because it's melodrama. although that has been kind of tempered by all the Whedon/Kevin Smith type snark and dimestore cynicism. not defending it, but like, back in the day, Kitty Pryde compares being called "mutie" to calling a black guy the N word. you gotta suspend your disbelief to take this shit seriously, which is why movies trying to do gritty realism always hamstrings it

DC actually did a neat thing with that. In one story arc they revealed that Death was leaving the boundary between life and death open on purpose, in order to build up an army of people who had died before. Fun way to use a major comic trope to their advantage.

A parademon explodes…and the guts turn into a clue, which draws the mother box…pointing Batman to the port village….Wonder Woman jumps from a ledge in a huge self sacrifice move, to catch her sword, that will end the fight…she’s just about to catch it, but flash boinks it back to her, saving her 1 second, then she lands the sacrificial jump with no problem….then the fight continues… Superman picks up an entire building that’s reenforced so it doesn’t crumble to bits….coz the building was very precariously placed in the 1st place…

You guys joke, but Robotman is a real DC character, who is different from Cyborg. Both of them show up in "Doom Patrol", with Robotman played by Brendan Fraser.

Because in his mind, someone with invincibility, a superhuman intellect and godlike power settling for being a mid-level _reporter_ is too ridiculous for him.

The most surprising thing about the whole WB v Snyder saga was that Snyder actually made Justice League to be more of a traditional crowd pleaser per WB's wish, but the execs had so little faith in the project that they just sabotaged the film.

Didn’t you enjoy the arc of Wonder Rey, Crylo Ren, heel-turn Luke Skywalker and General Leia the most important and influential senior citizen in the Galaxy? I find it hilarious Mike described the first Wonder Woman movie as the most fun (which it is) but it also takes place during WW1

I know Jay wouldn't appreciate me saying this considering the writer, but regarding superman's secret identity. In Superman: American Alien by Max Landis theres a great moment where Superman reveals that people have in-fact seen him without his glasses from time to time, and they always have the same basic response. "You look like superman" then they move on, because Clark's persona change is what makes the glasses work, not the other way around. The glasses are just the icing on the cake when it comes to his secret identity. And about Detective Chimp. Silly idea, but he's awesome. Usually turns up for christmas specials or other special issues. Always great when he teams up with Batman. Shouldn't work at all, but Chimp is always an absolute joy to read. I'd love to see a Matt Reeves detective chimp movie. Maybe he can team up with Pattinson's Batman for a post-credit scene or something a few movies down the line.

Mike is pretty spot on about Cy-bore Back in the 80’s, Cyborg was an interesting new idea. And then *every 90’s scifi movie had a cyborg* character and we got really bored of “man & machine” Cybore’s “character” was added to the Justice League by Geoff Johns during New 52, which is arguably stupid, because now a superhero has powers because …of a Motherbox. Thats his origin. He had a car accident, and his dad used a totally alien device on his son’s corpse, and he came out as an angry guy with near unlimited powers it seems. Which retcon’s Motherboxes from the old Jack Kirby Fourth World versions into what they are now, plot conveniences-devices!

"Wonder Woman was the funnest DC movie, which nobody really expected." It's also literally about the horrors of World War 1.

They also made the Germans the bad guys, and had villains so over the top they could have been from any WW2 serial. It was so obvious they changed her origin to WW1 instead of 2 to distance her from Captain America :p

I feel like the Whedon JL is the movie made from the book that is the Snyder Cut. Like, there was a novel that was the Snyder Cut, and Whedon butchered it into a movie version. It's like what happened with Watchmen or Dune (1984).

Holy shit I've seen this movie, but watching this not a single scene looks familiar.

I'm still baffled WB got cold feet on the two part Justice League idea. The Snyder Cut acts as basically an origin film for Cyborg and has to introduce Aquaman and Flash as well. The audience doesn't know half the team yet, so of course you'll need a lot of runtime to account for that. Imagine if we had no idea who Captain America, Black Widow, and Hulk were before the Avengers came out and they just show up in the film.

Even though this version is a fucking mess, the "preparing for the future" thing is absolutely from Batman v Superman when Bruce has a dream/vision of the future which includes parademons.
