .... most folks would not be worrying about their watch if they found themselves with 60 meters of water above them I figure. Thanks for checking out my content. Richard

    I noticed you only tested the watch to 60 metres in your water test. These watches are rated to 300 metres. How can the customer be sure the watch is adequately waterproof?

  • @richardperrettwatchmaker

    @richardperrettwatchmaker

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi cirrusmckinney ... 60m is actually pretty deep, 10m would be 'more than adequate' for most folks who just want to swim or wear it in the shower. Not many professional divers work as deep as 300m. Customers normally want to know if the watch is 'waterproof' and a 60m test establishes that for most people. Sure it is maybe rated to 300m but that is mainly a marketing thing and most people do not want to pay the significant extra $ to get a 300m test when they are normally just wearing the watch in the office or a cafe. If you average person finds themselves 60meters under water the last thing they will be worrying about is .. 'is my watch still working'. Good question though. Hope this helps. Richard

    Sure - it is a well-made and beautiful watch - but over $15,000 worth of well-madeness and beaty? These things used to cost less than $400 in the early 70's - adjusting for inflation they should cost less than $4,000 today. When you can get a Sinn 556 for $1,100 it really makes the Rolex Submariner seem like a glaring example of "artificial scarcity".
