Fun fact here, Metallica wasn’t the headliner that day. AC/DC was. This show was added on to the end of the monsters of rock tour. That summer while this tour was going on in Europe the Black Album was blowing up around the world. This was the last show Metallica would ever open except one night of respect for the Stones in the late 90’s. This is a video of Metallica becoming the biggest metal band in the world, in real time

He was replaced by Kirk and it's Kirk on all of Metallica's albums. Dave was credited for co-writing 4 songs on Kill Em' All and 2 songs on 'Ride the Lightning', but he was gone before they actually recorded their 1st album. I'm glad that feud is squashed and they're all friends today.* 🔥🤘

I never really subscribed to the "rift" between the two bands. Both made amends to one another not too terribly long afterwards, and in doing so, they just let their fans roll with it. Later, as more and more info came to light, it turned out to be one absolutely brilliant marketing move by both bands that translated into dollars in their pockets. We fans benefited because we got two legendary bands instead of just one.

It was his own choice, he gave the band an ultimatum, «either you let me do my own thing musicaly for a year or I’m leaving the band». The band didn’t want to risk it and find a step in bassist for a year, they wanted to stay a complete band, and push forward. Because at the time Jason was leaving, the band had a lot of issues and almost fell apart, I think they took the right decision in letting him leave and then audition for a new bassist (Robert). Who is now the longest serving bassist in the band. I too love listening to old concerts where Jason does all the vocals, especially ‘’seek & destroy’’, but it had to be done, he gave the ultimatum and Metallica had no choice but let him leave.

That right there is what they mean when they say, "A sea of humanity", holy shit! That is seriously a metric asston of people! For the challenge: There is no 'yeeeaaaaah' in Orion. I saw Metallica a couple of handfuls of years ago in Toronto, and it was truly one of the best shows I've seen (and I'm very fortunate to have seen some incredible bands). They melt your face off, and in between, they are so humble and grateful for your presence, it's the coolest vibe I've ever been a part of.

I was a stagehand for 15 years. Those aren't 'multiple stages'. The big tall one is called FOH(Front of House). It's where the sound engineers mix the sound coming out of the PA and on stage. Above them is Spot Ops(spot lights). The small towers on the left and right are called Delay Towers. When you have huge crowds like this. You need Delay Towers. The Low end travels at a slower speed and it create a wobble in the mix. The Delay Towers counteract this. Hope that helps.

One of the best ways to describe this show is a comment I read at one point. "Hitler sent millions to conquer Russia over the span of a year and failed. The Americans sent 8 and succeeded in one day" I've seen them 11 times now. Unfortuantely not old enough to have seen them with Cliff. But I will say this, they never fail to put on a good show. The energy with Jason was beyond measure. And this song was his. Every live performance, the demon on bass came out and kicked your ass! There will never be a band as big as these guys. Hate em or love 'em - they are the biggest metal band to have ever played music.

This song is how I start my Passover Seder every single year! #facts I've played shows in front of 6000 people, and in a club with literally zero people (girlfriends and bartenders) that's it. Empty shows are by far and away the hardest, and giving 100% effort to no one is extremely hard. Smokey's right, the bigger the crowd, the easier it is. When it's a sea of people or even a packed club, you don't notice the few people not paying attention, in a sparse show, that's all you see.

🙋🏻‍♂️ And that's when your trash talker- sound engineer comes to the party. Those are not multiple stages. Those are called delay towers. Imagine that... James sais "Yeaaaah" 😅 from the stage and in front of him there are 1,5 million people. The last one should be at least half of a mile, from the stage. Sound is traveling much slower than light. That's why you first see a firework and after a while you see it. So the delay towers or delay speakers are used in very big venues so all the audience could hear the music as closer as it gets to the actual music playing (it takes some MSEC for electric signal to get there).

Dave Mustaine was kicked out right before they recorded their first album. Kirk was brought in to replace him & has played on every album. That's why Mustaine was not inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame with them because their rules are you must play ON an album. Rob Trujillo qualified by being on Death Magnetic their qualifying year.

Those other towers WEREN'T stages .. those were speaker/security towers so the whole crowd could hear the music and the Russian military could keep things orderly . The concert was on a military base .. It was a free concert that had AC/DC , Metalica , The Black Crows and Pantera .. AC/DC were the headliners ...

This was Metallica at their peak, the album this track comes from, Ride the lightning, is my favourite album by Metallica. I like what Smokey was saying about stage fright... it is a very weird thing, almost ineffable, because, me, I'm a very shy person, I can't just walk up to any old person and strike up a conversation, I am typically "that guy" at a party or in a bar that sits quietly, alone in the corner of the room talking to no one, because I'm too shy to approach anyone. But, when I walk out on stage with a mic in my hand, it's something completely different, and I've never been able to explain it... It's like the music changes everything.

I first discovered Metallica in 1989, since then I've seen them in concert 9 different times in 6 different states, every show was mind blowing they sound just as good live as they do on a recording, I gave myself permanent whiplash from headbanging so hard but it was worth it, I'm from Tn and one of the shows I went to was in Atlanta, what was the name of the arena there I've been driving myself nucking futs trying to remember it?? Anesthesia pulling teeth, Orians belt, Call of Cthulhu probably the only songs without the Yeahh because their instrumentals.

Are we doing Metallica Friday? No Leaf Clover is still one of my favorites. My grandfather LOVED Metallica’s S&M concert. He was in WWII and just loved it. Dudes, he was a tenor and loved James’ voice.Edit: My dudes. The sound level of the people would be greater than the AMPLIFIERS. They have a whole military presence there
