    I’m planning on using this on trim. Didn’t think before starting to paint. But I finished around a few doors and down my hallway just to have the paint start peeling off pretty much right after I finished. I guess that’s what I get trying to cut corners and not prep. Now I’m going to have to remove the paint I applied use this liquid sander and then repaint.

    The two sides kind of remind me of when I go for an eye exam, and the doctor asks, "Which is better, this one....or this one?" And they always look identical. Ha! I appreciate the effort, though. The paint came off, so I believe you when you say the gloss did too. I'm going to definitely use this stuff to get rid of gloss on my kitchen cabinets that is driving me nuts. Thanks!

    Great video! We are repainting the trim in our house. My husband has repainted in the past and used only this product to prep. While it helped the new paint to adhere well, the trim had dings and imperfections for the first time it was painted so repainting over it only made them look worse. It is important to point out that this product will remove the gloss from the wood but will not remove any imperfections that are already there. In other words, if there are brush marks, paint runs or any other flaws, you will still need to sand! Thank you.

    Just finished my kitchen cabinets using liquid sandpaper. I applied it to my oak cabinets with a sponge, and allowed it to sit until it dried. I then reapplied it two more times, until I could see that the gloss on the cabinets was fading. Following this process, I took a sanding block, and roughed up areas that appeared a bit glossy. I then proceeded to painted my cabinets, using Behr premium, water-based stain & ploy. The color I used was satin, espresso B6212. Although the entire process was a lot of work, it was better than removing the cabinets and sanding. Following my cabinet makeover, I redid my claw foot, oak kitchen table using the same process, which only took me one afternoon. I'd recommend this product VS other time consuming methods.

    That’s a great question. Are your cabinets laminate? I have seen some reviews of people who claim it worked on these and other types of surfaces. Let me know what you find out. Thanks for watching!

Also, we have flaking lead-based paint on top of non-flaking, non-lead based paint on window/door frames, doors, trim. Any idea if we can use this on the flaking paint, and if we'll need to do a 2nd "coat" ? Tx again.

  • @HandyHudsonite

    Gabriela, since you're dealing with the stair railing that gets a lot of wear and tear from hands you may want to go with sanding. You could use the deglosser for the initial removal of gloss just to make the sanding a bit easier. Great question!

    Kevin, good question. So you’re just wanting to add a fresh coat? You want to make sure it’s clean. It depends how much wear the trim has. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary, but that’s my opinion. I’m no expert when it comes to all painting techniques. You could reach out to the company and ask them for their advice on that project.

    Pam, unfortunately, I don't this this product will work for laminate-type surfaces. You could try applying another coat to a small area of the surface to see what happens, but if it doesn't work I would recommend using 150-220 grit sandpaper to sand the laminate because it’s the BEST way to get the primer and paint to adhere properly. Hope this helps out. Thanks for watching my tutorial!

    I usually paint over the furniture with chalk paint. I clean it first with Krudcutter for paint. That is enough. With this piece, I only want to darken the wooden finish by putting on a dark gel stain with a brush and then wiping it down with shop towels. I don't want to paint it. I meant to buy denatured alcohol but picked up the liquid sandpaper by mistake. Since I have to roughen up the surface lightly with sandpaper after the alcohol anyhow, I thought this might be a great shortcut. Any thoughts?

    Thank you for the question, Catriona. My guess would be that it should work fine to remove the gloss on those doors and skirtings, but I've never tried. You could try and remove the gloss on a small section of those to see if it works to your liking, otherwise you may want to pursue another method of removing it. If you're looking to completely remove the paint from those surfaces you'll need to also sand them as this product is only for removing gloss not the entire painted layer. Thanks for watching!

    That's a good question, Faheem. I've never used it on any metallic surface. Klean Strip has a product for prepping metal surfaces that would work better for your motorcycle. You can find info about it here: amzn.to/3gpncnm - Thanks so much for watching my review.

    That's a great question. It's been stated that it will work on polyurethane. I've never used it on that, but you could try applying it to a small area and see how it does. Thanks for watching!

    Chris, good question. I think it should work fine on the fingerboard, but I've never tried that so I can't guarantee how well it will remove the gloss.

    Will this work on gloss paint on wall?

  • @HandyHudsonite

    @HandyHudsonite

    I believe it should take off the gloss from paint as well. It may depend on the type of wall you're using this on. If it has a lot of texture, it may be a little more tricky to get all of the gloss off.

    Thanks for question. Yes, it’s a good idea to clean it off more after stripping the gloss. You may have to go over the piece a couple more times with the deglosser to get as much off as you can. After the small debris is cleaned off, then it’s ready to prime and paint. It really is that easy. It saved my wife and daughter hours when we refinished our kitchen cabinets. Appreciate you taking the time to watch my video! 👍

    I had my bathroom walls finished in a leather look. A topcoat of satin polyurethane was applied over to seal the paint. However, even though it is a satin, the walls are super shiny. Would this product remove the shine without ruining the paint finish and if so, what would you use to apply the product to the walls? Thank you!

  • @HandyHudsonite

    @HandyHudsonite

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your question. That's an interesting situation. I can't guarantee that applying this would not effect the underlying satin paint. It's hard to control how far it would penetrate. You could apply some in a discreet area of the wall to see how it comes out, but chances are you may have to repaint once you try and strip off that gloss with this. Hope this helps you out.

    I tried the same stuff on some cabinets today that are some type of oil based lacquor or something and it was as much work rubbing the gloss off as it was to just sand it down. Seriously not looking forward to sanding 3 cabinets inside and out tomorrow

  • @HandyHudsonite

    Sorry to hear that, Carl. Oil-based paints can tend to be a lot harder to deal with. Is it a rougher texture you’re dealing with? If so, the deglosser might have a harder time getting the gloss off all aspects of the surface. How much were you applying? How long did you leave it on? Just trying to get a sense of your situation.

    It just depends on how well you feel the gloss came off the first time. When my wife and daughter used this on our kitchen cabinets, they only had to apply it once. However, you'll need to assess your situation and see if once is enough. Thanks for checking out my tutorial!

    I am a professional painter/refinisher and I've been in. The industry for 17 years. This product is trash. Yes, it will remove some gloss on the finish but that DOES NOT mean that you're getting a sound substrate that will provide any bond and it is not a good su substitute for mechanical sanding to achieve adhesion. Don't screw up your project, take the time to do it right.

I was wondering if I can apply this to all my handrails and spindles on the deck and then come back to paint them at my convenience or is there a hard/soft window in which I would be obliged to apply a primer coat before I lose the effectiveness of the deglosser? Thank you in advance Vince
