Ready or Not...Our Cycling Adventure Begins

With neither of us feeling 100% fit, the day dawns when we must take the 3.5 hour train journey north to Scotland and commence our 7 day journey back. We have no idea if we will make it, or what awaits us - but that's the thrill of adventure.

Good to see some of my local cycling roads (north Northumberland and Scottish borders). It's a great area for cycling, and you're right, the drivers are generally very considerate and I hardly ever have an issue with risky overtakes.

I can't say how much I agree with Wendy about bagpipes, just torture for the ears! I like Edinburgh but it's best on foot and in the winter, certainly too crowded for bikes in the centre. Loving the journey so far. Weather seems very kind and not too much traffic. In some ways we seem to have gone backwards with train travel. Certainly faster, quieter and cleaner but as an old codger I regret the abandoning of the guards van. I'm old enough to remember when taking your bike was more civilised. I really don't know how any one with an ebike would be able to lift their bike onto one of those hooks. Wendy in full song. Wonderful.🥰

Some of the rail companies just don’t get it. Up in Scotland we actually saw a ‘Bike Bus’. I suppose the only saving grace is that they don’t charge for a bike, although I’d be happy to pay if it was a decent service.
