    I purchased a TiVo Roamio and two TiVo Minis and saved $540 year because I did not have to rent 3 cable boxes at $15 a month. In two years the savings covered my up front costs of buying the TiVo Roamio two TiVo minis and the lifetime subscription. I purchased in October of 2014 and I am still using the same Roamio. 6 year savings is $3,240!

    Yes, the TIVO remote should be backlit like the XFinity. Except, the XFinity goes black too quickly and I had to keep shaking it in frustration to find the button I wanted to press. I almost threw it across the room many times before I "cut the cord" and now only have Comcast internet, which I love. My TIVO Bolt OTA is ordered and should be here this week. I live in Houston, TX and have no problem with accessing more OTA channels than I want, most of them in Spanish, however. Go figure.

    I currently use a Roku Ultra with PLEX, Amazon Prime and Netflix and an antenna for live, local TV (News). Thinking I could use this Tivo as a way to store plex's live TV shows, I got one off ebay. Because I don't have cable or a network card, when I ran a scan with Tivo, it lowered my 1080p TV 's resolution to 480i LOL. With my current setup, I'm afraid of activating a Tivo subscription since I may also have to go back to cable. Could a Tivo subscription work as OTA with my antenna and no network card?

    Hi Sean….OK, I’m confused. On the back of the Bolt you said there is one coax connector, which is the cable provider coax INPUT. How do you connect the output from the Bolt to a Mini Vox? Does your house have to be wired for Ethernet? I currently have Frontier FIOS and in the den have a large TV and large set top box (STB) and in two bedrooms have two small TVs and two STBs. In each of those three rooms I have a wall jack with two coax connectors. I’d like to replace all three STBs with a Bolt and two Mini Voxs. Since the Bolt does not have a coax OUT connector, is there a way to connect the output from the Bolt to the Mini Voxs using my existing (coax) house wiring? Is there an adapter that could connect the Bolt output to my den coax wall jack (and on to the bedrooms)? I think the Mini Voxs won’t be a problem. It looks like you simply just run a coax wire from your bedroom coax wall jack and connect to the coax connector on the back of the Mini but how do I connect the Bolt to the two Minis? P.S. I have a Frontier router but it’s in a different room and not in the den or bedrooms. Thanks, Steve

    The main Tivo Bolt has to have a wired ethernet connection to your home network. You can setup a MoCa coaxial connection too if you want instead of hard wired Ethernet to the minis, but it is not simple as screwing in a coaxial cable. You have to setup a Moca network. Usually requires filters on the inbound cable from your cable company. If you go to Tivo's website they have all the guides how to set it up using coaxial connections.

    Its just 3 steps. Plug into your network cable, plug into outlet, follow onscreen setup. It must connect to the same network as your Bolt. They are not wireless. However, Tivo has since released a wireless adapter you can buy to plug into it if you don't have ethernet cable wherever you are placing it. But that was not available when I made the video.

    Can you watch all your Xfinity channels on the TiVo mini vox well? Does the mini need to be hooked to a coaxial or will the mini act like a wireless cable box letting watch all my Xfinity channels?

  • @seanstraindepot

    @seanstraindepot

    4 жыл бұрын

    The mini’s act as satellites from the dvr, so yes you get everything that’s on main dvr, channels, recordings etc. the mini needs to be hooked up by Ethernet cable , or moca coaxial setup. But TiVo now has a wireless adapter you can get instead of those 2 types of connections. A strong wireless connection would be needed if you buy the wireless adapter. The mini itself is not wireless, so you need the additional adapter for wireless. My Orbi network satellites have Ethernet connections so that how I set up mine.

    My cable card went bad in my vox. Trying to remove it, for me, was near impossible. The card was installed by Comcast, I had no idea where or how he put it in. Your video showed me. However, now that green tab is stuck under the piece of metal it's supposed to go over. The vox is still acting up. Yes, i think the card was bad, but i think something is also wrong with this box. We've been faithful with tivo since '03. Pretty sure this is our last box.

    @@seanstraindepotOh, no, it was installed properly. TiVo makes the card impossible to remove by having it in the bottom and with the need to move the green tab to release the card. If was a simple push in the back or front as previous models, I wouldn't have bent anything or the green tab wouldn't have flipped under the metal piece it goes over. Have your vox above your shoulders, your wife's actually, have her pretend she's on the phone, the vox is plugged into everything, she's doing this alone. I disconnected the hdmi and power, however it was hanging by the cable chest high. I'm not an idiot..lol...when it comes to TiVos, however this box, with the card in the bottom, the latches spread farther apart then my fingers could reach, trying to do this while it was hanging. Perhaps I should have disconnected the whole thing and laid it down. I still don't think I could have slid the card out. Yesterday I had my husband try. He had difficulty. It's a bad design, plain and simple. I liked TiVo a lot better when it was actually owed by TiVo. 24/7 help CS. You don't get that now with whatever company bought them. This vox restarts constantly. That's not a card that did that. That's a faulty box, I've had enough boxes, going back to a SD def 2 box that required no card, only a cable connection.

    Oh yeah, I have an X1 box and I can easily see the delay on the Comcast box. The TiVO box looks much faster and the text doesn't do that annoying "pop in" like it does on Comcast as it wasn't loaded. Watching you scroll through, the text for the guide is already there, no delay for it to populate. Kinda pathetic Xfinity STILL hasn't upgraded their DVR box with something better (with larger HD). I already plan to save up to get a TiVO Bolt VOX. Being able to backup my recordings to an External HD and free up space will be nice, especially when I have a 2nd computer with a Plex Server on it, which could then be streamed extra recordings to my Smart TV in the Living Room. Besides, my X1 DVR is starting to have issues with it with channels not wanting to load and I'm afraid when I call in, they are going to say I have to replace the DVR, which would be all records would be lost (since Cloud DVR sucks and only saves a fraction of them).

    Does the Orbi allow you to see your satellites' connection strength? I've been using the Unifi access points with wireless uplinks wired to a tivo mini in another room. My uplink strength is 80% (300 mbs) and I have not had any connectivity issues with my mini. If your orbi's satellite's uplink connection is poor, expect tv signal issues.

  • @seanstraindepot

    I am not sure if having the main one on an orbi would give the best picture, but you could try it. There is a little lag on response sometimes with the orbi &mini. The main one should be hardwired directly in my opinion since the minis all use that one for the feed. Again Tivo itself will not give any support to any connection except hardwired direct.

    Thanks buddy, this is helpful as I'm supposed to receive my Bolt Vox and Mini Vox later today and now I have a better idea how the setup works. My home TV setup is much like yours -- my family has been using a plain Verizon FiOS STB for 7 years, but now we finished our basement and want to have a second TV capable of live TV, and I *hate* the STB racket so I did the lifetime Bolt Vox plan. I'll end up paying $5/mo to Verizon for the CableCARD versus paying them $24/mo for two STBs, and will also get DVR which the FiOS boxes didn't have unless i paid even more. It was $549 for the lifetime TiVO plan, which (at a savings of $19/mo versus two STBs from Verizon) will pay for itself in 29 months (or 2.4 years). I'm curious: I see you connected the coax cable to your Bolt Vox as well as an Ethernet cable. My FiOS STB uses coax only, so I have coax available to hook up to the Bolt Vox, and the FiOS router is MOCA 2.0, so do you think I need to connect ethernet to the Bolt Vox as well? I do have Ethernet available near the where the Bolt Vox will go as well as where the Mini Vox will go, just need to add a network switch in both those locations to allow me to connect multiple devices to the Ethernet wall jack. Also -- I've never had TiVo or a DVR before so I'm pretty excited -- the last time I had the ability to record live TV was as a kid in the 80s/90s with my parents' VCR. Ha!

  • @seanstraindepot

    @seanstraindepot

    5 жыл бұрын

    You will love it, its is a great system. As far as ethernet goes you either need that or need a MOCA network so the Mini can connect with the Bolt. Sounds like you have MOCA, and there are setup instructions in the box for that, I just am not sure how that works exactly. It says it requires certain filter on the coax line etc, Ethernet is just easier if available. The coax cable going into the Bolt is the Comcast cable feed, not using it for MOCA. The ethernet is for Internet access (for the guide, Netflix, etc) and for the Mini Vox to connect to the Bolt. The only reason I did not go for lifetime plan is that it goes with the device. So if your Bolt fails, you lose the lifetime plan. It can't be transferred to a new Bolt. That is the catch.
