We are European. We are geographically located in Europe. To leave a Union that gives us free access to trade, goods, services, data, science, new business, capital, etc with our closest neighbours is madness. Likewise, removing our freedom to live, study, work, unlimited travel and retire as European Citizens, in the continent were we live, is equally madness. Being a Third National inside Europe will impact generations to come. Brexit is done - but the consequences it has caused needs addressing rather than ignoring it. Leaving one Union where we had a say on Europe's future and then joining another Union at the other side of the world, where we have no seat - was not the answer.

The UK did not join another Union it joined a loose trade pact between Pacific nations with vastly different cultures and priorities, the CPTPP will likely fizzle out over time as the developing members pursue their own agendas. German and UK GDP inputs are significantly different. UK GDP is service oriented with only 14% (pre losing Tata Steel) from manufacturing. German GDP is 47% from manufacturing. Therefore the world and internal events that effect their GDP growth are significantly different. It is also the reason why currently the German GDP is having a tougher time that the UK, just! Also worth noting is that the German annual GDP is about 1 Trillion Euros greater than the UK which equates to about 33%. The UK annual borrowing to GDP ratio is 99% whereas the German annual borrowing to GDP ratio is 47%. Here in Germany it is not all roses, but on any metric Tice could choose to compare we are doing significantly better than the UK. The only Brexit pain for us as a Family living in Germany is having to pay import duty on the Christmas and birthday presents my children receive from UK relatives, and the additional paperwork (red tape) needed to send parcels to the UK.

Even if there is a visa scheme for agricultural workers, it would be much easier for someone from Romania to go and pick fruit in another EU country than to go though the hassle of applying for a visa to Britain. The replacements from Afghanistan are far less likely to go back at the end of the season, and that's before you even consider the fact that the West has very recently had a long and horrific war with Afghanistan. Many Afghans probably hate Westerners. Is it wise to invite large numbers of them to come to the West?

The UK itself would be a vastly different and more cohesive place, trade with the UK's European neighbours would be totally frictionless and much improved, relationships with the UK's EU friends would be stable and fruitful, immigration while remaining an issue would be very controlled and furthermore because of total and strong European unity the Ukraine war would likely not have happened. To answer your question, NO there would be little media attention about making the right choice because it would be obvious that the right choice was made.

If the UK remained in the EU it would have been able to control immigration to an acceptable level as it is the UK is now like a fart in a gale looking for possible solutions. Ukraine War. Putin looks at Europe and sees the divisions that things like brexit imposed on the continent and these divisions emboldened him. Ukraine will be in the EU within a decade. Only full membership, no exceptions, no exemptions, no opt-outs. Only solidarity and cooperation, which has NOT been the case during your 47y long membership. The EU is not a colony for the English to exploit !

Its a option. Just not a easy or quick one, but then no one is pretending it is. Still the EU has practice with countries joining so its not like there its a impossible challenge

@@trickslies844 Wrong! That option doesn't exist. By treaty the Single Market is reserved for EU and EFTA member states, and EFTA has preemptively vetoed UK accession. Full EU membership remains the only route for he UK if wants complete access and participation in the Single Market.

Even Switzerland's access to the single market isn't based on its EFTA membership as it rejected EEA membership. Instead it used a number of bilateral agreements. I mean personally i think full membership is the more sensible choice but cant win them all.

There are about 6 countries in the EU in recession including Germany, are they in recession because they stayed in ? if not why not ?

Is that the same Germany that, despite the recession, recently became the 3rd largest economy after the US and China? When the UK was 5th, is now 6th and slowly sliding to 7th.

UK had to borrow $3.9 billion from the IMF, this was then the largest loan ever to have been requested from the IMF. 1975 GDP per capita, USD: Denmark 7,999 Netherlands 7,335 Belgium 6,701 France 6,690 Germany 6,236 UK 4,300. I guess you're right: no great change in 54 years.

germany is a country that lives from its exports. they would be nuts to leave the eu...yes, they are in recession but they would be 1000times worse off outside the eu. and the germans, french, italian, alle eu citizens know very well that leaving the block would leave them poorer...just like the uk

The EU is strangling Europe to death, The EU has grown less than 10% since 2008 whilst China has grown 350%, Europe is the only part of the world that isn't growing and at that rate it will be poorer than Africa in 50 years time.

I, as a European, don't understand these pointless debates; everyone has their reasons, and they all seem valid. The United Kingdom has freely chosen to leave the European Union after a long campaign, and the people have had plenty of time to think about it and have made their choice; the result is that you complained before and you complain after, so stop whining and face the challenges you freely chose! Finally, you won't blame Brussels for everything that doesn't work in your country. You chose the enemy, the European Union, as a scapegoat for everything, and now finally you don't have it anymore, so enough complaints, get to work, work hard, and know that you can't go back!!!
