The TIVO monthly charge is for the TV guide that allows you to see what the upcoming shows are. Lifetime versions are available for an additional fee. I have 2 Tivo's and a Tivo mini, they all work great, no monthly fees for life. (I bought the lifetime versions). I cut the cord a few years ago, saving $150/month.

Thanks for the video👍 Records only from OTA no doubt. Also TiVo service subscription is required.😕 Options include a monthly service plan at $6.99/mo. with a 1-year commitment, an Annual service plan at $69.99/year, or an All-In service plan for $249.99.

Thank you for the interesting video. I am hoping you can answer a situational question for me. First I love and owned several older Tivo devices. Our community HOA has a new contract with Comcast who has implemented a new service set-up which has eliminated the cable card. The streaming service has only one stream at 720p which seems backwards to me. My question is do you know how or if I there is a TIVo solution to still get LIVE cable news ( I like CNBC and CNN ) AND record one while watching the other AND get HDTV? We can not cut the cord per se as it is part of our community, but we also don't have choice of cable company. Thank you!

Can you stream the OTA channels outside your WiFi on the TiVo iPad app? I also saw them demoing the tvOS appletv app and the FireTV app on someone’s KZread channel, I think they said 3rd quarter 2019 it’ll be available on the stores.

Hopefully you can give me a little advice. I have the TiVo Roamio OTA with lifetime subscription and I really like it. TiVo has sent me a special offer to trade mine in on a new Bolt OTA and with my trade-in I get $200 off the all-in price which would bring my total cost to $299 instead of $499. Other than the 4K streaming ability is there anything better about the Bolt OTA that would make it worth trading up? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

So, If I wanted to watch something on another TV, with my Shield TV? Similar to what you can do with a HD HomeRun device. Does it have a Pluto internet TV app? Is it compatible with NAS devices like Qnap for storage? Is the hard drive replaceable in the Tivo Bolt box. Is it compatible with SSD's?

The only thing I'm missing is remote viewing, which is why I preordered the Fire TV Recast (4 tuner) that will let you watch and record over-the-air TV at home or on-the-go with out the monthly fees.... I don't understand buying hardware that incurs a monthly fee for use... reminds me of cable.

Unfortunately he didn't talk about what I feel are some of the biggest features on Tivo in this video. He didn't mention the one-touch voice search which looks for your search across all available apps that you've subscribe to plus live TV. He didn't show the one button commercial skip that is actually marked by humans so it's a hundred percent accurate. He didn't show the smart home Integrations with IFTTT and Alexa which let you control Tivo automatically like automatically skipped commercials or voice commands with Alexa. He also missed how Tivo when you select season pass brings in the episodes from all the streaming services that you subscribe to not just over-the-air all into one cohesive show menu in your my shows so you don't have to worry where the episodes you are watching come from. Tivo just takes you to it wherever it has to all without you doing anything. Tivo is so much more than a pretty guide and these are just some of the many things that make Tivo way better than any other Ota option imo. I have tried so many and then I got my Tivo about a year ago. Hands down 100% worth every penny and unless you have actually used it you won't understand.

Thank you for the great info. Just to be clear, we will need to buy our own TV antenna right? I don’t have a smart TV but do have the Roku device. I have subs to Peacock, HBO, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Sling. But I really want to record episodes of “Jeopardy!” ( I know I’m a nerd). The only conceivable way I can watch episodes is to record them from basic cable TV. I just don’t want to buy an extra piece of equipment I don’t need. Why is Sony, or Vicom or whomever, so stingy with Le Jeopardy? 😖😖

@@simp28806 Tivo does about 10x more than what he showed here. This is about the worst demo review of hardware I have ever seen. He hit on like 3 out of 15 of the top big features TiVo gives you with this setup. I talk about some of them above but writing about them is not the same as showing them off. I have 2 Shields and I will tell you now as far as a dvr option compared to Tivo it's the Shield is not even a 1 to the Tivo 100. These are two different beasts all together and is why I own both. Tivo does dvr delivery like no other and if it was actually reviewed and showed off all that he could really do and the power behind it you would see what I was talking about. People continue to not get it till they see it for themselves or actually see a real review. This wasn't much more than taking it out of the box and plugging it in. He missed nearly all of the big features that Tivo has that no one else does.

I have bought two NEW Tivo Bolt OTA's this week at 2 different Best Buy stores and both locked up on me. This is part of the message I received on BOTH Tivo's. "Please report this problem. You have encountered and unexpected error, and the UI can not continue. Please report this issue as part of your participation in our beta program". It goes on with some technical stuff. I was trying to set both Tivos up for the first time. I've never owned a Tivo and never participated in any beta program. I could not set up and account because Tivo is asking for both the unit Serial # which is on the bottom of the Tivo and they want Tivo MAP (Media Access Key) # which you have to retrieve from the main menu. Can't access main menu if Tivo locks up on you which it did twice. I think maybe either Tivo or Best Buy, of both, are knowingly selling faulty Tivos.

First off, thanks for your reviews, I am a subscriber and watch MOST of your videos. Now, I will tell you about MY thoughts on this device. First, it is NOT for me, too expensive and TOO limited. But, that is not what I am going to discuss here. I am going to tell you about my younger brother (68 years old), that literally HATES technology. Anyway, he wants desperately to get away from his $200 plus cable bill, so he is considering cutting the cord and going with an Antenna. Unfortunately, he lives over a thousand miles away from me, so I can not assist in any way at all. He watches very little TV, mostly news channels, his wife on the other hand likes some of the **cable** channels, but he says she will adapt (he wears the pants), since the plan is to cut back on their discretionary spending. He has no idea what a DVR is, but says his wife does record some shows, so this device would work for him. The simpler, the better for him, all he want to do is pick up the remote, push a button and watch TV. He doesn't know anything about streaming, except Netflix on the TV and KZread on his wife's computer. This DVR would be great for his purpose, EXCEPT for the continuing cost of the guide data. He would never go for that. And bumping the cost of the device way over the top, for life time guide data, is definitely out of the question for him. So, for him, and lots of others like him, it still does NOT hit the sweet mark for him. Not sure what other stand alone inexpensive devices he can use for a basic DVR with FREE guide data.

Ronnie Baily I'm not sure how you or your brother can complain about the $250 lifetime service fee when your brother is currently paying $200 plus per month? What's the break even point for a Tivo plus the lifetime fee ($500). Lets say his current cable TV cost is $125 of that $200/mo. he pays now. In 4 months he breaks even, then saves $125 every month after that.

yep it's not wise to buy any of this junk till OTA 3.0 comes out, but if you must a $50 RCA 1080p OTA DVR converter box, and a spare HDD thrown into a USB 3.0 external drive sled is a better deal.

I've been in the process of cord cutting, as in deciding what I need and selecting a service. I'm still connected to cable but it gets less and less use. My point here is the TiVo name has not been brought to my attention once in all the videos I've watched or articles I've read online about cutting the cord. Not once! I believe that says it all right there. They're done.....old company that's been bypassed.

Hahaha You can't find a better cord cutting option than this. As far as technical prowess and everything it does it blows the competition away.

Lack of familiarity with Tivo doesn't mean Tivo is an inferior device. I've used Tivo for a dozen years or more and would never revert to another company's DVR. That said, the lack of familiarity can mean you have to stand next to the "professional technician" and tell him how to connect your system up using Tivo. I've been there on several occasions.

I'm not a fan of this interference. It looks like it's gonna slow down over time. I prefer the older style interface where it barely needed any animations, and had the good TiVo sounds.

Any fee is stupid when you can get an RCA OTA DVR converter box for $50, and just attach your own USB 3.0 flash drive of 32GB or bigger, or your own USB 3.0 HDD/SSD. Far as the streaming box part no thanks I'm good with my ROKU devices that don't cost anything beyond the device cost unless you sub to something like Netflix, Hulu etc..

Unfortunately this review missed almost all the great features that Tivo offers that sets them apart. I left a comment above explaining just some of the many things he never talked about that make Tivo so much worth it over anything else you could possibly use. If you owned it then maybe you would get it. I do and nothing comes close to the power of what Tivo does and I own them all for the Shield to Roku to the FireTv. I would trade every one of them for my new Tivo in a heartbeat.
