The foam in the top helps keep the shape, but is actually intended to help the hat float. It is like that because the original hat was for sailing. Good video

Nice job Don. Irene was Las Vegas at a liquor store buying some Champaign to share with a number of other women family members. She talked with the two guys in front of her waiting to check out with a substantial collection of alcohol. She asked where they were from having detected the Canadian accent. One fellow said to the other “you didn’t say ‘eh’ did you!” We have a lot of Canadian friends, so she recognized the accent and cadence. Thanks for sharing. Take care in the heat!

BrainStormAcres. That was so fun to hear about. For me the accent gets richer when I am back in Canada. It's subtle but I am surprised at how many Americans pick it out even 30 years after living in the USA. Americans treat us so nicely its really fun to be a Canadian in the US. When we washed the toys she'd brought for her nieces and nephews, that had been soaking in the kitchen sink, they didn't stink. So we washed her clothes with dish soap. It worked! I bought a hat that looks pretty close to yours. Here In Douglas, Az it’s hot and dusty. So it gets dirty pretty fast. I soak mine in water with a whole lot less soap for about 5 minute😁. Just enough to break down the dirt. Then I scrub it with just my hands and the hat itself. I didn’t want to use a brush because I didn’t want prematurely wear it out. Then I hang it outside and here Arizona as you know it dries in no time. 👍🏼

I have many hats and sometimes it is hard to figure out which hat to wear. Many are ballcap hats but they are Air Force Veteran hats. Trying to find land in this area to buy then have one of those Amish garages put on it. I have way to much stuff to fit into something as small as you have. I own a home in a small town right now and paid it off over a decade ago. But I want in the country where I don't have to look at neighbors all the time. Hope I find one soon before I am past my prime. 70 years of age now.

Aaaah! A very important question for you Don! How full of bugs is your area? When I visit my grandma in Texas I'm always amazed at just how many bugs swarm the state. Its not as intense as Texas as its so dry its not so conducive to bug propagation. That said there are always plenty of house flies buzzing around and good number of moths at night. Some big kooky looking insects after the monsoons and some wet comes. Also good numbers of black widow spiders. I found some under my cottage last night. But overall no where's near as bug focused as TX and the South East US. Hope that helps!
