Good to see some of my local cycling roads (north Northumberland and Scottish borders). It's a great area for cycling, and you're right, the drivers are generally very considerate and I hardly ever have an issue with risky overtakes.

Excellent stuff, probably the best cycling channel on KZread 👏

Great video and great to see you in different roads. High spirits all round for sure. I really enjoyed riding in Northumberland last summer. It’s a lovely area with some stunning scenery and castles galore.

Such a difference from your usual rides, a great start with wonderful views, keep on trucking👍 though the different stages

I can't say how much I agree with Wendy about bagpipes, just torture for the ears! I like Edinburgh but it's best on foot and in the winter, certainly too crowded for bikes in the centre. Loving the journey so far. Weather seems very kind and not too much traffic. In some ways we seem to have gone backwards with train travel. Certainly faster, quieter and cleaner but as an old codger I regret the abandoning of the guards van. I'm old enough to remember when taking your bike was more civilised. I really don't know how any one with an ebike would be able to lift their bike onto one of those hooks. Wendy in full song. Wonderful.🥰

Some of the rail companies just don’t get it. Up in Scotland we actually saw a ‘Bike Bus’. I suppose the only saving grace is that they don’t charge for a bike, although I’d be happy to pay if it was a decent service.

I’m quite envious. It’s a fair while since I did a long distance Audax. Hopefully you will have received my email about our Woodhall Spa ride. Not quite the adventure you’re both having but great to be in another part of the country. Looking forward to your Middlesbrough to Whitby section, my home area.

@@RideWithRoy We were in Woodhall last week and rode your route. Very enjoyable. Sadly the weather didn’t play the game on the days we were there. There should be an email from me somewhere in your system. For some reason my Hotmail emails occasionally disappear into the ether before finally emerging in some obscure folder particularly with gmail users.

Yes, I believe they are the only ones, Andy. Subscriber Michael Fulcher from Peterborough is an expert on this subject, so if you have a specific question I’ll make sure he sees it. Although it was tight, bear in mind that my handlebar is 50cm wide. Also note, bike space is limited and must be booked.

Edinburgh was nuts...looks like a great adventure 😀. Wendy could fill in with the Proclaimers 😊if one of the boys got sick.

From Oz … Looks a very pleasant ride except for inner Edinburgh … thinking of LEJOG for 2025 and your route down the E would be one way south afterwards.

Glitch is rather an understatement…..

Myself and my son both had MTB with panniers booked on that train.. my gosh it was a struggle and propper nightmare with wide bars, we had book, but the places were already filled with bikes .. so booking has no purpose :( ended up getting off a dunbar

@@RideWithRoy Definitely. But like yourself, having spent hundreds of pounds on a Varia Radar and cameras to try and make cycling safer, its a shock to find that a piece of laminated card with four magnets costing £10 has had a bigger impact.

Goodness, that ride thru the city was difficult to watch. I was practically holding my breath just waiting for some oblivious tourist to step out in front of you. What a lot of people! I'm sure both of you were relieved to get out into more open country. The scenery was beautiful -- everything so fresh and green. So this was the first two days of your adventure, right? Wendy doesn't like bagpipes? I get the impression that LOTS of people agree with her. I must be a nut; I have always enjoyed bagpipes. 😮 Guess it takes all kinds, right? 😊 You took a bit of a spill at the end there. Hope neither you nor your bike sustained any injury. Looking forward to the next installment. 🚵🚵‍♀️. Onward and upward! Note: I tried to find a bagpipe icon for Wendy. I'm sure she's happy I didn't have one. 😂

I’m with you, Linda, I love the skirl of the pipes, especially when played by a Scots military band. More about the spill next time, but needless to say Wendy was very concerned - for my bike!

Yes the crowds in Edinburgh were particularly challenging - guess they weren’t expecting people on bikes! So how can you tell if a bagpipe is out of tune? Someone is blowing into it! 😂

@@wendysheehan2413 -- Ah, it takes great musical appreciation to enjoy bagpipes. 🎶😁 I'm the only one in my family that likes bagpipes. Just recently I learned I'm Scots-Irish on my dad's side. Maybe that accounts for it. 🤔 😇

@missdarby1 to me, a bell feels like a command to get out of my way - I much prefer to make a friendly call out. I use a Garmin radar that alerts me to anything coming up behind, without me having to check a mirror. It allows me to concentrate on the road ahead.

You met the tourists in the Royal mile then? Not a place to ride after April! I was more surprised at the big group of Japanese tourists you met out at Niddrie, there’s literally nothing out there, they must be following Komoot 😂 Innocent Railway tunnel is always a highlight when you’re heading east and downhill.

No idea where the Japanese’s tourists were going it wasn’t exactly a tourist area! We did like the fact you could order drinks from your seat on the train and they delivered it to you….could get use to that….my hubbie doesn’t seem quite so efficient 😂
