Rocker Reacts: "Pastime Paradise" (Stevie Wonder)

Музыка

I've played a few of his songs and always admired his style, but never really dove into his deeper catalogue until a subscriber requested this one, which got sampled in Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise."

When it begins to move, it starts descending from the Ab. Not a back and forth movement. He incorporated the chorus of We Shall Overcome with the choir.

The genius of Stevie is on top of being a masterful musician, he had the gift to make his often intellectual lyrics sound very simple even though they always had a deeper meaning behind them.

I remember reading how Coolio was angry at Al Yankovic because he said Al covered his song, making light of it. He covered Stevie's song, crazy!

This song had a gospel choir, folks from a Krishna temple... all sorts of people coming together. Songs In The Key Of Life was his biggest project up to that point- until The Secret Life Of Plants, in 1979.

I’ll definitely have to check it out! I know I’ve heard a couple of the songs, and I’ve heard that album title often enough to know it’s great, but now it’s time to find out firsthand.

Stevie Wonder won two consecutive Album of the Year awards for Innervisions in 1974 and Fulfillingness' First Finale in 1975. In 1976 Paul Simon won Album of the Year for Still Crazy After All These Years and in his acceptance speech he thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album that year. The next year Stevie won for Songs in the Key of Life.

Are you suggesting Stevie Wonder has mumble-mouth?
