    Speed Queen machines are built like tanks ... and are workhorses. I wish I'd just spent the money a long time ago. Even if you don't want a front loader, their TC5 top loader is still one that will last for decades. Not too much machine in either case imo. @@Edsresearch

    @@jteamaz Thank you for responding. Good to hear. So much controversy with the TR series. I think the front load style will be a little gentler on my clothes? Assuming you have had no issues, and obviously the wash is of good quality. The front load matching dryer seems over kill for the price at the moment. They want $2,000 for it! So possibly looking at one of their more basic dryers. Unless you think the matching dryer is worth it.

    Yes, the TR series didn't go over so well ... stick with the old favorite the TC5. I also gave up and went with the matching dryer. Again, built so well and they just don't break down with proper maintenance and care. They're built in the midwest, I grew up with them ... @@edwina3358

    You did a fantastic review Speed Queen should have your commission check in the mail ASAP. I agree with everything you said when you compared the LG washer cleaning performance to this keep in mind, that even the max setting on the heavy duty cycle is shorter than the normal cycle on the LG (which I to owned at one time). There is no sensing and adding a cup of water on so on with this washer which you pointed out. The commentary was great it really is a shame that the washer has been discontinued because your review would definitely push sales for them, keep up the great work!

    The main reason I believe they " discontinued" the machine was to change the design to put the door hinge on the opposite side like every other brand, so you can mount the pair more easily with standard house hold plumbing i.e. water access on the left in most homes. Before, in order to keep the washer door from being in the way when moving clothes from the washer to the dryer, you had to have the washer on the left and the dryer on the right.

  • @DocNo27

    @DocNo27

    This machine sucked. Saying it isn't the best performing is an understatement - it does NOT rinse well, which is pretty mind boggling considering how it spins. Warranty is crap if you only have one authorized service/sales reseller locally and they are unreliable hot garbage. If they don't have a good reseller nearby you are just SOL - was beyond frustrating for my parents. The decal on the controls on both the washer and dryer front panel had issues and it took over six months of getting the run around before the warranty repair work could get done. For the price of these units that is UTTERLY unacceptable. After two years of trying to coax something decent performance wise out if this machine my parents replace it with the LG front load washer and matching dryer and the performance was night and day. I didn't think there could be that big of a difference between washing machines, but there is! Easiest example - bath towels. They always were a bit "flat" with the Speed Queen. Also a little dingy with a funky smell no matter what you did. After my parents got the LG unit installed I took all the bath towels, including the "clean" ones from the cabinet and re-washed them in the new LG set. They came out of the washer/dryer ultra fluffy, super soft and ultra absorbent. No more dingy/funk to them either. It felt like someone slipped in and swapped the old towels out for completely different ones. Same physical location. Same water. Same detergent. Same laundry. Only thing that was changed was the equipment and LG utterly DESTROYED Speed Queen in how well it cleaned and rinsed the laundry by comparison. It wasn't even close. So yeah, screw Speed Queen. My parents donated their Speed Queen set to a local charity thrift store; they now wash donated items - perfect use. For home use? Hell no. LG beats the pants off performance wise, hands down. Indeed my 15 year old Duet HT is finally starting to show some issues and I have an LG set coming Friday to replace them. Gotta love sales at Costco. I'll CHEERFULLY replace the LG set four times vs. Speed Queen and still consider it a HUGE win. I don't care if the damn Speed Queen lasts a lifetime if it performs like crap. Laundry performance was hot garbage, especially for the price paid for it.

    Thank you for taking the time to produce your videos. They have been very helpful. In June 2011 I purchased a Speed Queen front loader, AFN50FSP111TW01. Recently this unit stopped achieving the high speed spin (this only occurs with a wet load - not a DRY TEST load. My first step is going to replace the imbalance switch being that it is the least expensive part. if that does not fix the issue then I am leaning towards replacing the control board located on the top rear of the unit. Very expensive - approximately 350.00. Being that the unit actually is able to achieve the high speed spin (during a DRY TEST load only), do you think the problem could lie elsewhere - perhaps the shock absorbers. The unit is only 8 years old. I'm not ready to give up on it but would rather not waste a bunch of money in trying to trouble shoot the issue. I live in Pittsburgh. Surprisingly enough there doesn't seem to be anyone locally interested in servicing my washer. If I lived closer, I would just bring it to you. Please help. Thank you, JP

    Wondered about this on the Speed Queens too. Seems like it's usually neither aluminum nor stainless, but rather a die cast zinc alloy, and the corrosion is accelerated by the alkaline wash solution. You'd think they could try to encapsulate the part in a plastic or porcelain coating to protect it, as you see on some mixer paddles. I realize casting a piece that size out of stainless would be costly, and you need something substantial enough to support the back of a thin sheet metal drum, but the zinc seems like a poor fit for the application.

    Probably an LG front loader. WM4000 or WM5500. They probably clean better since they have much longer run times, but nowhere near as durable long term. You'll probably buy 4 LG's or 8 Samsung's before the life cycle of a speed queen is over.

    So, since this model is discontinued, what front load washer do you suggest for people who just want a machine that I can throw the clothes in, start it up, and come back when they are clean for the next 20 years with no fuss? Especially people whose clothes actually get dirty? We're farmers, so our clothes see grease, grass, mud, and worse. Speed Queen was the brand everyone told me was the one to get, and then I find out they don't make a front loader anymore right about the time I decide to upgrade my late 80's model whirlpool toploader...it still cleans up the filthiest of jeans, but I want to reclaim some of the space it + the dryer takes up in my microscopic bathroom since we're remodeling. I have a similar machine, but an older model, LFNE5BSP113TW01. We bought it a couple of months ago, used, for $50. It was pretty gross, but I cleaned it up and it seemed to be working fine. However, it doesn't seem to rinse soap well. I can run a load over and over and still see quite a bit of soap, even though I'm only adding a tablespoon or two of HE soap. Have you ever had this complaint on Speed Queen front load machines? The drain pump seems to be loud, but I cleaned out the trap, and I know it's functioning and draining properly. Also, mine doesn't seem to have that second rubber ring on the drum. Maybe that had been removed at some point. After watching your videos about the new top load machines I feel like selling this and buying the top load. What would you recommend? +Lorain Furniture and Appliance

    Good luck. After two years of fighting/experimenting with all kinds of hair brained suggestions from all over the Internet (and even some from Speed Queen) my parents gave up and replaced their SQ set with LG. The difference was night and day and immediate. At least you are only out $50, they bought theirs new :p If you want a machine who's greatest feature is apparently long life and little else, you have quite the gem there. If you want something capable of actually removing soap from your laundry pick just about anything but a speed queen. BTW - the LG WM3900 models (and maybe the cheaper ones too; not positive) spray clean rinse water WHILE they are spinning as part of the rinse/spin cycle. Something that I remember top loaders doing as a kid but for some reason not many modern washers seem to do. It's amazingly effective at rinsing out your laundry and probably why the LG set beats the snot out of SQ in actual cleaning of laundry.

    @@DocNo27 The spray rinse is so important! I don't know why they don't have that feature. I've had a year to work things out with this machine, and I've realized that adding an additional two gallons of water to the initial wash cycle (hauling a bucket of water from the bathroom) seems to take care of the problem. Sometimes I'll also run an extra rinse cycle and add the extra two gallons. I also switched from liquid detergent to powdered Tide, which seems to rinse better. Sheets, towels, and blankets are still tricky to rinse well, but I've decided that I'll just keep doing this until I finally break down and buy a Speed Queen top load washer. The washer does a great job cleaning the clothes, I just wish it would rinse properly.

    I’ve used the horizon model at an apartment complex and now have the 2019 stacked set. Even though they say it has a larger capacity than the horizon, but it’s hard to tell. What I liked about the horizon series was that baffles were stainless steel (not plastic, as on the current model...not sure why the change. SQ says the new baffles are patented, not sure what’s so revolutionary about them though). I also liked the water spray fill/distribution and the spray rinse on low speed spin right after the wash cycle drains. I didn’t like, nor understood the purpose of the pulse spin on the horizon series. What I like about this model: more cycle selection and customization, up to 5 rinses, and I think it is far better balanced. The downside is that it fills from the outer drain tub vs directly spraying the clothes (but this might be better for detergent/bleach distribution/dilution) and no spray rinse. So far, it’s been a great machine and has really good capacity. (The manual says it can handle 21lbs of laundry).

    2:32 for a brand focused on reliability that's a very sub par pcb. 5:21 plastic lifters? LG has stainless steal ones, which I would think stainless steel would last longer. 4:45 get rid of the inside door seal! ASKO actually has a really good design aspect being that it has no inside gasket/seal. The door is directly on the outer drum. Only a small outer seal between outer drum and the cabinet/chassis. Also no direct drive :( Honestly I am so annoyed by modern appliances I want to start my own brand, haha! One that actually is innovative and makes advanced, beautiful products that actually last 15-20+ years with no maintenance! Also the current Speed Queen front loaders that are available in Australia (AFNE9B, AFNE9BSS) only do a 1200rpm spin!

    It’s not uncommon for a Speed Queen washer to last 20+ years. The useful life of an LG is 5-10 years. Look up the difference between RPM and RCF. RCF is the important metric for spin performance, this is why Speed Queen advertises its 440 g-force spin.

    I'm on my second Whirlpool; purchased #1 in 1999 >$1200; #2 in 2016 >$850... do the arithmetic... Speed Queen is a bargain, it's repairable (my first Whirlpool was not, as the main bearing went, and they said it would cost more than a new machine to repair it.).

  • @a89proof

    @a89proof

    4 жыл бұрын

    The second one likely won't be repairable either, as the way most are assembled means there is no service access to the bearings, seals, spindle, or drive spider that the inner drum are supported by. Service replacement requires changing out the drum and tub as an assembly, which is costly in both freight and labor. Out of warranty, and adding the cost of the part itself, it quickly becomes cost prohibitive. There have been, and still are, some models which have tubs that can be split to service bearings and spiders, but you'd have to factor the cost of parts (drum spindle w/ spider, bearings spacers and seals, tub seal) and labor to know if that's beneficial or not.

I called speed queen direct and they told me that the control board that increases the speed during the final spin cycle must be failing and they gave me the part # of the board and told me to tell my repair man to order this board as a replacement!!! There are times that the machines will go off balance to the point where it starts bouncing around and slamming into my dryer without shutting down and I have to pause it myself manually, and then there are lots of times where the machine will start spinning perfectly straight but never pick up speed!!! Speed Queen told me that it should not react that way and that there is definitely something wrong with the board and that it should be replaced because it should react to a out of balanced load and shut down automatically and that the speed should increase to 1200 RPM's when high spin is selected which it don't... Thank God that this is covered by the warranty because it is a $500 board!!! Will be fixed on Friday so I hope this will put these problems to rest??? Have a good one all!!!
