It's Over!
We knew the final day would be tough! A 90 mile ride after six days in the saddle was likely to be too much. In addition to fatigue, our mood suffered - and it showed!
Apologies for the sound in places on this one. I was using a new radio mic setup and wasn't used to some of the settings.

“It was a good idea at the time” springs to mind lol I’m only joking, honestly Roy and Wendy, you both did fantastically well on completing such a tough and challenging trip. Well done to you both😊
I knew I would like this series and I wasn't wrong. All credit to you both. A trip like you've just made will be one of your favourite memories to look back on. I'm sure you must both have been very tired at the end. Thanks to you and Wendy for taking your viewers along with you.👍
You soldiered on and accomplished your goal! Just as important is, on reflection, realized it had all been a bit much. Laudable is your contingency planning if things get too risky.
Well done both of you. I'm glad that I had my own little project to take me northwards (The Great North Road) as those off road cycleways aren't for me! Regarding rest days I agree with you. My strategy is to have a couple of short days, trying to stay somewhere interesting the night between.
Well done both and thanks for taking us all along on the ride.
Subscribing based purely on your channel description. Riding slow and the quietest route is exactly my style. 👍

Great to have you along. Yes, what you see is what you get 😀
Well done both, I’ve enjoyed watching this series, it looked great fun. That would be my kind of bike packing, staying in hotels. You seem to have had a trouble free ride and no mechanicals, and apart from your off, thankfully with no injury a successful and safe ride

Great series Roy n Wendy. Fantastic effort after such an epic week. You need a good few days recovery for sure. Thanks for taking the time to edit the video, I know how long it takes.
Lovely series. Very well done both of you, great achievement. Congratulations to you both 🚴♀️🚴♂️
Well done Roy and Wendy! a great end to a magnificent journey. You should both be very proud of your achievement. Thanks for letting me take part in a small part of it.

It’s a great route enjoy!
Great series of videos Roy and Wendy. Loved the adventures. Well done. If you fancy a shorter 3 day adventure why not look at "the bay" cycle way (around Morecambe bay from Barrow in Furness to Glasson Dock near Lancaster). I did it with my 80 year old cycling mad father in law a couple of months ago and added extra inland loops from the designated route for extra distance. Amazing scenery, manageable daily distances and climbs, and generally quiet roads. I know you can get trains to barrow and Lancaster so maybe one to think about for you both in the future. cheers

Thanks for that suggestion. We love that part of the country, after starting our Way of The Roses ride from Morecambe Bay, so definitely one to consider.

Well done Roy and Wendy. Loving the channel and certainly feeling for you at odd times during the adventure. Interested in your comments about the rest day or lack.
Brilliant effort Roy & Wendy & a lovely series of videos, was nice to see Paul Spence pop up too.
Brilliant well done both of you ! Glad you’re still friends ha ha! Can’t wait to see your next adventures 😊🎉
Fantastic effort the both of you. It’s been great watching along and seeing all of the east coast sights.
From Oz … thanks. Your wrap up of learnings was excellent. I’ll look forward to following in your tracks if I get there next year. Ian
Thank you both for last few days, the best yet. Congratulations and enjoy your well earned rest….’til next adventure
Well done Carol and Roy. Just binge-watched your adventure. Looks like you took one of my never-ending straight roads on my regular commute into Gainsborough... not nice in a headwind - nowhere at all to hide!
@RideWithRoy

Thanks, Richard. Yes, that was the one. I commented to Wendy that I thought we were near to where you live. Fortunately we had a tailwind on that stretch. I think a headwind along there would have finished us.
An amazing achievement, congratulations to you both on a monumental trip. 👏🏻👍🏼🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️
Beverley is my favourite town, I was at Leconfield in the early 90’s.
Well done to both of you. And thanks for sharing the experience, I’ve really enjoyed this series.
It looked a good route you took for most of your journey east yorkshire appeared a tad rough........ Well done to you both, look forward to the next video. 'Ull' east yorkshire.

We encountered the worse drivers in East Yorkshire. It was really noticeable compared to further north.

Yeah have to agree with you on that, hull does have alot of cycle lanes & paths but vehicles still get close on roads.....still away to go. 'Ull' east yorkshire.
Well done to you both. Great adventure 👍
What a great ride! Congratulations. 👏👏 Even tho there were some admittedly not-so-congenial moments, you both made it back alive. 😊 Thanks so much, Roy for taking the time to make these wonderful videos. Wendy, good job for sticking with it and making that tough climb. You both deserve a nice long rest.

Great effort I’m very impressed
Well done Roy and Wendy. Riding everyday certainly takes it out of you when not used to it, especially with the variable road surfaces . Good video coverage of the terrain and good to see the sea at times. That drone is clever but the noise would get on my nerves. Thanks and I look forward to the next ride - a meet up your way would be good, are you doing any sportives?
@RideWithRoy
23 күн бұрын
Probably won’t do any sportives, Martin, but I may do another Audax. I left the sound of the drone in to encourage comment. I use a noise cancellation feature in the edit, but the Hover app does it automatically if voice is recorded via that. You wouldn’t be using it for fun, so being able to remove the sound makes it ideal for what I use it for.
Congratulations.
Thanks both, great watch.
tough and Earned great work
Congrats Roy and Wendy, well done a great effort. 👍
Great ride and great film. Thank you for sharing.

Well done both!
Great adventure, well done both
Well done
Congratulations to you both on a great ride and some very enjoyable videos. On reflection, would south to north have been better? The prevailing wind would have been in your favour, though I suppose it's always better to be heading for home.
@RideWithRoy
23 күн бұрын
For the first half we though that, Keith, but it then swung round to a tailwind, so wouldn’t have helped. Also, as you say, the psychological benefits of heading toward home can’t be underestimated.
New to your channel, loved the series it's got me thinking now, I wonder what I could do!
@RideWithRoy

Thanks for watching! I think that most people can do more than they think they can do. It’s just a case of breaking through that psychological barrier. I remember persuading Wendy she could ride 100 miles. She didn’t believe she could, but now she has done several. Keep in touch and let us know what you achieve.

Good coffee shop is that! I did just short of 60 miles on my full sus MTB earlier this week which included some of the route you took, the objective being Collingham and that coffee shop! I was trying to see what saddles you both have as always on the look out for something more comfortable. Well done on the ride.
@RideWithRoy

It is a good coffee shop and ideally situated near the Trent Vale Trail. Our saddles are a relatively cheap Selle Italia Sport Gel Flow, currently £27 on Amazon. I never recommend saddles as they are such a personal taste. I have tried really expensive ones and found them really uncomfortable, but these suit us.
@lmulli

@@RideWithRoy ah ah, I purchased one of those saddles on the recommendation of someone else and didn't get on with it at all. I get what you are saying about them being a personal taste! I'll keep trying though until I find "the one" :-)
Amazing job both of you! I'm half your age but your both absolute heroes and motivators for me. Coast 2 coast (Blackpool to Skegness) next time?
@RideWithRoy

I’m actually leaving at 10pm tomorrow to ride through the night to Skegness and then via Boston to home. It’s 137 miles and Bruce, my ride partner for the trip, is quite fast, so he will need to slow down for me 😀 Wendy isn’t up for night riding and my wife thinks I’m crazy.
What happened to any footage of hull..... 'Ull' east yorkshire.

I can tell you I used it for the next couple of rides, Pete, in fact we were both on e 😀
Great series of videos showing what can be achieved by a couple of buddies riding in the UK. A question though as some of the route seemed to have really sketchy / rough surfaces, did you get any punctures ? Didn't recall any being mentioned, if you didn't what tyres and set up are you using that kept you from having to get the tyre glider out ?
@RideWithRoy
23 күн бұрын
We are both running tubeless and I use Schwalbe G1 Allround. Apart from the rough surfaces, there was a fair bit of broken glass on a path in Middlesborough, but if we picked up punctures we didn’t notice. I actually do whip out the Tyre Glider regularly, but usually to help others 😀

@@RideWithRoy thanks for the information, I am still old school running tubes, which I know and can handle. Running tubeless seems to have massive benefits but also appears to be quite temperamental setting up etc. depending on which videos you watch, maybe I should take the plunge !!
@RideWithRoy
21 күн бұрын
@andrewturnbull7690 I agree that they are difficult to set up Andrew. However, the Fulcrum wheels and Schwalbe Allround tyres I use are designed to make set up easier. Without these I probably wouldn’t have bothered.
Still friends? Did you take any rest days? I think that’s the secret, to take a day off when you feel like quitting
@RideWithRoy
21 күн бұрын
Fortunately we never got to the quitting stage so not building in a rest day worked for us. Any longer and we would have needed one but we feel it would have been harder to get going again.
It’s not cold enough for you to be puncturing!
