Hey guys! Is a .016 gap considered to be on the tight side? My machinist recommended setting my gap for my top ring to .028” and 2nd ring to .032. Should I be worried about blow-by with these gaps? RB26, flex fuel, roughly 30psi on 2618 Manley 86.5mm slugs. Multiplier on their box was .008 x bore diameter at 30psi…just don’t want blow by ☹️

.028 is a bit on the larger side, but they are probably running on the side of caution. Blow by depends on more than just gaps, cylinder wall finish, taper, and O/R come into play as well as cylinder wall strength. Minor blow by is not a major concern as long as you have good crank case ventilation. We've had success with .016 on builds similar to this, and .018/.028 on up to 1000hp. it also depends how good of control you have over cylinder Temps!

@@boost.factory thank you for steering me in the right direction! Could I run these gaps on a street car running on ethanol? Or would you suggest starting over and running something tighter? All my other clearances are great, hone cross hatch pattern degree and grit size used are also good. I’m more concerned of seeing a fair bit of smoke on decel for the entire life of using this engine, and I’d want to do it right while I have it still opened up

What's the reason for the extra 8thou. Is it because of you cylinder clearance.

.004- .008” extra clearance on the 2nd ring is to reduce the chance of ring flutter between the 1st and 2nd compression rings
