Is Rishi Sunak about to lose his safe seat? | Northallerton report

"If we lose Richmond and Northallerton, we hold nothing."
Rishi Sunak's seat has been predicted by some polling to change hands to Labour in the general election, which would place the PM in a brand new club - sitting Prime Ministers that lost their seat at an election.
We went to the constituency to speak to the political operators there, along with the residents, to find out how worried Rishi Sunak should be.

Tom Jones came dangerously close to being self aware there. The Tories are going to lose because they've systematically dismantled the public services and infrastructure of the country, while at the same time presiding over the transfer of more wealth than ever before into the hands of the richest, and people have finally reached a breaking point. Brexit just accelerated the process.

This was always going to be the outcome… The biggest irony of all is that the Conservatives have been claiming to be the biggest political party champions for and voice of the UK armed forces…. However, in the context of actual armed services policy, in government, the very opposite has been the case. In the past 14 years in government, the Conservatives have decimated and undermined the UK armed forces. They have gutted resources through deep austerity cuts. They have introduced highly toxic, punitive disability and sickness benefits assessments reforms that are inflicting untold harm upon very many war veterans, seriously injured in service. Denying many their benefits claims and driving them further into poverty. Back in the fag end of the Major Conservative government, the party sold off almost the entire armed services residential estate at a ridiculously undervalued price to a private sector company. Its little wonder that so many armed services voters are abandoning their once steadfast support for the Conservatives, and are now voting or considering voting Labour. Rushmoor council - that contains the home town of the British Army - Aldershot - being a Labour gain in this year’s local elections is proof enough of this seismic shift in the voting behaviour of armed forces voters.

I think that’s what he is getting at. Arguably, he hasn’t had enough time to prove his personal worth but the Tories have shown they’re incapable and what time Rishi has had he’s managed to make them look even worse. My belief is that if he had another 5 years we’d have a much more accurate views of his ideas, skills and abilities. I also believe we’d think even less of him and the country would be even worse

First question the interviewer asks the councilor, "What matters to people in this constituency". He then just goes on to list previous high profile MPs who were in the seat. Clearly shows the total apathy Tories have even for their so called "stronghold" constituents. Also the older chap who said Sunak did well as Chancellor during Covid must have some amnesia because the guy pushed through Eat out to Help Out which later showed to have greatly increased the spread of COVID and had zero backing from the governments medical advisors. As well as handing his mateys billions of pounds in contracts to secure PPE, of which many delivered not even a single piece.
