Rishi Sunak Falls Apart Over Post Brexit Immigration Question!
I don't believe Rishi Sunak backed leaving the EU based on the idea of bringing down immigration. While keeping foreigners out was a principal motiviation for many voters, people like the current Prime Minister were likely more concerned with EU laws impacting their ability to take risks. When asked by Beth Rigby of Sky News during the debate, he fall apart on the immigration aspect of Brexit.

So before Brexit the refrain was "immigration was too high". Now, years later, the refrain is "immigration is too high". So that worked well then.

How many billions have been lost on tax evasion?
Jeez! Small boat numbers so far this year are the highest ever!!! Actual legal immigration numbers for the last two years were 1.2 million! Astronomical compared to pre-2016 numbers.
My god, Sunak has been in the centre of government since 2017 as chanceller and PM. Suggesting that he has only been i power for 1 1/2 years and therefore was not his responsibility is treating us all with contempt.

*Tory negligence. 'Failure' implies they tried in the first place. It was all a front; they pretended they were running a country, when really they were just all getting themselves and their rich mates richer. It worked. This guy was a friggin' hedge-fund manager who was responsible, in part, for the global financial crisis. His 'punishment' was to become a world leader. W. T. F ???

He relies on his file of answers at PMQ and he knows the questions. He was found out as there was as no way to cheat here, if only he had actual cares about the job and his responsibilities and done his homework he would have known the data on immigration then he wouldn’t have looked so stupid. However, if he did go onto explain he would have to justify why the govt let immigration continue to rise. And that is our aging economy needs young migrants.
Exactly, he's just interested in money and removing any barriers to make even more for him and his mates. He saw opportunities that Brexit might bring to make more money.
Well done Beth beutifully done😊🎉❤

Finally the media are calling it out,and I do mean finaly,
Johnson Truss and Sunak you have ruined the prospects of our youth.
The missing question was "which government policies made immigration higher after Brexit?"
In his effing mind, while the NHS, social services, industry, hospitality and farming struggle, he puts his ideology as more important than pragmatism and what British people actually need. What a lovely story!
"people like the current Prime Minister were likely more concerned with EU laws impacting their ability to take risks" The most probable reason is that to be seen supporting Brexit was good for an MP's career in the Tory party. That's why Johnson and Gove supported Brexit. They didn't even want to win the referendum, they just wanted to be seen as having tried and failed to win the referendum in order to boost their kudos with party members in advance of a leadership contest.
How the immigration argument even held up for Brexit is beyond belief considering the amount of non EU migrants.

That was always under our control, and always higher than FOM.
EU migration was about freedom and reciprocity, immigrants with visa have a much more difficult life here in many respects. That's what they want
Sunak has had direct involvement in the three biggest events contributing to the largest transfer of wealth in this countries history. The credit crunch, Brexit and the pandemic.
PM "I apologise untreservedly" ... You made endless excuses, before and after apologising. Those dear chum, would be reservations!
What’s annoying is some people say the country doesn’t haven’t enough resources to accommodate immigrants, but it’s the reduction in resources that’s the problem, not the immigration.

@@shamusson It’s been proved that immigrants pay in to the economy and are a net benefit. Part of the problem with the economy is the lack of people of working age in this country and the economic situation has been made worse by losing that immigrant workforce post Brexit. Hence why the Tory government has been desperately issuing record numbers of visas. What the real underlying issue is the uk job market has had workers rights and pay eroded by successive governments, so many people with jobs can no longer afford to live, let alone afford houses and enjoy a comfortable retirement. And a collapsing employment economy means less revenue from taxation. Tory ideology was never going to work. They’ve known that for a long time and have just been trying to accumulate as much personal wealth as quickly as possible.

To put that in context, this is more than the population of Northern Ireland, two thirds of the population of Wales or almost one third of the population of Scotland.
