This is one of Kirk's best solos and one of the best Metal solos of All-Time.
Gotta do ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ and ‘Creeping Death’ off this same record, esp the lyrics on both. I know yall did the live in Russia, but the studio version is extra creepy and dark

On kirks guitars- he has some really cool ones. He is a hardcore horror movie fan and collector. His guitars reflect that.

Same here, the magic of this guitar solo is those incredible riffs James is playing on the rhythm guitar during the solo. This solo and the solo from "One" are my favorite Metallica solos, followed by the "Disposable Heroes" solo.
U guys are awesome .. need to do the studio of FRAYED ENDS OF SANITY
I was there - stage right , great gig - Slane is such an iconic venue - mud ,beer and Metallica what a combo
I haven't seen this live version, I'm impressed. James as he got older tends to sing the old songs as he normally sings now. He actually mostly tried to capture the higher pitch sound of his voice back then.

Morning fellas! Love Metallica! I got to see them when I was 18! I was in the third center row. We even went without tickets! Our friends had theirs and were teasing us cause we were outside the gate looking for ticket scalpers. Then a guy at the window said some of the bands family couldn't come and he had those seats! We flipped off our friends as we made it to the front and they were way out on the grass! Haha! Great show and great times! 🤓❤️🎸
I was at this 🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟
Thank you for finally reacting to this song. It’s my personal favorite off the album. I will say although the performance was awesome, you can hear everything more clearly on the studio version. Have a great day guys!!! New Metallica video came out for 72 Seasons. Just sayin!!!

At least they picked a version where Kirk (mostly) nails the solo 😅
Metallica still puts on a great live show. Have they slowed down? Of course they have, but they're all in their late 50's/ early 60's. We'll never see the Metallica of the 80's ever again, but let's appreciate tthat they're still around and touring/ making new music. They could have called it quits 15 years ago and sat around counting their money. Metallica are definitely still relevant in 2023.
The same show that Joey subbed for Lars, Dave Lombardo also subbed for Lars. Two of the best two drummers in metal in one night
OG Metallica was James, Cliff, Lars and Dave Mustaine they fired Dave and replaced him with Kirk then Cliff died he was replaced by Jason and when Jason left Rob audition and got the part of bass player great reaction once again guys 🤟

It’s not the singer, the drummer, the guitarist or bassist that makes a band. It’s the combination of all them that make a band. You can have the best guitarist and still not have it you know. James and Lars started the band then added cliff on bass and megadeths Dave mustaine on lead guitar. They fired Dave while making the first album and he was replaced with Kirk. Dave is an amazing guitarist and is credited for the kill ‘em all album. After cliff passed away tragically Jason newstead came on board. Robert replaced him on bass. So basically James , Lars and Kirk have always been Metallica. Kirk came from a band called exodus- another awesome metal band. Robert was in suicidal tendencies (another great band) and also played for ozzy.
Second Metalica song I ever heard in my life, as it was track 2 on this album. I remember thinking it was pretty clever that an electric chair session was called "riding the lightning," not realizing that the phrase was older than shit, Metallica didn't coin it. :) This riff is like a perfect example of the thrash guitar tone of that era.
Absolutely one of Metallica's best performances of Ride the Lightning. Better than on the tour in '85. But '86 is probably their best of this song.....this version is a close one.
The crazy thing is these guys have been going so hard for so long, James said that every person in the band has had multiple surgeries because their bodies break down from just all these years of touring. And the truly insane part is that the older they're getting, the more classic and more old school thrash metal they're sounding!
Kirk replaced Dave Mustaine. James and Lars founded Metallica....Cliff died in 1986....Jason Newstead filled Cliff's spot....

I took my 15 year old metalhead mini me to see them at the AT&T Center in Arlington last August, and she was headbanging right there with me. They opened with Whiplash... holy shit! Followed by For Whom the Bell Tolls and straight into Ride the Lightning without slowing down. Ride the Lightning live is enough to melt your face off 🤘🤘
I don't know about the print, but he has some pretty good signature guitars. Kirk Hammett that is, shoot Robert Trujillo signature bass guitars are pretty good too.

Metallica!! Always giving their 100% live. Fucking eh'! Imagine them doing two hour shows almost every night for four months straight, and each one is the same top notch level! Each one giving it all! Then you hear the so-called Metallica fanbois bitch and moan about Lars' drumming or Kirk's overuse of wah-wah... and you're like , "Dude! These guys are millionaires doing what they love, going out every night to give it ALL for you. How many lifetimes would you need to accomplish what they have accomplished?"
Its been a minute since you guys reacted to metallica, pls do more if you can
I'm a longtime Metallica fan, and Ride the Lightning is definitely in my top 10 fave 'tallica songs. Lars' drum track on the original studio recording is an absolute masterpiece. By the way... Current lineup: James Hetfield & Lars Ulrich (since the beginning '81); Kirk Hammett (since 1983), and Robert Trujillo (since 2003). Past members: Cliff Burton (bass 1982-'86), Jason Newsted (bass 1986-2001), Dave Mustaine (gtr 1981-'83), Ron McGovney (bass 1981-'82). Producer Bob Rock played bass on the St Anger album, but didn't tour with them. That's it fellas. That's all who have played in this band. Kirk, James, and Lars have been there pretty much since the start.
The live videos from Manchester on this tour are insane - the rain was battering it down. Check out Master of Puppets from it
With this being Easter weekend y'all really should've done Creeping Death 😂😂😂 (I know, you've already done a live version of that song 🤣)
From the same show, Whiskey in a Jar
I used to listen to this album on cassette in college in the mid 80s. Good stuff!
Lars owns the band, that's the only reason he's never been replaced. You can never understand why people are sour on lars' drumming unless you heard the whole discography in order or you were there. Lars stopped being innovative after and Justice for all album His talent dwindled and his motivation to be better was lost. He cut corners, and took short cuts.

I agree Billy Bong, though i do think there are amazing fills on the Black album too, but considering that AJFA was before Black album, and he went harder on AJFA, black album is a little less special. @ben ben it wasn't bad on the black album but that's when he definitely dumbed it down. It's more about the live, he dumbs it all down and it's sloppy, and listening to any other drummer on earth, not 1 has gotten worse over time, they all get better, except for Lars. I feel like he never truly learned how to drum.

Kirk absolutely nailed the solo.
If there is fairness around James Hetfield has to be crowned the best frontman ever 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘. It was Lars who founded Metallica with James in ‘81. Kirk joined in ‘83 when Dave Mustaine rightfully was sacked due to drinking and odd behavour

"I need that guitar". If you've got $12,000 for that limited special edition run, then it can be yours.
Og and the only guys who can rightfully be called Metallica are James, Kirk, Lars and Cliff. Cliff died, they brought in Jason on bass. Jason eventually got fired and they brought Rob in on bass. Since Cliff died, they haven't been Metallica, imo. They should've changed the name
Kirk is under rated because his solos always fit so well within the groove of the song. I think it's a mark of a great band when no one stands out. Cohesion is the hardest skill to master.

As a drummer myself, Lars is not a great drummer but is maybe one of the most influential drummers of all time (with Ringo and Tommy Lee) on the sense they were a Frontman but on drums. All Drummers wants to be like them staring at the people, silencing a cymbal, that kind of stuff Ride the lightning is my favorite from them

Okay, I enjoy Megadeth as well, but the Mustaine fanboys need to do a little research. He did not write "most of this album." By his own words, he wrote parts of this song, and most of "Call of Kthulu" before Metallica expanded it.
Metallica will always be one of my Top 3 bands ! 🖤 I love them so much.
I feel like you guys should know this by now, but Kirk immediately replaced Dave Mustaine when he was fired. Cliff Burton replaced Ron McGovney, the original bassist. Jason Newstead replaced Cliff when he died and Jason quit and was replaced by Trujilo
PLEASE react to System of a down MIND lyrics (from their 1st album) and the demo is even better
James actually was pretty close to being replaced around the right the lightning time period. He was feeling insecure about his singing and wanted to focus on guitar so they brought in the singer from Armored Saint and jammed with him for a bit and when he was offered the position as their new singer, he declined because he said that was only worthy for James’s spot.
looked thru the comments...Megadeth frontman Mustaine was the OG Metallica lead Guitarist. He had some stud moments in metal history but is mostly known IMO of just being a hater....of Metallica. They kicked him for Drug Use/Abuse. Goggle would give a better example. Tho TBH...previous poster pointed out Rob McGov....and he isnt wrong. The band moved from LA to SF to gain the talent of Cliff. Cliff was 1 of the best composers in history of rock IMO. There is a solo from 83 called pulling teeth and its live. U can hear like 4 or 5 future Metallica songs in it....all done from the Bass. also known as anesthesia. Megadeath is also worth taking a look at time permitting. 4 Horseman by Metallica is the same song as The Mechanix by Megadeth..same Riff...way Diff song
