Angelina has the capability to bring us the old songs and make them all new and shiny. I cannot think of another artist that does this as consitently and successful as AJ. We're all so lucky to be here for it :)

No loud band, no light show, no dancers, just two instruments to accompany the MAGIC that Angelina Jordan brings like no one else can. At 7 she was killing us, at 16 she is taking us places we have never been. What a glorious production, praise to everyone involved, so perfect for Angelina Jordan she rules the universe with her talent. Again, the great talent of Rob Christie playing the piano. The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE, Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and AJ's voice has been unique since she was 7 years old and now at 16, she controls us as an audience, leaving us hang on every word and phrase

This is a cover of a cover as the original artist didn’t achieve with his version, then Elvis covered the song and it was a huge no 1 hit, there’s no proof Elvis ever wrote a song himself, and he couldn’t read or write music, although Elvis was a great performer and had an amazing ear for music, he had a team of talented song writers , and Elvis record company insisted that he claimed 50 percent royalties on any song he sang, which in them days meant Elvis can put his name too any song without writing anything, anyway great reaction thanks 🙏 Angelina absolutely amazing cover she is so special, the first two little girls in the video are Angelina’s cousins her managers children, the eldest girl sitting in the chair is Angelina’s beautiful sister Juliette, production input from Angelina’s grandma who is a talented artist, love how Angelina incorporates her family in this beautiful performance!

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

Very nice reaction! Her Grandma Mery helped produced this. She used the same store she used for her My Funny Valentine video. Her sister Juliette was the older girl in this and the 2 younger girls are her Uncle Mike's kids. 2- time Grammy winner Rob Christie is on piano once again. The beehive hairstyle was to honor Priscilla Presley and the time period she met Elvis The black suit and red guitar was a classic look for Elvis. What a performance and homage to The King! Angelina - The diamond vocal!

Yes, many symbolisms. The hairstyle is what Priscilla Presley wore. The black leather outfit and the red guitar are a tribute to what Elvis wore on his comeback tour. The piano starts as Angelina is removing the dusty cover (dusting old songs). Her baby cousin represents the innocence that we are all born with. Her other cousin running around and looking up represents the curiosity and bewilderment of discovering new things. Her sister Juliette looking regal sitting on an antique chair represents the hope and the dreams of what of what and where she wants to be (The Queen of Music on her Throne). And then Angelina as a 16 years old looking like a rock star as if she is saying: I arrived and I belong here with the best. These are my interpretations. She was amazing at any age and amazingly each time she gets better and better and better. She does come in strong and it hits you. With the arrangement, the clear piano and her voice, her melancholy she makes you feel the sadness where loves is destroyed by distrust. She makes me really hear the story. Elvis performance is magnificent and I still love it, his tone of voice makes me wonder how distraught he was being caught in an inescapable trap. Still an iconic performance. The visuals are beautiful as well. Her cousins and her sister give me the impression of her growing up as well. She pulls the covers of beautiful pieces of the past. And than there is all the Elvis’ imagery with her Priscilla hairdo, the red guitar, the black leather suit and also Rob Christie’s suit (the guy doing an wonderful job at the piano) fits the era. After I hear a new masterful Angelina performance as this one, I go back to listen to early Angelina, and I find her journey uniquely circular. While listening to this, I immediately say today ‘this is her best performance’, but then when I listen to something from the early years, amazingly she sounds just as masterful but different.

Angelina is easily the most accomplished child vocalist of all time. For me, she is my favorite singer storyteller, able to take songs I have heard numerous times and make me feel like I am hearing it for the first time. If you have not already done so, please provide links to the original video and Angelina's channels, and encourage fans to watch, like, comment, and subscribe to those links, as you suggest they do for your own channel. This creates equal priority for artists and reactors. There are already a few hundred reaction channels following these guidelines. For your benefit, this should increase subscriptions from fan loyalty. This is my favorite Angelina performance, and the most aesthetically beautiful music video Ever! (IMO) Kudos to Mery's design, Cole's direction, and Rob's wonderful piano accompanyment. The applified reverb is the best I have ever heard; gives her voice depth and power, and makes it warm and rich. And of course, Angelina's vocal is truly STUNNING!! My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

Angelina begins this song with the bridge, so many reactors don't recognize it until the "We're caught in a trap" part. The Fine Young Cannibals did the same thing in their popular cover of this song in the mid-80s. That might be the one you're thinking of. I remember the more upbeat and produced original when it first came out, but I'll remember Angelina's more simple version now.

Yes, I believe you quickly nailed the symbolism of the children showing Angelina's growth through the years from babyhood (literally!), to toddler, to preteen to now, immersed in and surrounded by the great classics (represented by the antique shop). The baby and toddler are the children of her Uncle/Manager Michael Astar (hence, they are her cousins); the young girl is Juliette, her sister who, apparently, is headed toward being as much of a beauty as Angelina. If you saw in the credits, the Executive Producer of this video is her Grandma Meri Zamani, who was the one instrumental in introducing Angelina to the classics from infancy onward. Without Meri's influence, there likely would be no "ANGEL-ina" walking and singing among us today!

john While Mery has been a major influence on Angelina and her music, we must recognize someone else that Angelina credits as having had an enormous impact: “I have to say if it wasn’t for the unconditional love that came from Billie Holiday’s legendary music, there would not be Angelina Jordan today. I am very blessed today that her music found me very early,” she says (in an interview with American Songwriter).

I was just referring to Meri (and Sara of course) as the ones with whom Angelina was/is actually living, and their direct, personal, integrative influence on her. I conjecture that, if Meri had not had Billie Holiday's songs in her collection, and had never exposed Angelina to Billie, then Angelina would never have had context to make that statement. So, yes, Billie was the force, Meri was the catalyst, Angelina is the result.

It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on KZread before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed... I'm talking about jazz queen Billie Holiday. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song". - Angelina Jordan (age 8) People don't give Angelina the credit she deserves for her own initiative for her discovery of the jazz greats. Her grandmother may have introduced her to jazz but Angelina took the reins from there and has been the master of her own destiny.

You’ve missed a lot since your last reaction to Angelina. I think you’d recognize the original Elvis version, but Angelina gives us her take, as she always does-and it’s a new song even though there are many nods to Elvis. You mentioned her opening-yes, I believe Angelina gives extra thought to how she can captivate us completely in the first couple notes of just about anything she sings. And after that opening, you’re hooked, intoxicated, mesmerized. This is beautiful, but not unusual for her. You need to start listening again. Try her recent cover of My Funny Valentine for one of the best jazz voices you’ve ever heard. The best child singer ever is now the best singer, period.

The children are all relatives, the first two cousins and the third is her sister. The video is a tribute to Elvis with all the golden articles, the ever present mirrors of his life, the wealth and extravagance symbolized with the chandeliers, his black leather suit we saw in his 1968 Comeback Special along with his red guitar and his Priscilla's hair style of that time. She pulls the cover to dust off this classic, his last singles hit of his life. The first line projected her deep throaty rendition that allows us to almost hear him. I felt the children represented her own growth when she was listening to her iconic mentors, including Elvis. They and he helped develop her voice. But much of her video arrangements are highly interpretive, very artistic and creative. And her excellent and still maturing voice and presence providing the substance that pulls it together. This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Multiple people have speculated the two young cousins, sister, (all three in white dresses as Angelina typically wore during performances while growing up) and Angelina appearing in order of age and the similarities in gestures during the camera transitions is a statement of Angelina’s coming of age on the eve of her summer concert tour and pending new album release.

WOW is the best adjective to describe Angelina Jordan. Good to see you back with all of us AJ supporters. Elvis sang his cover version much more upbeat and it was his last top charting song done in 1969. Angelina revamps the arrangement to bring out the true emotional feeling of the story. I love your reactions. After hearing "Suspicious Minds" many many dozens of times, I believe Angelina's story is this. It's all about how his suspicious mind has harmed her love for him. In the beginning, she has such an overwhelming love for him that it was like being trapped, without even the ability to walk away. She asks him why doesn't he see what he's doing to her, as the children, symbolic for her heart, continue to age. As her heart is harmed by his continued distrust, she can, and will, walk away from him if he continues to believe she's lying to him. Even though she still loves him, she won't stick around for him to completely kill what remains of her heart.

There's a lot of symbolism in this production. I can even detect some Elvis-like colors in her vocals. For me the kids represent innocence and family, the things that are destroyed by jealousy, then again maybe they were babysitting and Angelina just wanted them included.

The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along). Great reaction! You may have heard the cover by Fine Young Cannibals before. Became quite popular. But this song can't be performed ANY better than what Angelina just did. She is a genius. And the greatest female singer alive today IMO. Kathrine Angeltveit has uploaded quite a few of her performances from the minitour she did here in Norway. Well everyone may be reading too much into this with the children. But what I do know is the two youngest children are the children of Angelina‘s uncle, and the older girl sitting in the chair smiling in the white dress is Angelina‘s younger sister Juliette Slattman, it’s interesting that Angelina’s name is Angelina Jordan Astar and her sister has a different last name, I wonder why? It’s very confusing. What I do know is Angelina‘s grandfather on her mother Sara’s side was Japanese and Angelina‘s grandmother on her mother side is Persian or Iranian and Angelina‘s father is Swedish, which makes Angelina Swedish, Japanese and Persian, and being born in Norway makes her a Norwegian citizen. Angelina likes to sometimes include and share her family in some of her videos which she has done in the past for no particular reason.
