    A very important step. With the same spotlight across both sides of the sport, I really hope we'll see the women's side flourish, and it's already just as entertaining to watch as the men's. Thanks must be given to fans who actually show up to support both men and women as they've been getting bigger and bigger opportunities, but the lion's share is surely owed to the old guard of athletes who paved the way with nothing but grit and passion.

    Strongman/strongwoman seems to be one of the few sports where the woman's side seems to be gettin fairy close to as popular as the men's side and I LOVE that its from a place of what the woman are actually doing performance wise and not from complaining about how they deserve more. Every woman I've seen in the sport is always just focused on improving themselves and growing instead of worrying about what someone else has. And they have become an awesome watch. I've really enjoyed the last few major woman's comps. It's crazy how far they've come

    I think that motivation for Martins is hard because he won already the three biggest Strongman shows. Maybe he's focusing on building his finance, focusing on his personal life, etc because he knows that being an athlete just puts you to a certain level, and he achieved basically what everyone would have dreamed of one day as being a strogman athlete. Now, the ceiling to him is just winning shows that he already won, and unfortunately be at risk of injuring himself. I think that he maybe will focus on his personal life and projects outside of competitions for now, just like his very cool series of Strength Unknown on his channel, but I don't think he's done competing. He will be back even stronger, mentally and physically

    Big Loz, I don't know where to place this question, a question I've had for a bit. We have the introduction of Mitch Hooper is now currently dominating the strongman stage. One of the issues I have with strongman today, is they are specialized. Folks are coming from mostly non - lifting backgrounds into strongman. I often wonder how they would compare to powerlifters. Are they as strong, and/or where would they place among powerlifter today on the 3 lifts. Back in the late 70's early 80's many of the competitors were previously powerlifter and Olympic lifter, such as Bill Kazmier. He truly is remarkable because while he dominated World's Strongest Man, he also dominated the powerlifting stage as well. I understand he had a total that took about 10 years to break. To me, he is what a real-world strongest man should be. What are your thoughts on comparing today's strongmen to the "classic" group, maybe the golden era to today's modern version?

  • @mustang8206

    @mustang8206

    Ай бұрын

    Well Thor put up one of the highest powerlifting totals ever the first time he competed in powerlifting. Strongmen would do well in powerlifting. Powerlifting tests your ability to be good at 3 specific lifts whereas strongman tests all around strength so while strongmen are stronger than powerlifters they wouldn't necessarily be better at powerlifting than powerlifters. Pretty much all pro athletes specialize. You don't see very many pro soccer players also going pro in basketball. To be the best at your sport you have to specialize, that doesn't make you less of an athlete or not a true strongman

  • @TheKruxed

    @TheKruxed

    Many a strongman can put up good powerlifting totals but its not very often a good powerlifter has much success with strongman

  • @allylilith5605

    @allylilith5605

    Ай бұрын

    back then most of them had a powerlifting background, because strongman as a sport itself didnt exist yet. if you wanted to train for strength, you entered powerlifting back then, and strongman came after. now if you want to train strength, you can go straight for strongman (which many people do, because it is more fun, entertaining, versatile, healthy and useful for day-to-day life, in many people's opinion) strongman should stay versatile enough that fully specializing isnt really a thing. powerlifting is much more running into issues of specialization where "weaker" guys can do quite well because of their levers, and equipment maximization, and it encourages everyone to bulk up to the max because there is basically no drawback to size in terms of performance. strongman forces competitors to be more wellrounded, because the amount of events makes it impossible to hide weaknesses. that being said, mitch was a national powerlifting champ before training strongman, and would probably do quite well in the sport if he specifically trained for it again (which is unnecessary atm)

  • @michaelfrench9062

    @michaelfrench9062

    Ай бұрын

    Mitch was a power lifter, and I believe Booby Thompson was as well. Strongmen don't really specialize. Power lifters and Oly weight lifters specialize, 1-3 lifts. Strongman also gives you more functional, day to day, strength.

  • @RipRoarLB

    @RipRoarLB

    I think a good idea is to set the competition up in a way where the events are not the same for the men and women at the same time so it's exciting to watch for everyone and more diverse events over all. Also it will help keep things exciting because if the events are the same people will just compare records and lose interest in the women's division due to the numbers being lower it will just feel like a B tier line up of the same show. This way it will have its own identity.

  • @allylilith5605

    ye, and if they want to avoid a flood of negative comments, they should also make it clear when the men and when the women compete, rather than setting up start times only for the women's event and the men being after that, so that people who dont want to miss the men are half forced to watch the women. there is no scenario in this world where people who are free to say whatever they want, wont talk shit about something they are feeling forced to watch or feel tricked into watching, to entertain themselves that way

    Of course more money is for the better especially for these types of athletes. It is about time they got a bit more they deserve it after all, strength should be something we respect and of naturally be entertained by. But let us remember we do not want to stare towards other grab and go kind of sports like your UFC, boxing, football, those kind of sports where money seams to be the one and only true driving factor to win. The sport has clearly developed into something pure something no other sport has done before, from bending pipe over athletes heads and arm wrestling to deadlifting and truck pulling. Probably the most evolved sport in History so lets keep it up and not ruin it with buckets full of money.

    I feel like there are just too many people wanting to create their own competition. Not saying athletes like Magnus, Brian etc. haven't earned the right/reputation to start such a competition but it feels like it might just be on the verge of being too much for the competing athletes. They already have to choose where to compete, resulting in missing athletes and a weaker competition. Every additional competition seems to worsen this.

    @@staceygram5555If you look at the growth of how many women are lifting weights, compared to 5 years ago, the rate is much much higher than new men lifting. @staceygram5555 , what is sexist and discriminatory is that women, in sports and life in general, are 99% of the time underpaid for the same type of work, whether it is business or strongman/woman. The women's side of the sport is growing, and imo, they put on as good, if not better, of a show as the men. Therefore, it is deservedly so that they get paid the same.

    @@TL13579 its advertisement but do you really think the women's sport brings in more money than they're pouring into it? This is them operating at a huge loss yes purely to grow the sport. It can be in their longtime interests while also being purely to grow the sport. If the sport grows it benefits fans and Rogue. There's a reason like she said most comps have a 1st place prize similar to the last place here. It's not economically viable for anyone other than someone in Rogue's position to put that much money into this. Even men's pro strongman is a risky investment as the sport is only recently starting to get more and more eyes and views. They're literally putting millions into women's strongman over the next few years with the understanding that it COULD slingshot the growth of the women's side by several years but also not provide a lot or any profit. Yes you can say they get advertisement but let's be honest how many people are watching women's strongman but not men's? Some but likely very few.

    The big problem for Martins is that if his body is not recovering he needs to watch Mitch Hoopers, no stone unturned series, good stuff in there. Unlike a couple of years ago Martins can’t train for three months swoop in and get a big pay day to fund his lifestyle. You just can’t compete with Strongmen like Hooper who put 100% focus all year round,. Also once you get older your body seems to work better in a consistent pattern, not an in and out regime Martins uses.His body has gone past how he wants to train, part time.
