The entire album is basically the story of the band from the beginning til now. I think the sound and story over the course of the album is going to match the timeline

Cannot wait until their full album comes out!!! Feb 2023 cannot come fast enough.

To me the song is about his relationship with the universe and he's exhausted from touring and needs to take a step back from that life and be with his family.

Newest tune You and I gives me Detroit Rock City vibes in the beginning. Then there's another part not long after that reminds me of another classic song but I can for the life of me remember what.

When Legends Rise was definitely radio music. But there really wasn't a single bad song on it. Except Under Your Scars was def a little bit cringe coming from Godsmack.

Don't fix what isn't broken. This is still better than literally anything out there today. New Megadeth was spectacular from the band but Dave's lyrics were absolute garbage. And no "new" bands even belong in this conversation

To each their own. I saw Godsmack about 5 or 6 times and always loved them for their stage presence, but their lyrics have *always* been subpar. Get back/go away/leave me alone/stay away/keep away/etc. They’re all so generic. At some point, I just get tired of the same sound and the same subject over and over. I wish the band would evolve and give us something interesting.

@@MidnightNotion Can't deny the truth in that. But considering EVERY other band shares one trope- I'm so numb, I wish I could feel, I hurt myself just so I can feel something-blah blah blah. I'd rather hear a badass band say "F you, F off" 50 times than listen to 50 different bands sing the same narcissist "It's not my fault I'm a POS(I'm the victim)" line over and over. But I'm also someone who doesn't mind if a good movie has a ton of sequels either

I think I know exactly what you mean. One of the tropes I’m really sick of is “these voices in my head.” At least half the people using that line have no idea how emotions work (or mental disorders, for that matter). May I send you to my last record? It’s called Somewhere in Dreamworld. If you’re a Godsmack fan, I think you’ll like “The Lone Wolf,” but the rest of the album has a lot of genre and lyrical variety. Love, hate, depression, pride, etc.

But yeah, I ultimately agree with you. This song is fine, but there's a lot of other bands with similar sounds that I like more, and this hasn't been my go-to sound for when I want to listen to music for, like, over a decade. I can't really see myself checking out their new album or finding anything in it that makes me really reconsider my take on Godsmack (fine, but ultimately not anything I'll seek out on my own).

Very few bands can stick to the same formula their whole career (AC/DC, Disturbed, Tool, etc) without boring their fans at some point. I was so proud of Sully for his solo album, but his lyrics just don’t go anywhere fresh, and Godsmack’s music just feels cookie-cutter at best. Was Faceless the peak? 🤷‍♂️
