Trapped Under Ice is a force! Ride the Lightning is such a great album. Ride the Lightning is the first Metallica album I ever bought and still love it.

Metallica awesome but the gods of metal is iron maiden

That was the best interpretation of the guitar solo I've heard so far.

Pretty much every song from the first 4 albums is an absolute banger.

'Spit out the bone' off their newest album Hardwired to Self Destruct, really feels like an old school metallica song. Recommend checking it out if you haven't yet.

Fun fact: Spit Out The Bone is a song made from their history. The distorted bass part reflecting on Cliff with his distorted bass parts and solos, in the intro you can hear an open chord ringing out with fast drums in the background kind of like Whiplash and a few other songs on Kill 'Em All that did that. And one of the solos was even like the solos Kirk played on Kill 'Em All. "Reinvent the earth inhabitant" which is one of the lyrics in this song kind of makes you think about Blackened from And Justice For All. I think there was more than that but I cannot remember anything else.

@metallfan2k7 - true, 100%. Especially considering the history. Such as people still think that "Ride the Lightning" is about being electrocuted... But in fact both "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" are about... drugs. So when listening to both those songs, there is actually much deeper meaning there. Amazing, considering the fact that at that time, those guys were just above 20 years old (when both albums were created). And let's not forget... Cliff Burton, as pretty much most of the stuff there was his creativity.

This song has my favorite guitar solos of Metallica, Kirk Hammett's one of the underrated ones imo

@@Salomon_G No he didn't, he wrote the main riff and a couple other riffs, solo is nothing like Dave's style as well, it's an obvious Kirk solo.

Trapped Under Ice is such an underrated song. It's like one of the scariest moments one could have if they fell through the ice in the river and the river pushed them away from the out hole

I remember when I first heard this album... when it was new. To see it heard it through younger and more joyful ears takes me back to the time when I could enjoy it the same way. Thank you for making me feel young again for a minute. Cheers.

Honestly, for my old ass, anything past Justice for All is not all that...(but all prior including Justice are fire...cover to cover!)

Lightning is my fav album as well - but Puppets is impossible to dismiss. By my account you've only heard one track from that album. I highly encourage you to listen to "Disposable Heroes" from Puppets. That's is a guitar solo enthusiast's dream!! Then from Justice album which you've only done "One", i highly encourage you to check out "Blackened" the lead-in track on that album. Very similar to this song Lightning in that it's heavy in your face with a lot of aggression and profound make you uncomfortable moments (in a good way). Loving your metal reactions. Many of us prefer the older Metallica as well so welcome to the club!

The Call of Ktulu (Instrumental) from this album, from other albums: Spit out the Bone, Disposable Heroes, Sanitarium, Battery... the list goes on, but I look forward to seeing more reactions. Great job.

If you’re liking Metallica, then you’ll probably also really like Pantera. “Walk” is their most popular song, but I also highly recommend “Cemetary Gates”, “Cowboys from Hell”, and the live version of “Domination”.

I love this album, it was the second I bought from them back in the early 90's when I was a kid, the first was Master Of Puppets, then ...And Justice For All and Metallica (The Black Album) all on Cassettes, later on CDs. My favorite songs from this one are Fight Fire with Fire, Fade To Black, Creeping Death and The Call of Ktulu. There are some songwriting contributions by Dave Mustaine (leader of MEGADETH) on this song (Ride The Lightning) and some other tunes like Fight Fire with Fire (the acoustic intro was played all by Cliff Burton), and some sections of The Call Of Ktulu on this album.

Ride the Lightning is a signature album for Metallica.

I had that album in 1983 when I was 15. It was my absolute most favorite album.

I think Ride the lightning is my fave Metallica album. It sounds so raw. And almost every track is a BANGER. You should do the whole album. Also There is a 10 yr old lil girl named Ellen who does an amazing bass cover of "For whom the bell tolls" you might want to react to or at the least check out on your own time @Lilly Jane Reacts

This was the first Metallica song I ever heard, in 1985. And it's still my favorite and always will be. Hearing Metallica back then was the first time I thought to myself, this is my band and my music.

You do the best Metallica reaction videos on the Tube. Being a teenager in the 80's, I lived, ate, drank, slept all Metallica. I cruised around in my car with my buds smokin bud everyday after school and the weekends just blasting Metallica. I remember the first songs that got me hooked were Am I Evil, Seek And Destroy, Creeping Death, and Jump In The Fire. Seek and Destroy and Disposable Heroes were the first songs I learned to play on guitar and went on to learn many more Metallica songs. Also I agree, early Metallica was the best for me as well. Really up to And Justice For All. After that I found myself skipping many songs on their future releases. Where as their earlier stuff I NEVER skipped a song.

I remember when I was 15, 'grabbing ahold of a electric fence by accident,with both of my hands,it felt like I got slammed with a brick wall, running all the way through my arms,then into my chest. (WHAM!!!) It's a good thing those fences are set up to turn on & off , because I was able to let go. Speaking of letting go,I heard a real life story about some old man that was standing near an electric fence, attached to a barbwire fence, in a cow pasture,'had his grandson run up to him,telling him he had to go pee.(while holding his crotch, jumping up,and down in one spot). The old man told his grandson to pee over there, pointing at the barbwire fence.Then his grandson dose just what he told him to do,and when he let go - he let go all over the electric fence.. The old man laughed his arse off,as his grandson ran to the house, screaming to the top of his lungs, that his grandpa made him pee on the electric fence!!

Lilly Jane , you are correct ! The first four albums are stellar ! My fave album is And Justice For All . Most will say Master of Puppets or Kill Em All . And they ALL kick major ass , especially when they came out ! WOW !

2nd, 3rd, and 4th for me. KEA doesn’t hold up nearly as well, and I can’t rank it above a lot of their later stuff. I still love it, but it’s very, very basic and I think it’s quite a bit overrated.

Dyers Eve from And Justice For All. Emotional song about James’ childhood.

Kirk Hammett came up with the inspiration for the album title and song from a line from Stephan King's novel the Stand. One of the characters is on death row waiting to "ride the lightning" .

Since you enjoyed "For Whom the Bell Tolls" so much, you should watch the Cliff 'em All version, live from 198x-something, when Cliff Burton gets his time to shine. It's probably the best Metallica live video ever made, in my opinion. And yes, Ride the Lightning is Metallica's best album.

James has commented many times that this is his favorite album. I personally love it , but master ... hard call both are just perfection.

I’m glad you took my advice. This song, in my opinion, has Metallica’s greatest solos from the Cliff period of their career, with the possible exception of ‘Orion’ .

From, St. Anger- Frantic, St. Anger, Some Kinf of Monster, Dirty Window, Sweet Amber. From, Death Magnetic- That was just your life, The say that never comes, Suicide & Redemption. From, Hardwired- Hardwired, Now that we’re Dead, Moth into flame, Murder One. For live stuff- I Love their box set “Live Shit: Binge & Purge” it has 3 concerts from 3 different years on it. Check those out. I also love “S&M 1” and “S&M 2” I recommend those as well. If you ever listen to “All within my hands” off of St. Anger, then listen to the version from S&M 2 you’ll hear a HUGE difference and I recommend the live version. Other live concerts I enjoy are “Live in Milton Keyes 1993” , “Day on the Green 1985” , “Live in Manchester 2018” and definitely “Live in Moscow 1991” which I know you reacted to “Creeping Death” from that concert. DVDs/documentaries I love are “A Year and a half in the life of Metallica” it’s 3 1/2 hours long but it’s a good watch. (There was 1 1/2 hours of footage cut from it). I saw you have already seen “Some Kind of monster” which is good. I also enjoy “Metallica- Behind the music” which gets pretty deep. I’m sure others will add songs to my list that I’ve given you but those are some of my favorites. Oh and last thing- DO NOT LOOK UP METALLICA’S “LULU” ALBUM. IT DOESNT EXIST, IT NEVER HAPPENED WE DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT EVER. you can if you want to though but you have been warned!

Metalica's Ride The Lighting was way ahead of its time! Lilly Jane, when you get a chance listen to the entire album, you will want to own it. One song you should get a chance to listen to is Ozzy Osbourne's Suicide Solution. The most controversial Heavy Metal song of all time!

If you want an instrumental. The Call of Ktulu from that same Ride The Lightning album might interest you. There's also 2 S&M versions of that same song, both well executed. Fight Fire with Fire is also another great one from that Album. Creeping Death talks about liberation of slaves under the Egyptians. You already listened to Trapped Under Ice, Fade to Black, Ride the Lightning and For Whom the Bell Tolls so that pretty much covers all the album. The last one is Escape and my least favorite one of that Album, basically a counter to Ride the Lightning and Escaping prison before that happens.

This, Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, and For Whom the Bell Tolls are some of my favorite Metallica songs! Recently became a metal head because of these guys and Eddie Munson

Every song on this album is amazing. You can't go wrong with any of them. I'd say that about their first four albums really although the first is a little rough/raw. If I were to pick the next song from this album... Creeping Death.

Fade to black is my favorite song ever and the last solo is Kirk’s best solo 🤘

Hauntingly still is The Call of Ktulu. You need to listen. Instrumental. You’ll love it Lilly.
