Hello, I'm not really important or anything but since I got curious about what Misophonia is and tried to search (very surface level research) and also since you specifically said asmr will trigger you; may I ask from your personal experience, will you still be triggered if the video was on full blast speaker phone and you weren't wearing headphones or does it still trigger the Misophonia? When it's on speaker mode, will the Misophonia become unnoticed, like do the brain silence/blur specific noise to help you cope? (just personally got curious on the extent of connection between hearing the sound and the triggering part of it) I really just got curious cause it's my first time hearing of the word. If any of the questions is annoying or rude or insensitive please tell me so that I can delete it and not bother you anymore. Thank you. @@julesgenrev6574 omg that’s not rude at all! i’ll gladly answer any questions you have and it actually warms my heart that you’re interested!! misophonia is quite a new term that is very under-researched, but for all scientists know, it’s a real condition. some say it’s psychological, some say it’s neurological, or both (it’s all the same lowkey), some suspect it might be a small part of some type of bigger sensory processing disorder that may affect other senses as well, both me and my psychologist agree that’s definitely my case. most people would find certain sounds annoying, especially chewing noises or maybe even whispering, a baby crying etc. the emotion they feel is annoyance and it fades once the sound is gone. with misophonia, you may get triggered from completely every-day noises, and the emotional reaction is anxiety (mental and physical), a need to run away, and an overall fight/flight/freeze type of response in your nervous system that can sometimes linger even after the noise is gone, and usually requires some type of coping mechanism. it feels like there’s electricity inside me, and personally also throws me down a spiral of feelings of worthlessness (which i’ve read is common) because i can’t just tell people to stop doing completely normal things, that would make me seem “rude”, and i feel like i require too much and am a burden on others. also had panic attacks several times when triggered and coped with s*lf h*rm (generally started because of depression, and now is just how i’m used to coping). i also get visual triggers (which are already known to be part of misophonia) which means that if i see someone chewing or tapping for example, even if i can’t hear them bc they’re far away/i’m wearing earphones, i can still feel triggered. it affects my daily function because i constantly have to get away from triggers, have earphones with me, and think about what kind of noises i’ll encounter when going anywhere and how i’ll cope... loud noises affect me just as much as quiet ones, but using earphones might make it a little worse because the sound is more detailed and doesn’t kinda ..fade into the air? it really is an interesting topic and sadly not much research has been done, but some progress is being made and there’s a bit more awareness! in case you’re interested, there’s a youtube channel that i discovered lately, which is called misophonia international that has educational videos on the topic that felt very accurate to me from what i’ve seen so far! i’m currently seeing a psychologist because i have depression, anxiety and ocd tendencies too (saying this because the symptoms might be slightly related in my fucked up brain), i’m generally very sensitive and my senses have always been very, very sharp (a blessing and a curse lol) so i’m used to some of these symptoms, like they’re not news to me, and i just started working on it with him through exposure therapy, slowly, in a safe space. we don’t know much about it since recovery methods have yet to be found, but we’re doing our best. just adding that connections between ocd and misophonia were thought to happen but there isn’t enough evidence to make a clear statement about it. though i still feel like to get the full picture of the condition, talking to the people who actually experience it will give you the best sense of understanding. hope this wasn’t too long, i could literally go on about this for such a long time.. you’re also important!! thank you for your curiosity, it’s incredible ❤️
