Rock Of Ages 1975

This was my first ROA. I filmed with with my super 8 movie camera, no sound. And last year digitized and added some music and comments. Hope you enjoy.

I remember the power went out and Claudette Royale entertained the entire Fair ground with her amazing voice. I also remember the crowd as one rebuked the rain and made a circle in the clouds of clearness over us. It was goose bump stuff.

My 1st ROA. We had Word Over the World Ambassador for Christ training BEFORE ROA. We were so pumped up that ROA was almost anticlimactic. It rained a lot at ROA (no big top tent). Great memories, music and miracles happened that week. Our WOW Branches were sent to Newark & Patterson NJ. What homecoming ROA '76 was at TWI HQ.

Not only the teachings were awesome, but all the believers were like an extended family, a homecoming!!! Special thanks to the Bless Patrole who helped us set up our tent and helped us look for our son's keys...he was 2 and his plastic keys started his pink elephant.

I was taught to remember and honor our Father in the Word. I feel that the most positive impact on my young adult life was Dr. Wierwille and the very best years in my life were spent serving God and His ministry through The Way. When I took PFAL in 1979, and for years after, the teaching was pure and the ministry blessed! When it got bad, it got very bad and very dark. But God's light lives in the heart of the believer! God bless Dr. Wierwille and the life he lived.

I agree with you Wayne. I have far more meaningful and treasured memories than the bad that happened. It's sad that chaff was clearly manifested by some of our leaders. It's also sad to hear and read about the bitterness and unforgiving attitudes still haunting our sisters and brothers-in-Christ. This is chaff that can truly harden ones heart. We who have the spirit of grace are so much better than this. As was said many times, "Remember what we have been forgiven for." Even the Christ in you said, "Let him who is without..." It has been and will always be such a high honor to give our Upmost for His Highest. God Bless Wayne!

I was in the Army in San Antonio that summer. I met the WOW's in my apartment complex on Friday and left for the Rock on Sunday night. It had been a total miracle that I could go because of all the Army regulations. I got permission for my leave the nextday on Saturday. I heard manifestations for the first time on Austin Hwy about a half mile from my apartment. was driving my car so I would have a means of escape if I wanted out. There were three cars including my 1974 Ford Maverick with barely 8,000 miles on it. So when Jim and I got back in my car and began to pull out on to Austin Hiway, I was looking over my left shoulder and I said, "Jim?" and he answered, "Yea." As I let off the brake and got on the road I said, "What the hell was that?" That began the next 12 hours of him answering pretty much every question I had about God and the Bible. Throughout the night, I'd ask a question and turn on the inside light so he could find the verse in the Bible and read it to me line by line. By the time we got to Kansas City, I was bouncing off the walls. We spent the night at a home one of his WOW sisters, Julie, who grew up there and the next day we started off again down I-70. Jim needed a break after 12 hours of my questions and another lady rode with me and we talked about everything Jim had shared with me. I was amazed that her answers were the same as his. We arrived at the Rock at the grounds and as we went to tent city, everyone going back to the parking lot to bring in more of their belongings were saying, "God bless you!" At first, of course, I wouldn't even look up. I kept my head down to avoid eye contact. But then I began to understand they were simply expressing their desire for God to bless me. ME? The guy who had been the butt of jokes most of his life and was always on the edge of serious trouble? When the Rock ended, I took that Julie back home and was very different. The drive back down 35 is another great story. But I'll spare you. We all have stories with a lot of details. Needless to say, that week changed my life. I had made a commitment to God I would stand on His Word the rest of my life and even when I tripped up I'd get back up and go again. Here is now 43 years later and I'm still reading the Bible and teaching what I know to be true from the class. Mainly, I simply teach people the keys or rules to how the Bible interprets itself. In doing this, I cover a lot of material. I'm not with the ministry anymore. I left in 2000 when I could clearly see that it was not the same ministry I became involved with 25 years earlier. I'm doing fine. I look back at the years I had with thanksgiving because the greatest thing I learned was recognizing and standing for the integrity of God's Word. Every subject falls under that covering. Fellowship, sonship, manifestations, body, soul, spirit, and our, of course, our hope. Thanks for posting the video. God bless ya!

I saw lots of miracles on that trip. I had to be back in San Antonio that Sunday night. I must have driven 30 miles on empty. I made it to my apartment at 2 in the morning. A few weeks later on a level road at Ft Sam, I was taking a co-worker to lunch. The needle showed I was just above empty. And I ran out of gas. It was embarrassing. A few weeks later. AJ Beretta called and invited me to twig. I never looked back. I had a little talk with God at the Rock and told Him I would stand for the rest of my life. I admitted I would probably fall down, but I would be faithful to get back in the saddle. That was 43 years ago this August. I'm still here and so is God. We are good with one another. I witness and He backs up His Word.

Michael, Wow!!!! Thank you so much for posting this video. It made me cry...the beginnings of God molding me as His child. Seeing all the wonderful Houston believers and WOWs was such a refreshing of the soul--what a great chapter of life we lived together. Good memories of a spiritual awakening, birth, and new life in Christ. In spite of how things went awry, this ministry was truly a vehicle blessed of God for so many years, and I am so thankful to Him for making it happen. God bless you, Michael Scherling, and every precious believer who views this video. How sweet a life it is to walk with God and His family. We are not of this world. I look forward to eternity in His presence--with Jesus and all the saints of all time. Love you all! Teresa (Wilson) Ladieu Former Houston WOW 1

Because I went to your fellowship in St. Louis and took the class in July 1976 at Washington University. You guys were my first fellowship and led me to a greater knowledge of God and the Bible and were an answer to prayer. Thanks for giving a year of your life that effected the rest of my life. God Bless. I can't give my last name because my wife wants to stay "incognito" on KZread.

Me and mother were part of The Way back in 1982 - 1984. I actually had a very good experience in the ministry. Went to Rock of Ages three times and had great times there meeting all types of people from around the world. Met a real sweetheart girlfriend in the ministry when I was 17, that I lost. Went WOW in 1984 and was sent to Waco, Texas. Ha. What a place to be! Those times are burned into my memory forever. I can never forget them. Being a musician, I took the path of rock music and pursued that career. I have nothing bad to say about the ministry. I still keep God in my heart and keep the personal relationship. That is the most important thing. What would really be cool is to see those people again. A lot of time has passed. - Brian Luper (Va. Beach)

I was in the Army and had met a WOW the weekend before the ROA. I ended up going in a caravan with his WOW Family and a few other believers. I hadn't had the class so I took my car in case things got too weird and I wanted to leave early. We left on Sunday night around midnight. We stopped and filled our tanks down the road from our apartments. That was my first time hearing manifestations. We got back into our cars and Jim was riding shotgun. As we got on the road, I asked Jim, "What the hell was that." That was all it took to start the conversation that lasted from San Antonio to Kansas City. With great patience and love he proceeded to answer every question I had ever had about God and the Bible. We would drive a few miles and I would ask another question. He would grab his Bible and I’d turn on the dome light while he read the answer line by line. He made nothing up. If he didn’t know, he would say he didn’t know. By the time we spent the night in KC, I was bouncing off the walls. Then we got to the ROA and it was amazing to see so much of the Word living in people. People were walking in love and free to express their joy in God’s grace. It was absolutely overwhelming. On the last day of the Rock, I realized that I was going back into the world and I knew I wasn’t strong enough to live like this until the next Rock. I made a commitment to God that I would do this thing the rest of my life. Even when I fell, I would get back on track to try again. That was 47 years ago. It’s been a wild ride seeing God work in my life and the lives of other believers. I’ve seen things even Hollywood couldn’t dream up. My thankfulness runs deep and the peace I have is astonishing. And I’m still in touch with Jim.

A lot of fantastic music came out of The Way. I've been gradually collecting a lot of it myself. Initially I digitized my old cassette tapes, but they didn't sound too good after all the years of use. Then I started writing to people and trying to buy CDs, or rip what I could from the audio tracks of various things posted on KZread. You can find most of the singers and musicians on Facebook, or by intense Google searching. In most cases their music isn't really being sold anywhere, but the artist will sell it privately, or in some cases, give it away for free.

Hello everyone, I was a WOW Ambassador 1973 Idaho Falls Idaho, 1974 Fargo N Dakota 1975 Jamestown N Dakota. I was 16-19 almost 20. Some of the best experiences of my life. I'm 68 now and still SIT much and share the word. Iv seen several people speak about TWI with ill intentions and disrespect. I was doing other things during the time when VPW passed and CM became president and heard some things but during my 6 years involvement with TWI it was a tremendous blessing to my life. I never saw the things pointed out by some as cult like. In fact I hold great admiration and positive memories and this is how iv chosen to remember TWI. My memories of twig fellowship and rye NY and the Long Beach fellowship groups and taking PFAL inspired me greatly and God's love was very obvious and intentional amoung us. Anyways, blessings and Love to all Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Anyone know if that’s Craig teaching between 4:47-5:26 ? The hand gestures, posture and facial structure, though limited resolution, appear similar to his, yet I think I’m detecting glasses worn by this thin young man, which I don’t recall ever seeing him having worn. The Way College portion with Craig, at the end of the video, appears to be closer to 1977 or later.

It's sickening to see everybody kissing like that. I think that was for the most part all the way out or nearly so, sometime in the early 80's. Sometimes somebody would quote that one verse about greeting each other with a holy kiss, but I doubt if it was done like that in the 1st century. Blame it on the early 70's culture, I guess. We should have known better, I think. Some families people grew up in were the kissing kind. Mine wasn't.
