Angelina’s manager from the beginning is her uncle Michael Astar. Michael was raised in Japan and music was always his passion. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. As a 16-year old he was a DJ at 21+ night clubs in Oslo, Norway, getting the gigs because he looked older and no one asked his age before being hired. After getting tired of being a DJ, Michael started a music management company in 2013, and 3 months later, with no clients yet, Angelina signed-up to try out for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina’s first audition when 7-years old was a cover of Billie Holiday’s song “Gloomy Sunday” that went viral when it got uploaded to KZread. Then Angelina won Norway’s Got Talent, had other viral KZreads, performed on Norway, US and other TV shows and her career started to take off. Eventually she had over 1 billion views of her performances on KZread and Facebook before Angelina’s appearances on the American’s Got Talent - The Champions show. Her performances there further accelerated her career. At this point, Angelina asked her uncle Michael if it was possible for her to move to the US to pursue her music dreams. Michael says this was a tough call, and he asked himself questions like; how on earth are you going to pull this off? What about a VISA? What about finances? Are you willing to sell everything you have and own, and also get a loan to risk everything? Michael related that “These were questions I had to ask myself, several times a day. Then, I remembered, what did my mom do when she went to Japan? She didn’t even talk Japanese or knew anyone. She did it because she risked everything for a better future.” So, Michael flew alone to Los Angeles, studied and learned anything he could learn from the people he got to know during his time in the Industry. After gathering a bunch of people, he came back to Norway and started the process. He indicated that “A few months later, I told her, PACK YOUR BAGS! We are going next week to pursue your dream! All in baby. Her smile made it all worth the hassle.” “We stayed patient because the way this industry works is bizarre and you have to dodge bullets right and left to get anywhere. But would I do it again? Of course! Life without challenge is boring," Michael says. For Michael, a lot of his time involves talking with industry people, to see what’s happening out there. Having recently become a father and with COVID-19, time has become even busier and more crazy than usual. “There is a lot of stuff happening with Angelina, and it requires daily briefings with a lot of people.” America’s Got Talent had always been interested in bringing Angelina to the show, but with their normal contract, artists are being locked into a label, management, and other things for many years. Michael says that it did not matter if you get exposure or not, it was out of the question to give away that many rights. This kind of patience eventually paid off. Michael said that “Some time passed and they again contacted me, asking if she wanted to sing on their show. I convinced them to give me a contract where Angelina is free from any deal if she performs, she is great for their TV show and Angelina will get the exposure she needs to breakthrough, because I knew, the talent is one of the kind like no other, I just needed her to be seen and was on a daily hunt for how to get the right spot for her in the USA.” After, Angelina’s success on America’s Got Talent, she eventually signed with Republic Records in August 2020 where Angelina was told she was Republic’s highest priority new artist. Michael says the commitment with the right interest in mind has been one of the most important things when choosing a team and partners to be part of Angelina’s team. “You also need to choose someone with the right chemistry. These are the people you have to deal with on a daily basis, you have to have a good feeling and chemistry with the team you choose.” Although no specifics yet, Michael says that the plans for Angelina include going global. Advice from Michael: “Go with your instinct, it never fails, crazy how nature does that. Always be humble, you get way further being a nice person, people tend to be nice back. Always read the contract. Find a good lawyer (It’s super hard to find the good one, but with dedication, you can). Don’t rely on people, you want something done? Do it yourself. If you are good at something, never do it for free (Quote from the Joker).”

I love guessing which "kind" of reaction will be displayed - "will they stop with WHAT? after the 2nd line?" Will they stop after the first line? How long will it take for reactors to say something like, "my mind is blown"? Yet... all the reactors only mimic what I did. I stopped a few times and restarted it. Over and over.

And so go into hysterics - not silly, not wacky - but almost like a pressure valve. "I am soooo blown away that I gotta hysterically laugh." At the end, this reactor goes from hysterical disbelief grins into a face of resignation - his face just 'gives up' and relaxes into a 'normal' face. I like all of his 'faces'.

Angelina's initial performance at 7 years old on Norway's Got Talent (NGT) singing Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday went viral worldwide with over 5M views at the time. By the time she did this performance she had already traveled in Europe, Asia and America singing on stage for many children's charities and dignitaries. The Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2014 singing What A Wonderful World at 8 years old to a huge outdoor gathering for Save The Children is one of my faves. Her performances singing I'll Be There, At Last, Fly Me To The Moon and What A Difference A Day Makes are all spectacular. The one performance that is even more shocking to me is "FEELING GOOD, Live on the Stream Gir Tilbake" on stage with a full jazz orchestra and televised live to a national TV audience in Norway at 10 years old. I truly appreciate the respect you have shown to this once in a generation super talent. You understand just how remarkable and special Angelina's artistry is. Great Reaction!!!!!

She recorded this at age 9. What put her on the map were her three Jazz songs she sang on Norway’s Got Talent at ages 7-8. I suggest you watch those in the long versions with English subtitles. At the beginning she hands her arrangement to the music director and that’s her grandmother who hands her the candle with the face of Screamin Jay Hawkins who wrote the song in 1956. You should watch his black and white performance to see where Angelina got her inspiration.

It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). "Screamin" Jay Hawkins original "I put A Spell on You" kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaaC0qpvmdzVm6w.html You really need to include the link in the description to the original video so Angelina gets views. Also, if you had the opportunity to react to this with the 9yo Angelina right in front of you, would you use such unnecessary language? I hope not.

Actually, Angelina's breakout occurred at age 7, more than a year before she recorded this version of "I Put A Spell On You." This happen when she competed on Norway's Got Talent in 2014. She won that competition, receiving 46% of the viewers' votes. (The remaining votes were split across the 9 other finalists.) One or more of her performances went viral at the time. Here's the list of songs in the order Angelina performed them in the competition. (1) Gloomy Sunday - in the style of Billie Holiday (This performance definitely went viral) (2) I'm A Fool To Want You (acapella) - in the style of Billie Holiday (3) Bang, Bang (You Shot Me Down) - in the style of Nancy Sinatra (possibly went viral) (4) Summertime - by George Gershwin Pick out anything that intrigues you. Use subtitled versions where available. Thank you for your enthusiastic support for Angelina. There is still much more of the WOW factor for you to discover. Enjoy your journey down the Angelina rabbit hole.

Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina speaks 3 languages, designs her own clothes, and has written a very popular book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) a story about why she wears no shoes during her performances, and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent she started the competition at 7 years old and won at 8 years old. Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina writes her own music and produces it. Angelina's mother is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The artist grandmother (Mery Zamani) on her mother's side is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) is from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather. Although Angelina didn't win AGT champions 2021 she was signed to Republic record label and is producing new music 7th Heaven, Million Miles, Save the world shes on her way to a world market that I'm sure she'll dominate.

Now that you are part of the Jordan spell, you must react to a song she wrote for her recently departed (at that time), much loved grandfather. She also has dedicated the song to all who have experienced personal loss. She wrote the song at 12 or 13 yo. There are two exceptional videos of "Million Miles". One is the lyric version with art work by her grandmother, who is a renowned Iranian artist, and the other is a b/w version of her doing the song live in a studio with just a piano and a cello player. The pain in her soul jumps out at you. Amazing artistry.

Here's the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaaC0qpvmdzVm6w.html (you might watch it and see if you agree that AJ's version is actually better!). And Angelina is comfortable with this arrangement because it's HER arrangement! Those notes she handed the director at the beginning of the video were some last-minute "wishes" (as she put them) for things she wanted the band to do. Angelina's Angels (fans) often offer this video as "Exhibit 1" to support our claims that she's a true vocal prodigy!

One of her great accomplishments is her ability to not only arrange her music, she also has the musical knowledge to arrange the music of the band. That was what she handed the band manager, the adjustments she required the band members to make. She is literally a child prodigy. The band members call her the 'Boss'.

Great reaction, but it started way before that, check out her songs she sang on Norway's Got Talent, where from the first audition she carried 45% of the votes until the end when she won. She entered at the age of 7, turned 8 before it ended, but is recorded as a 7 year entry! It's a performance like my brain doesn't compute! God Bless!

Tom, great job as always. Thank you. One of the things I like about this song is her perfectly timed body contortions. They are beautiful and totally appropriate for the power that this song demands. I've heard several voice coaches comment that, to some degree, she is making adjustments on the fly. How they know this - I haven't got a clue but, if it is true, it makes me wonder what kind of prodigy we have here. She is not perfect in this song but no one has done it better.

What she did vocally at 6:56 that you commented on is called an ascending and descending run. You are completely right about the difficulty. Normally it takes much practice, training and especially vocal maturity to be able to maintain such beautiful tone and pitch while singing either an ascending or descending run. That she chose to pair them back to back shows almost unheard of control for a NINE year old!!! That’s not anything I’ve ever heard a child sing before. It’s simply mind boggling to me. Gives me goosebumps every single time!😍

You're right, this is not just simple pop style, very complex. Pretty much opera style, interesting because Screaming J Hawkins, the picture on the candle she shows at beginning, was opera trained but never allowed on stage (black man in the 1950's), and wrote and performed this as a mocking parody of opera.

Altogether these following performances show that whether rehearsal, on TV, live concert or studio, Angelina pretty much gives stellar performance. They also show maturing of her voice and slight changes Angelina made in her performance of this song from when 9-year old to 12-year old: ---- you reacted to this video when Angelina as 9-year old did studio performance of I Put A Spell On You. Incredible as sounds much older than she was at time. The link again: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKt6ztF8gLvgc9Y.html) ---- as 11-year old (there is Little Big Stars German TV show performance that shows significant growth in her voice: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3WH09iLd9eaZs4.html) ---- as 11-year old (there is live performance of I Put A Spell On You that is amazing. This performance was bonus song for audience at Muse in City festival, in Seoul, South Korea. Angelia had finished her set, there was long interval before Norah Jones was to start her set. Norah asked if Angelina could give them one more song, so she came back and did this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eomI3Luhd7SrprA.html) ---- as 12-year old (there is Angelina singing I Put A Spell On You at 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway that is 3 years after original studio recording. Notice how her voice had matured. Unfortunately, this is only an audio recording with some brief video of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, original singer of song, at beginning and picture slides of original video recording overlaid into this new video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJh6zMOjeKmnf6Q.html) ---- as 12-year old (there is rehearsal version of I Put A Spell On You for 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway: kzread.info/dash/bejne/notsyZeKnbeyiZM.html)

Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019. Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to Jazz at early age. Mery is famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also child prodigy herself being on Radio Iran's Children program at age 4 and began writing poetry and painting by age of 9. Later Mery was trained in art at Tokyo Academy in Japan where she met her husband, who was Japanese, during her master degree's training in Japan. There is nine year old video showing some of Mery's artwork in home setting: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m22C2rpppLbQg5M.html ---- Mery has KZread channel that supports Angelina called Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mosarz: kzread.info/dron/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig.html. There are lots of videos in it that could only have been taken by insider or family member. Mery is also widely known under artist alias name Mosarz ---- Mery illustrated book that Angelina wrote ("Mellom to hjerter" that translates to Between Two Hearts) and was published in November 2015 when Angelina was 9 years-old and became youngest published author in Norway. Book based on Angelina's notes in her diary/notebooks and describes her meeting with shoeless girl. Podcast was published by Angelina’s publisher, Cappelen Damm, in 2015. In it Angelina talks with Erling Kittelsen, Norwegian author and poet and friend of family, about her book. Angelina tells of her understanding with little girl that Angelina will not wear shoes when she performs and that little girl will pray for Angelina. During pauses in talk, we hear small extracts from book which should be on children's reading list: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKRqy65yaJy2j5s.html There are three published Angelina videos created and directed by Mery: ---- Fly Me To The Moon (as 10-year old. She is riding bike and comes across sad girl crying and stops to see what is wrong. You will have to watch video to see what happens next: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lICpsLNvo5rMc7Q.html) ---- Shield [as 12-year old, Angelina wrote this song. As 13-year old, Mery did artistic video of Angelina performing song: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2yDpcR6nNXFZJs.html. As 12-year old, performed on very popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan (2.5 to 3 million viewers per show): kzread.info/dash/bejne/noWot8SPe8WWptY.html] [In interview (changes to English at about 0:36 mark) before Angelina sung on Skavlan, paraphrasing, she said that when she sings she goes into endless other world that is full of happiness. She said that song Shield is about someone you love and whose strong love protects you wherever you are. Angelina said song's sound was inspired by Bond films. Her favorite Bond film songs are Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger. She sings few bars of Diamonds Are Forever a cappella. She said that highlight of her career was singing for Quincy Jones' 85th birthday concert in London. I heard AJ described as a vocal chameleon. If you watch studio recordings from this period when she's speaking in her "natural" voice, she sounds like a little girl. Then she starts singing and you are transported to another age and another singer with Angelina's particular spin. One reactor pointed out that the whistle tone that is so impressive is something all young girls have in their repertoire. that high pitched shriek. It's interesting that when she was older, she didn't do that when performing this song. Great reaction, Tom. Look forward to your future reactions.
