Great video! I regularly run 12s to 6s lipo in my daughter's 24v razor dune buggy with an upgraded 48v 1000 watt controller which are only around 28 bucks on eBay and the 24v motor barely gets warm. I've even ran 14s on it but it's a bit to fast for her now.

I just picked up a dune buggy. Do you have a link or can recommend a controller that worked well?

How do you charge? Do you remove the low voltage alarm from the balance wire or just let it charge through the razor's built in charger circuitry? Thanks!

Remove the batteries, unplug low voltage alarm and plug the battery into a lipo charger. Once they are done charging I pop them back in

I have a TomRide TR290. Its currently running 60V (5x 12V SLA). I wondered if you would be able to put together a transition kit for me? I am not as familiar with it. I would be willing to pay for supplies, time and shipping! I would be happy to communicate off thread as well if it makes it easier!

Does that atv have a stock trap door on the bottom? I see some quads you need to remove the whole frame to get to the batteries.

Hello I have been at work a for razor dealer locally. I am also into Traxxas and Arrma RC. We run a lot of 1/5 scale. My question is the stock batteries are saying the last 40 minutes which I have yet to get a set to do. How many minutes are you running on stopwatch for these? I also have a ton of the starconnectors. Also a Christian God bless. General repair 👨‍🔧

Hello sir! God bless you and your family as well. Generally out of the stock 12v SLA batteries we would get around 20-25min. With two 5000mah lipos we get about the same (25min). It really depends on the terrain. We do a lot of off road and sometimes in deep sand which creates more parasitic drag and decreases the run time.

Do you think 24v 9a would get 45m ride time?

I just bought a used 24v quad for my nephew I know 100% the battery is crap not sure about the other electronics but my main goal is that it has torque vs speed of the hills in the yard what works best for long use and/or easy swap out

Depends on your budget. 36v system upgrade from Amazon would be my 1st choice.

What is the utility of the smaller red wire from the speed controller on the power cable?

It ties into the female charging port on the Razor.

Could you use the plug from the stock charger and solder it to a li-po charger to eliminate taking the battery out each time?

It’s possible. That’s beyond my scope of expertise though. Not sure how to wire it without burning something out.

I guess I'm not thinking about using a balance charger..

So do I just plug into where the SLA battery use to be? Just change out the connectors? I’m not sure why you are messing with the controller? I’m a little confused

The speed controller has a male battery connector which has a positive and negative wire. Since most lithium batteries don’t have the correct female connector you can use any type of connector you like (Deans, EC3 etc…) as long as the speed controller and the lithium battery both have connectors that are compatible. I use deans, so I snip off the stock speed control battery connector and solder on a male deans, and I use a lithium battery with a female deans. The stock Razor charger is only made to charge SLA batteries and will not charge lithium. I have a separate lipo battery charger I bought on Amazon for $35. To charge the batteries I have to tip the quad onto its butt and open the door hatch. I then unplug the lipos and plug them into my lipo charger. It’s possible to fabricate a system in which you don’t have to remove the batteries but that’s more money and beyond my skill level. 👍🏼

Did you have to change any electronics on the ATV to run the lipos?

I didn’t, just use the appropriate voltage. You can’t use the stock charger anymore though.

How to you charge the batteries in the quad? 1) Do you take out the battery and charge outside of the vehicle? 2) Do you go through the charging setup from controller that comes with the quad 3) do you wire the charging port directly to the battery since it has its own BMS?

It’s a gamble. I fried my 24v motor trying to run it with the 36v system.

@@joaovictorf.carvalho458 After a few hours. You may have better luck. Different 24v motors have different tolerances.

I have a quad 500 and it just clicks when we turn throttle. Replaced the batteries and it still just clicks. Any ideas?

Every time I’ve had the clicking issue it’s been either the throttle or the red power switch. I’ve had to replace both. After replacing the stock power switch twice I finally upgraded to a big heavy duty unit I found at Orielly’s Auto parts.

What kind of run time do you get ?

Generally in our Razor Scooter stuff we can go around 6-8 miles with a 6000mah battery. I think time wise it’s around 40min or so. You can buy batteries with more capacity, but it’s also more expensive. Instead of lipo batteries (like in this video) my brother went with a LifePO4 12v battery which he is really happy with.

Yeah that confused me. I’m learning and a friend told me not to use deans. He actually mentioned using xt90’s. I dont know, just here trying to learn

@@danesilchenstedt I’d use XT90’s. The only reason I use deans is because I use them in nearly everything I run and it will be a chunk of cash and time to switch them all over. I’ll eventually switch to XT90’s though.

Unfortunately not, many of these items become discontinued after a year or two as new models are released so links often take you to items that are no longer available.

Dirt Quad 500 is 36v. How do you decide what lithium battery to buy? Can I get a 36v 20ah battery? Obviously need to used a diff charger.

I use two 5s lipo batteries in series, or a 4s and 6s lipo in series. You just need 10s or “10” cells. Each cell is 4.2v x 10 = 42v which runs the system fine.

@@mct8888 Multiple reasons. Anything over 6s is hard to find, often expensive, capacity choices are limited since they are not widely used, and most basic lipo chargers only charge up to 6s. Batteries 6s and under are plentiful, cheap, have a wide variety of capacities to choose from, can be charged by most chargers, and can also be used for a variety of tasks such as powering my RC cars, powering an inverter in case of an emergency, or jump starting a car.

I just got my nephew 💙 the mx 350 its such a nice little bike and i wont modify but wish it lasted longer than 30 minutes

That’s the one caveat with these bikes. The run time is limited unfortunately. A work around is buying two used bikes and being able to switch to one after the other dies.
