For the amount of effort and pain these guys put their bodies through, the prize money and the overall recognition this sport gets is insultingly low.

I agree with you, but the reality is that only a very niche audience understands how impressive these lifts are. For people who aren't seriously into weight training, a 300lb deadlift and a 1000lb deadlift are basically the same thing. Just big guys lifting stuff. My friends who don't lift weights dont really comprehend this sport at all.

The recognition AND money/endorsements is at an all time high. For the past three years at least pretty much every commercial gym has strongman equipment of some kind, and lifting weights (deadlifts, squats etc) have become extremely mainstream popular. Your little sister probably deadlifts. Rewind a decade and even someone who is employed as a fitness trainer would not know what a deadlift and farmers walk is. Also, the prize money is astonishingly huge. Strongman is a niche sport even if its more popular than it ever has been. In the sport of powerlifting, in most contests, especially the most credible drug tested sort. There is no prize money at all, competitors actually have to pay to enter! It is this way with most niche sports. These days, because it is so easy to put out videos on youtube/IG and for people to watch them. Strongmen and athletes in all kind of niche sports like rockclimbing or parkour can get significant followings and sell merch or promote products from sponsors. Just a few years ago this would not have been possible.

Audience is extremely small compared to what it was last year (plus I can't see mah boy Larry) 3. Last year the deadlift platform was moving (according to Shaw and others), which might've been the reason for his failure. Perhaps he doesn't like the Arnold setup. 4. Eddie will keep moaning about calibrated weights and stiff bar, even though Elephant bar is obviously harder if you don't train on it. 5. He's attempting 501kg in Dubai in April (I think)
