Remembering Jon Schnepp

Ойын-сауық

Jon Schnepp was a giant amongst men both literally and figuratively and had a heart that matched the size of his awesome frame. He was an inovator, a visionary, a fan, an artist, a creator and one who appreciated creation. There has never been anyone like him, nor will there ever be in the future.
John Campea talks about some of his favorite memories of Jon Schnepp, shares some stories, talks about how they met, how they started working together and how Schnepp influenced and taught him along the way.
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE to the Jon Schnepp medical fund here. He still needs our help. Thank you. www.gofundme.com/getwelljonsc...

Schnepp passing is the first time I cried when someone I didn't personally know passed away. That's all on Schnepp. His level of personable exuberance emotionally connected the audience to him. He held nothing back, loved fandom with his whole being, and wore his emotions for all to see. Big man. Bigger heart. A devastating loss. A heavy reminder of the brevity of life.

Jon Schnepp is one man I find it so hard to say goodbye to. I never met Jon, yet I always thought of him as a very special friend. I actually began crying very profusely when I found out the news. It is hard to believe that I watched him doing his live Hero broadcast on July 11, being as sweaty as ever - excited about Wizard World and SD Comic-Con. July 12, he was laying in a hospital bed. RIP Jon Schnepp!

3:25 *I like how these two pictures tell one story: On the left there is Jon and you see the plants down below and the vines covering some of the rails. On the right I see John toasting Jon, who is not there, but my, how the plants have grown and the vines have thickened up!!!! It is a symbol of life going on. I think this is a wonderful way of saying hey, Jon would want us to live and to bloom and grow to our fullest. I am quite sure he loved life and now he knows how precious it is. Thanks, Jon. And, thank you John.*

I watched Jon Schnepp when he was part of AMC Movie Talk then transitioning to Collider Movie Talk and have been a huge fan of his because he always brought laughter, joy, fun, awesomeness to everything. Hearing his untimely passing is just hard to process. The passion he showed for what he loved was just amazing. There were times when I had bad days I always watched Collider Heroes because when he starts his video you immediately know you are going to have fun from start to finish. His wit, sense of humor, spontaneity was just impressive. Schnepp was all about passion and he always encourage his colleagues, fans telling them if you are passionate about something you should pursue no matter what even if people say you can't succeed you should always prove them wrong.

I traded my "Night Force" comic books (1983/ Vol.1/ 14 issues) to Schnepp for "TDOSLWH". He sent me the DVD/Blue-Ray combo signed with a patch and sticker. I also sent Jon 2 issues of "The New Teen Titans" featuring the introduction of "The Runaways" that he was supposed to give to YOU because I remember you saying your wife loved The Runaways on an episode of Heroes or Movie Talk. I figured it would be a nice gift to spring onto your wife one day but I never asked Schnepp if he gave them to you. I also sent him a couple of horror comics from 1983. THAT was my fandom connection with Jon- not comics but horror. That guy knew his horror movies. Stay Sweaty, Campea!

Just wanted to say thank you John for introducing me and many of us to Jon Schnepp. Three years ago, I was in a really low place. I didn't see a future, I didn't see any hope, no light at the end of the tunnel. I don't have a lot of friends, socialising is difficult for me. I felt so alone. It was guys like Jon Schnepp who helped me through that. His shows talking about superheroes and comic book movies made my world. It gave me hope,it showed me that there were people like me,that I wasn't alone and that I had friends. I'm still not great at the moment but I have hope, hope instilled in me by people like Jon Schnepp, who wore his heart on his sleeve and had so much enthusiasm for what he was passionate about. That in itself helped me grow passionate, it gave a reason to live. It was an honour and a privilege to watch his videos and see his personality and passion ooze from the screen. Hearing of Jon's passing has hurt me deeply. I feel like I've lost someone close. What he brought to the community can never be replaced but his legacy will live on because he inspired so many to love their passions. For all his talk of heroes, Jon Schnepp was one of the biggest of them all. If we all lived like Schnepp, the world would be a better place. A great geek and a great man. RIP.

Amc movie talk and jon schnepp got me through a dark point in my life. Would watch the show religiously after work on my phone smoking a cigarette out my window. I was at the time having frequent anxiety attacks and dealing with chronic insomnia, and was the loneliest time of my life. But watching Amc at the end of the day always put a smile on my face, and jon schnepp was a massive part of that. Just seeing Schnepp geeking out over the latest movie news was truly captivating and joyfull. Also the guy was hilarious and had me in stitches so many times during the Amc days. He truly had a one of a kind sense of humour that was never at anyone's expense, he was only there to spread his love for everything that is movies and comics. and that showed every time he spoke on camera. The guy was one in a billion and I will miss him very much. My thoughts go out to his family and friends and anyone who had the pleasure knowing him. Rip Schnepp

I will never forget the night we met Jon. It was the amc taping in Atlanta. Me and my twin brother were super early probably an hour early. So we ate and saw Jon walking down below us. We didn't know how it would go but we wanted to meet him before the event. He stopped talked us while we were walking then we stopped in the Lego store. Him and Dennis were taking a picture with a big Lego Batman. Ill never forget. He looked at me and my brother and said we need twins in this picture come on twins. My favorite memory. I felt so honored to be in an amc picture with Jon. Obviously we talked later about comics and film....took more pictures together but that first interaction was the best and one of my favorite memories ever because he included us in that. Even we only met him once I still felt like a friend....a fellow nerd. I felt apart of his life even we never saw each other again. I still felt apart of all of it. I still miss Schnepp very very much. 😢 I had a dream a couple nights ago that I was in a dark place and suddenly I saw him. I reached out to him and he took my hand and helped me up. I haven't seen or read anything about Schnepp in months. He's still in my mind. I miss you you big teddy bear, shirt rat, King of the Sweaties! God bless.

I’ll never forget him saying over an episode of Heroes that whatever you have on your mind to create, do it today for you may not have the chance to see it realized tomorrow Thank you Jon Schnepp for that piece of advice that wakes me up everyday. And thank you John Campea for continuing that march of passion and fandom

Jon was the "Everyman". He was all encompassing and engaging. He brought you in and you were a part of him, and a part of the community. He defended every marginalized group and loved life and everyone to the full. He made such an impact on me that I have learned so much from who he was. Not what he said, which of course you can learn from, but who he was as a person. THAT, above all, is what I will miss!!!

Thank you John. I loved it when Schnepp would call back those obscure films that blew my mind as a kid to like Zardoz and Phantom of the Paradise. I loved his passion for art and support of artists. I will miss seeing Schnepp on the tube. Like an old comic book, the world seems a little more faded without him but all the richer he was here. RIP Schnepp.

Sitting here reading comics on a Saturday afternoon and Schnepp just popped into my mind. His enthusiasm was what got me back into comics after several years off. I miss his energy and passion and his crazy ass hair.

Thank you John. 1st, and foremost, my heart is broken for you & Ann, and the both of you are in my thoughts, prayers,, and you my deepest condolences in this incredibly difficult time, and for the loss of Jon Schnepp. Second, Thank you with the entirety of my heart. You ARE the single biggest reason a LARGE majority of the comic book community, the AMC Movie Talk, then Collider Video fans, Marvel and DC fans, some movie fans in general, and even heavy metal fans, for introducing, again, a large majority of all of us, too the #KingOfTheSweaties, the great Jon Schnepp! His knowledge AND passion was second to none, his realness was genuine, his passion pure, and the joy he got from sharing his knowledge to those he spoke and or met with. I had the honor and privilege to met Jon last year at NYCC, drank with him & played pool, walked, talked and laughed together. I went to his panel, as were 50 other people, but, for some reason, it go cancelled. But NO ONE told us fans waiting. As far as Schnepp know, it was cancelled. Then some tweeted him, and the NYCC peeople told him, no one told the fans, and they are waiting. So Jon RUSHED over, and he was sweaty lol....He saw us and went WASSUP!. He apologized to us, and said he was told it was cancelled! He was doing the Chucky Panel. So Jon talked with us for about 40 minutes or so, and afterwards I waited to speak with him. And you were right. He IS the same in person, as on camera. We talked about comics, movies and heavy metal. I gave him my 4 Metallica LIVE DVD's of their 30th Anniversary shows that was for us Fan Club Members. Jon put em in his bag, and then handed me a Jon Schnepp signed, #1 Slayer comic he just did. I was blown away. We walked and talked metal for like 500ft, lol, and he asked if I was going to the Meet and Greet later on, and I said yes. He said cool, see ya their! I got to the bar early, and when Jon came in, I waved him to the back where not a lot of people were. I offered to buy him a drink, and he asked if I wanted to play pool? Both were yeses. I bought him a drink and played pool with him a couple of games as we talked more metal, the MCU and more. And I got him pretty buzzed, lol. I walked over to the NY Comedy Club with him as Mark Ellis was putting on a show, where Jon and Rocha, were going to have a few minutes each on stage. When Ellis announced Schnepp, the place EXPLODED in cheers and applause! It was loud as hell, and awesome! And he was BUZZED big time, which was clearly noticed by all, lol.. He had the loudest cheers of the night! Everyone LOVED HIM! And rightfully so!. Now we will never who know if I, or the lot of us who never heard of Schnepp before Movie Talk, would've ever heard of him, IF you didn't get that recommendation from your friend! I've been watching you since early 2011, months after my Mom died from a brutal bought of COPD. Nothing made me happy any more, and nothing interested me. Then I saw a GIF of you on YT, with your arms in the air, and a smile, in the recommended video's. So I watched it, learned things, and actually grinned, then laughed, for the 1st time in months. Movie Talk became my daily go-to, and slowly started helping me gett out of my depression. Now fast forward to what you brought up in the video, "Who were the GOTG?" I remember the episode well. You said that line, and introduced this guy, Jon Schnepp to help us out! And the rest was history. This guy KNEW his comic book info, and all of it. Writers, artists, story lines etc.. It was quite impressive. Then you had him on again, and from a fans view, it was magical, the chemistry was off the charts. The back and forth, feeding off each other, was awesome. Then one show, you said back by popular demand, as you the fans asked for more Schnepp, Here's Jon Schnepp! And then you hired him!! I was so thrilled when it was announced I pumped my fists in the air and I was smiling so big in happiness! Everyone you were on screen with, had "it", and had chemistry with you. Which was OFF THE CHARTS btw! My favorite shows were of you, Jon, Kristian and Mark. The chemistry and togetherness WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE, PURE MAGIC! Thank you for what you have done for all of us fans, and for introducing us to the man who all of us just loved to see, wanted to learn from, hear from, and want more of on a daily basis.
