No one can fault Michael's singing, but he sang this with a bright poppy tone that wasn't very emotionally charged while Angelina sang it with more gravity and with a tone that gave the sense of an intimate message imploring us to make the world a better place. With this taken into account, I feel that Angelina's interpretation of the song was better than MJ's original.

As you can tell her music is more on the softer side. As a child she didn't do mainstream music but instead she studied and covered a lot of jazz standards. She's considered one of the most talented child/teen singers nowadays, she's one of the few artists that don't need any autotune or special effects, she has proved it many times live on TV. As you've noticed her tone is incomparably rich, warm and breathy (already at that age!), most people who listen to her voice are moved instantly like you've experienced first-hand.

Another great summary of Angelina Jordan's musical career! :-) But - I'm on a little "expedition" to make these summaries as correct as possible, which I believe is your wish also. There are two common errors in most of these summaries: 1) She was 8 already at the first audition of the NGT. I have done some research, and I have clear evidences that she performed on the audition in Oslo. And I have also clear evidences that the audition in Oslo took place on January 25th 2014 (aired on February 7th). Thus there can be no doubt that she was 8 years 15 days at her performing of "Gloomy Sunday". Yes, I know that she herself said that she was 7, but that can't be! - I can imagine many explanations to why she missed on her age, and I have written a "novel" of that in another comment. - When there is a choice of either believing news articles, Wikipedia articles and videos confirming she was 8, or believing a person about to perform for a great audience for the first time probably forgetting the recently change of her age just then and there, - I will stick to the documents! (These are posted in another comment, so if you want them, I can post them here as well, but I warn you: It's a long reading! ;-) ) 2) The videos of Angelina performing in front of the Nobel Peace Prize winners is marked wrongly. The Nobel Peace Prize Concert is one of several events in connection with the awarding of the Peace Price. The name NPPC is specifying the great concert held indoors in the evening with top names of Norway and the world hosted by stars from the music and movie industry. In 2014 Angelina was performing on another event called "Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration" (Redd Barnas Fredsprisfest), an event hosted by children, with a program directed towards children and with mostly children in the audience. This event was held outdoors at noon and the Peace Prize winners attended for half an hour during the program. Angelina sang twice, before the arrival of the winners, and when the VIPs (including the Crown Princess of Norway and her two children) were present. But that was not the Nobel Peace Prize Concert! It's also important that the event was for Save the Children which I supported for an number of years. As far as the age thing, does it really matter?

Perhaps I'm too much of a perfectionist, concerned about getting things right even if it is insignificant details not in any way altering what Angelina is and what she stands for. - But there is one thing that does matter (and now I am more general): Too many people accept things they have seen or heard as truth without checking the sources. And when they spread the stories to others, and often adds their own interpretation about it, it can cause severe damage to themselves and their surroundings on a wide range. Perhaps that is why I am often thinking: "How do you know this?" when i am reading comments spreading rumours as facts. And when I have proof that the statement is wrong, it is tempting to make people aware of that. I know I will myself appreciate any correction based on undisputable facts - or other meanings about disputable ones. But again. That is my opinion. "Our" young star has her own life and career going, and her life at 8 is probably just memories from long ago and of no importance. I am more concerned about some tendencies to making her a super human (doing all her arrangements, being the boss of every band, giving all her money to charity, being so pure ... and so on ..). People's expectations can be hard to live with. She is still 15 and should be allowed to be a normal teenager with a lot of space to make mistakes, needing assistance and doing "stupid" things like all 15 yo girls (and boys). Perhaps this is the root of my attempts to getting things right. Small details may not matter, but many details put together can make a difference - one way or another.

Angelina has a way of bringing out the meaning of a song, like no other singer

Don't worry Tom, she can make a rock cry. Her voice is angelic & addicting, but what sets her apart from other amazing singers is her ability to emote the lyrics so you really hear them for the 1st time & you feel them down to your bones. She can belt with the best of them, but she doesn't do it unless it is needed in a song, not just to show off, like many singers do. She usually uses the soft, breathy, emotional route, but with notable exceptions that are real bangers. She is the total package, she "paints" vocal masterpieces with her voice, she's a musician, songwriter, song arranger, humanitarian & now at 15, she is a statuesque (6'1") beautiful young woman. yeah... there is just something so angelic to her as a singer.. as a human .. She still gets me in my feels even though i have heard her stuff so many times .... As a bricklayer, i was as tough as the rest of them .. even the barefoot story makes me weep when i read/hear it .. and i know it inside out.. so why does it still get to me...

Your down the Angelina rabbit hole Amazing.

Her recent cover of Adele's "All I Ask" (which came up as the suggested next video at the end of this one) isn't a bad choice for a second reaction. She absolutely slays that one, too. Of course, IMO she slays the vast majority of her covers, but whatever… [grin] I don't know what kind of singers or songs you like personally, but she has enough variety in her covers that almost anyone can find something in there that intrigues them (as this one did with you - I suspect you will find several other titles in her catalog that will, shall we say, raise an eyebrow). And her handful of originals are similarly varied. I'll let others list those. (I'm sure multiple commenters already have.) Some reacters try to avoid the stuff from when she was _really_ young (like, below 10), because they "don't care for child singers". If you are at all hesitant about that, I can assure you, while her singing voice has, of course, developed quite a bit over the years, she has always sounded much older than she actually is (often sounding about twice as old, IMO). And in terms of singing with emotion (or with feeling, or however you want to put it), her ability to do that has also pretty much always been years beyond her chronological age. (Hell, I think you can see her singing with feeling in her very first recorded vocal performance at 1½! But don't worry about that for now. [You'll see it eventually.]) You were affected by the emotion she put into this performance at 15. Imagine being just as affected by one of her performances at, say, 8. That is a distinct possibilty… (And BTW, regarding the maturity of the sound of her voice, I should point out that by the time she turned 11, she already had essentailly the same voice she does now. There's a noticeable difference in the sound of her voice before she turned 10 and after she turned 11, but since then I would say most of the development in her singing - and there has been quite a bit - has been in the area of "technique".) Anyway… yeah, so all of that is to say: she's been _ridiculously_ good for a _really_ long time, so don't be shy about delving into her early stuff. If you're wondering how you're going to know what her "early stuff" is before you watch it, a lot of people list her age along with their recommendations (since that's usually the first thing people ask when they hear her sing ["How old was she here??"]), but also there's an extensive playlist of a lot (but not all) of her best stuff in chronological order on Rusty Shackleford's channel [exact title: "Angelina Jordan Live, Through the Years (Chronological)"], which you can use to sample performances from different parts of her career. Several of the videos have her age in the title. For those that list the year, just remember she was born in January 2006. (On the 10th, to be specific.)

Angelina Jordan is an angel. Her voice is incredible and she has sometimes been called an "old soul' due to her soulful singing and style that evokes the spirit of jazz classics. Love her! i have said on multiple reaction channels that i hope the music industry does not get their grubby little hands on her and ruin her. So far, so good! I just find it most interesting when other reactors to AJ make the statement that she knows how to pick a song that suits her voice. At that point you understand they have not explored her other performances, if they had, they would know she has no boundaries. AJ takes any song, no matter what the genre and make it her own.
