Hi people, AJ is singing earnestly since age of 4 when she enlisted at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts Oslo/Norway. As you know she won Norway Gots Talent in 2014 at 7/8 yo. Sang live at hundreds of charity shows including a show in Seoul/Korea at the age of 11 in front of more than forty thousand people just before NORA JONES came on stage. AJ was at that time at Japan visiting her maternal grandpa's relatives and giving interviews in Japanese. Yes you read right. Thank you for your genuine reaction. Here is an introduction to Angelina for you and your viewers who might not be familiar with her. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. This performance went viral, same as her first performance at 7 years old with Gloomy Sunday. If you think she sounds to old for her age you must try a fan fave "FEELING GOOD, Live on the Stream Gir Tilbake" at 10 with a great band. You will not believe what you are hearing. Of course by 10, she had already performed on stage before thousands in Europe, Asia and America. She has several original songs including "What is Life" written at 11 and performed at 12, "Oslo" written at 12, "Shield" Co-written at 12, Her first release with Republic Records "Million Miles" written and performed at 14 and "7th Heaven" co-written and performed at 15. Well she was 7-8 years old when she won Norway's Got Talent. She started singing at a year and half old. There is little doubt she is a prodigy, the way she learns and controls the music she chooses. She really concentrated on Jazz and old style music when she was very young and has developed a unique sound because of that . She's super talented and has a ton of covers on YT.

She literally "owns" this arrangement of the song, she wrote it, copyrighted it & recorded it on her independent label at the time, Angelina Jordan, Inc. Now she is signed with Republic Records of UMG. BTW, Queen loved it!

This recording, which differs from the live version, especially at the end, is available on one of Angelina's KZread channels ... as far as I know, the same is not true of her version of Yellow Brick Road in the same competition, which seems to follow the Sara Bareilles cover (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ga6YlMyaZ9Cnl7A.html&ab_channel=SaraBareillesVEVO) quite closely. Angelina's voice at 7yo was so mature that when she sang on "Norway has Talent" her performance went viral on the web. Million people worldwide couldn't believe what they were hearing coming out of a tiny little girl including me! To answer your question "how old is Angelina was when she sang "Rhapsody"? She came in shared 6th 😊 Out of 10 finalists, 5 went through in a 1 to 1 setup. The other 5 shared the next place. Angelina "lost" to Marcelito Pomeroy.

You should watch her version of screaming Jay Hawkins "I put a spell on you" 1954. She was 9yr2mth old when recorded. Greatest technical display of singing by a 9yr old I've ever seen.

If your mind's are blown at age Thirteenth, wait till you hear her cover Whitney Houston's "I Who Have Nothing" at age six. As for original songs, she has five to date. I highly recommend "Million Miles" and "Seventh Heaven", though all are amazing.

Actually, "I Who Have Nothing" is a Tom Jones cover. She did cover Whitney's "I Have Nothing." Similar titles make it confusing.

You should listen to AJ (age 10 at the time) and KORK (KORK= the Norwegian Radio Orchestra), and Amy Winehouse's "Back to black". A really beautiful rendition. As somebody else commented on another reaction to that song; "Not only does she has her own orchestra, this orchestra is one of the most sought after and respected in Norway. KORK is financed and operated by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) and many grown up artist will envy Angelina for having the opportunity to work with them." The story is that she had to rewrite the lyrics because her mom thought the lyrics were inappropriate for a kid. On the day the song was recorded she was in amusementpark with some friends, and after that she went to play with what maybe is Norways most famous and professional orchestra. The rendition is simply just fantastic.

Just quick like: if you want a longer solo young person doing a cover of Bohemian, watch Connie Talbot’s version. Connie won AGT as a child. But getting back to Angelina, her birthday is 1/10/06 I believe. She started NGT at 7 and the final version aired when she was 8. Similarly, at the beginning of AGT she was 13 and the show completed, again after her birthday, when she was newly 14. I think that what trips people up is that after NGT, she had a couple of world tours , in one concert in Asia she performed before 40,000 people. She has been performing In concerts during the gap between GT’s, actually many. Over the years she raised millions for poor kids and environmental causes. She has videos of her covers, performances and rehearsals on KZread, as you know, adding up to more than 125. She has several she wrote pre and post signing with Republic Records. And an album. So, at 13, standing 6 feet tall, years of performing before audiences, she was indeed confident on stage. Indeed, she said she was “excited”.

Yes Sarah, Winnie from Wonder Years. And this is not the regular AGT, but the second season of AGT The Champions run in Jan/Feb. The entire competition was recorded in under a week in October 2019, and shown early Jan/Feb, by which time Angelina was 14. Nice reaction, keep them coming. Ps. She was 13, but a Norwegian 13, you know from the land of vikings so she's tall. Also she's been singing jazz since she was 1 and a half (not hyperbole, there's video on KZread of her singing Jazz at 1 and a half.) so she sounds older because of that jazzy rasp she devoleped. She's wonderful really, not just because of her singing but because of her mentality and attitude.

She won Norway’s Got Talent at 7 , in 2014, so she was already a talented singer back then. She then had 6 more years to improve on that, which is almost twice as old as she was then. In addition to that, I think her musical influences are a big factor on her singing. Iirc, her audition song for NGT, when she was 7, was a song by Billie Holiday, so she is probably influenced more by old time blues and jazz singers, rather than modern pop artists. Likely that is how she learned to do those amazing runs.
