    I took out cycling insurance, not to chase car owners, but to sue any dog owner should I come off my bike due to a dog being on an extendable lead or not on a lead. The owner would have to pay for their own dog's treatment, your medical treatment and any damage to the bike.

    Highway Code Rule 56 Dogs. Do not let a dog out on the road on its own. Keep it on a short lead when walking on the pavement, road or path shared with cyclists or horse riders.

    If you go near Duns in the Borders pop into the Jim Clark museum. Small but very interesting. One or two good coffee shops in the town as well. Jim Clark Cafe Bistro is where we went.

    Gear ratios for real world real cyclists are the way to go. I still ride a triple and love it. Consider flat MTB pedals with MTB shoes, amazing how well they work.

    When I got my tifosi road bike 4 years ago, it said tiagra, but when it came realised it was only levers and mechs, the chainset was FSA omega, went to swap to a spare tiagra I found, then realised needed needed new bottom bracket. As the spindles are different diameters. 😅 9:31

    I can't exactly see the route but can tell you that you might have some some 'surprises' on the Yorkshire section if you're going the way I think you are. Moot point but Beverley is East Yorkshire. Lovely market town. I'm in Selby so will keep an eye on your ride plans and timing. A brew and a natter would be mega.

    The 46t 30t combination is ideal for enjoying the scenery. We dont all want the fastest gearing and we don't all want to resort to riding cheaper recreational bikes. Its tough finding something in-between. PS. You'll need to change the BB moving to a Shimano crank.

    My trusty work bike Diana Dawes has Shimano Biopace rings which were an early form of oval chainrings that didnt catch on. Diana is not a great climber, but i do find the Biopace is great on the flat and light undulations allowing you to carry speed

    Having cycled across France to Spain on many occasion self supported on my own , My best tip is Have a good Breakfast ,and stop for lunch, 50 to 60 miles is very easy to do across the day and remember its not a race against the clock !!!!!, your on Holiday , also take the bare minimum of kit , the more you take , the heavier the bike. cheers Paul.

    There were oval chainrings back in the 80's by Shimano called Biopace. Why does everyone think this is new stuff? "Biopace is a tradename for a type of ovoid bicycle chain ring manufactured by Shimano from 1983 to 1993"

  • @RideWithRoy

    @RideWithRoy

    5 ай бұрын

    I don't think anyone thinks it's new, but certainly new to me. It's my understanding that the AB version works in the opposite sense to Biopace, so the two can't be compared.

    I felt for your muscles at the top of the climb, well done Wendy. Don't get me started on inconsiderate dog owners, I like dogs but not all their owners. I ride a 3x8 set up and have put in my stock chain rings and cassettes to try and future proof my bikes. Manufacturers are offering less choice if any at all for parts. 1x12 is their chosen route but not mine. Good luck with getting the right crank for Wendy's bike. The upcoming ride sounds great, fingers crossed the weather will be kind to you. Yesterday I rode twenty miles in the worst weather I've ever ridden in. Thunder and lightning, hailstones, torrential rain and winds blowing you across the road. Luckily it was not too cold and I had the right clothing but I was glad to get home. Is Wendy compiling a song list for the long ride?😁 Thanks for the video

    I've haven't noticed you on your Ribble CGR-ALe bike for a while Roy. I'm just wondering if you have fallen out of favour with your Ribble pedal assist. I am enjoying your videos and product reviews and not forgetting your banter with Wendy.

  • @RideWithRoy

    @RideWithRoy

    5 ай бұрын

    Funny you should ask that, David. I bought the Ribble as I expected to be needing assist by now. However, I manage with the manual Tempest so well that I ride that most of the time. I would have ridden the Ribble a couple of weeks back but the right hand 105 hydraulic lever broke and I’ve been trying to find a sensibly priced replacement (sub £200). Coincidentally, I’ve just found a used one on eBay that has lots of scratches that I’ve picked up for £60. When it arrives I shall swap the damaged part and keep my pristine parts 🤞. Although. I love the Ribble, I do find the Titanium frame a superior ride. I am due to test the new Boost Bike through axle wheel on the Tempest. If that performs as well as I expect I’ll consider selling the Ribble and just swap wheels over when I feel the need. The Ribble is still a great bike but if I can electrify the Tempest that will give me my ideal e assist.

    My sister and I have old bikes (1990?) which have 52/42 rings and 13-26 cassettes. Just totally unrealistic for average real world cyclists. Steep hills are impossible. Can't really do much with the cassettes as they are old 6 speed frame spacing, so modern cassettes won't fit.

    Looked like a lovely ride. When I heard the church bells, it occurred to me that I haven't heard any bells locally for years. I guess the churches here don't ring their bells any more. Too bad. 😔 Congratulations to both of you (but especially Wendy) making that hill. 👏👏 I count myself lucky that my city has no hills to speak of. My trike has one front chainring. If I were still riding a bike though, I'd find the lack of real hills to be deadly dull.....if I were younger. 😊 It's great that you're happy with your new setup. Looking forward to Wendy's opinion when she gets her own ovals. Your bikepacking ride sounds as though it should be a great trip. I wish you both good weather the whole way with no punctures. Just curious, is your video with the trike riders off the table? I recall there was a miscommunication as to the meet up day when you were first setting it up. Like you two I'm happy the days are finally getting longer and at least for now, the weather is relatively mild. Happy riding. 😊

    No, that was a random picture of the trike riders, Linda. We've not managed to meet up with them yet. As for the bells. In some places they are under threat as people move into a village and then complain that the bells are a nuisance, so have them silenced 😡
