Ribs & Pulled Pork on the Char-Griller AKORN Auto-Kamado

Ойын-сауық

Today I made some St. Louis ribs along with a petite pork shoulder on the new Char-Griller Akorn Auto Kamado. I used the extra shelf to smoke the pork shoulder which came in handy!

Awesome to see some content on the auto! I just ordered mine today. Looks like every time I seen the temp on the auto it showed spot on temp.

Thanks for watching Casey! Yeah, you're going to love it - it really does stick to the temp. I did an assembly video also - hopefully that'll be handy.

The Auto-Kamado did a terrific job on that pork. I bet it was nice to walk away from it and not have to babysit that cooker! Cheers bro!!!!

Rob, now what I’d like to know is if a classic KJ SloRoller will fit in the Auto Kamado so I can get the best of set and forget it with the best of cyclonic air circulation. Hmmm

Looks like you're happy with your new grill, seems it cooks just fine. The ribs and the pulled pork look delicious. 😋 You know, you might want to leave the mic off and do the voice over again, I thought it was entertaining 😅

Any idea how long this will cook low and slow? Did you have much charcoal left after this cook? Can you snuff out fire after cook? Looking forward to next cook.

  • @RobsBackyardBBQ

Hey Jim, thanks for watching! These Akorns (and most thick walled kamados) use very little charcoal. You can easily get 10-12 hours with a good amount in the cooker. To snuff it out, just close all the vents and it should take a couple hours until it's safe to put a cover on it.

Hi, Akorn cooker in Australia here and i just have a few questions about this new model.... 1. It looks like there is more side space / side gap with the new heat deflector (smoking stone), do you think Char Griller should of made it wider? 2. Do you think the old ceramic heat deflector / smoking stone will still sit on the same 3 taps in the new model's firebox? 3. Does an aluminum tray fit on the new style heat deflector / smoking stone? It sort of looks like its concave and not completely flat like the old one? Cant wait for these to hit Australia.

Hey Fenton, thanks for watching! 1. I noticed that but have not asked them about it yet. 2. Yep, thinking that's the same internal shell as the regular akorn I imagine. This one comes with the heat deflector, however. 3. I don't think so - the deflecter does concave 'up' leaving not much space under the grill itself. In a pinch, i bet you could use the regular 'smokin stone' but not sure if that'd affect the heat sensor's accuracy.

@@RobsBackyardBBQ thanks for the reply mate, was a very informative video. 3. Surely the heat sensor sits above the whatever stone you have in there? Might take a little while longer to get to temp because ones metal and ones stone but im sure it wont be a problem. I will use the proper old smoking stone for low and slow (less side gap better heat retention) and use the new metal one for indirect hot and fast. Cheers mate.
