    You don't need fuses and actually shouldn't use fuses the way you do with lead acid. Any decent lithium battery will have it's own standalone battery management system (BMS) and it is just something else for the current to pass through. I'm sure you know by now but the stock connectors, mismatched gauge extra wire and those wire nuts all draw away from your responsiveness and defeat, even if only a little bit the purpose of the li-ion upgrade and expensive gold plated connectors. I'm sure you know but maybe you don't, also NEVER use the factory lead acid charger on the li-ion battery either. Again, it has BMS and isn't necessarily the danger but explosion is possible and it DEFINITELY will significantly shorten the life of battery. But.. I'm sure you're aware and fixed this but people watching need to know so they don't roast their expensive new pack that came with instructions but they're all in Chinese 😂 Pair a brushless motor with the li-ion to see maximum gain. This will provide some responsiveness but loses much of it's benefit in the junk wiring as discussed and mostly because the brushes have their limitations. Lithium ion batteries work because they are highly unstable and while it's not difficult to tend them, there are specific rules that will keep you from getting hurt. Most battery packs for this bike are at least 30 individual 18650 cells and just the metal casing making contact to another or dead short past the BMS is likely to make it explode and the other 29+ are sure to follow causing horrific burns, in a matter of milliseconds. Look up vape explosion, most of those are 1-3(not 30-40!)of the very same cells encased in metal body vape rigs and literally will turn someone's jaw, hand or any other extremity close enough into a pink mist. Best case scenario is fire/explosion and horrible chemical burns which are very, very painful. All of this can be avoided if you do your homework and DON'T use household wire nuts or butt connectors, or anything else that could possibly come loose or you run the risk of putting your most sensitive parts right in the line of danger. Believe me not worth saving the money or saving a few minutes. I'm sure the vid maker won't like this comment but it was irresponsible on their behalf to not mention ANY of this and more than that, send his own kid out like this because either they didn't do their research, or worse, realized and didn't care enough to take the time to do it correctly, then make an informational install showing how, so I don't really care. Please, take the proper safety precautions, helmets, proper maintenance and install of all components but especially lithium ion cells they are NOT as forgiving as lead acid and those fuses WON'T help your testicles from getting blown off and you'll really regret it when you find out there wasn't much benefit.

    Hi Tim, can I install the new battery also without the voltmeter? Since it has a BMS it should shut off the battery when it gets too low. Is that correct?

  • @TimArmbruster

    @TimArmbruster

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes for sure. The volt meter is for convenience. Because of the BMS and nature of lithium batteries, it will just cut off without much of a dip in power. So, unlike the lead acid it will leave you stranded without much warning. If you know the BMS cutoff voltage, and watch the voltage with the volt meter, you can avoid getting stranded. That's why I installed, but technically not necessary.

    @@TimArmbruster How difficult is it to install a variable speed throttle on a razor scooter? I'd like to install one on my razor pocket mod scooter because the stock throttle is a bit to fast for my liking but don't want to have to swap out the speed controller to do so. Do you have to change the speed controller in order to use a variable speed throttle or can you just swap out the stock throttle grip and it's good to go? I've only driven it once in the three weeks since I bought it after having a low speed wipeout my first time driving it and to be honest I'm quite scared to get back on it again as that thing goes pretty fast at a top speed of 15 MPH.

    Holding up perfectly .. I haven't seen any performance degradation since installing. Range, yes, is significantly better than lead acid. We probably get about 2 hours of ride time riding at track. Hard to say because we literally have never run the battery completely down. Regarding Hills / Speed / power .. for this upgrade there is not much difference from lead acid. The voltage is the same as lead acid, and the rest of the power train is unchanged. I have done a 48v lithium upgrade on a different bike and that is much more expensive but goes so much faster, climbs hills better, etc.

    There is a substantial difference in power between 48v and 36v. 36v will get you 17mph, while most 48v systems will get you 25-30mph. For $350, I would do a 48v overvolt kit off of ebay, and a lithium 48v battery. I think that would be the best bank for your buck, and fits your budget.
