HIP HOP FAN'S FIRST TIME HEARING 'Metallica - Sad But True | GENUINE REACTION

Ойын-сауық

For me this Metallica journey so far has been one of the best musical journeys I have ever been on. I know a lot of people aren't fans of the Black album but from what I have heard so far, I have got to admit, I am really enjoying it. My favourite Metallica song is Wherever I May Roam and that is on the Black Album. I guess It may have been different If I was there to experience the change of their music but personally, I don't have a problem with it. I think it's great.
Here is my reaction to hearing Metallica - Sad But True for the first time. I hope you enjoy it.

there is a reason why Doja Cat sells too. most people arent musicians, a highly technical band like Metallica had to dumb their music down to reach the mainstream audience. the black album was a sell out album. selling out is compromising your art for the sole purpose to make more money. yeah it sells great. the majority love it, musicians and true fans of Metallica hate they did this..

@@corrob You dare compare (insert any commercial rap sh17) to the Black Album? That's cold, dude. If metal bands took evolving their style as "selling out", we wouldn't be here listening to it as metal would have remained a fringe thing that died out decades ago. I seriously hope you're not one of those self proclaimed purist fan guys who yell slurs at the band during concerts next to people actually genuinely there to enjoy it.

@@corrobI used to think the same way but as I get older I realize "selling out" usually coordinates with age. They didn't really "sell out" as much as they matured. They got big enough where they were able to get some top notch production and refine their sound to something more clean and consistent than their earlier thrashers. I think Metallica is special because they've given us a wide variety of music styles to choose from to fit almost any mood. Look at Slayer, Kerry King never really grew out of his chug chug chug with the same damn guitar tone in every single song for decades. Is that what you really want every band to be? Just a rehash of previous albums over and over again? Be careful what you wish for, sometimes "selling out" is the best thing that can happen to a band.

People have a weird hangup with Metallica. Metallica achieved a massive level of success without any radio airplay or a music video from their 1st 3 albums. They were an underground sensation that eventually made a music video and became the biggest band on the planet. When this happened people acted like Metallica was stolen away from them, like they were destined to play small clubs forever. Get over it!

Mollyboy yo-the ppl ragging on the black album are the old school fans who didn’t want the band to evolve. Plus as Met grew & changed they attracted more fans, so the old school fans were pissed that Metallica wasn’t their little secret, their hidden gem anymore. So these fans turned against the band and discounted everything after the first four albums. I didn’t discover Met until 1993, so AJFA and the black album first, and then went back for the rest of their catalog. Like you, I didn’t understand the hate (and never bought into it) because I hadn’t lived through Metallica’s underground years. Fans must face the fact that elitism doesn’t pay the bill for bands-they work fucking hard to succeed and should enjoy their success. I will say that im not as appreciative of their ensuing output, but that’s mostly because my tastes were evolving too-to technical post hardcore & progressive death metal. To each their own.

I don't ever hate on this record. The change took us all by surprise, the slower tempo took an adjustment but it shouldn't have. Metallica said it from the beginning. Kill em All and Ride the Lightning doesn't define that band and they said so at the time. Kirk always said don't get used to this sound. We are experimenting with all heavy music. And... Fantastic record. I just discovered you yesterday mang. Watching the genuine emotions this music puts you through is also emotional for me somehow. I laugh. I cry. And knowing what's coming gives everything a sense of anticipation, wondering how it's going to hit you. I'm along for the ride brother. What a trip

💯...how long is a band supposed to stay on the underground scene and live in a rat hole on ramen and jelly sandwiches? At some point the money these artists deserve after giving their talent away in clubs and dive bars can only be made on radio play and album sales that lead to sold out arenas and merch sales. Metallica has always said in interviews that they play and write what they enjoy and if you dig it great and if you don't no problem.

People who says that it isn't a good albums are wannabe elitists that weren't even there when it came out. When it came out, nobody was complaining about this : this is the album that really brought metal music to the "normal'" people ears. Why people are they saying this ? Because Metallica changed a lot after this record. It is mostly due to their release after the Black album which is Load. And these people are saying that the Black album was the first stride in the Load direction, so they're blaming the 'commercialism', 'selloutness' of this album to be the beginning the "Metallica fall". I personnally liked Load a lot, but yeah it was quite challenging at first to see this change of direction. Anyway, the Black album is fire. Just hold up unto your own opinion.

You have to remember they were a bunch of teenagers when they started but as they matured they grew musically and weren't afraid to go in different directions and the fact they are still going and still producing quality albums says it all. I will always have a huge soft spot for this album as in my opinion it was a lightning in a jar moment.

Mollyboy i said it once I'll say it again. Don't listen to those metal elitists and gatekeepers telling you that anything after And Justice for All... is "not good", or "not metal enough". This is music, not sports. You can leave that competition over there. Music is subjective and of course people are going to have differing opinions, but there is a difference between someone with logic, reasoning, and an open mind telling you that in their opinion, they don't like the direction a certain band or in this case Metallica, went after a certain project but still respects the band and understands people have different tastes. Versus close-minded elitist gatekeeping losers that think that think they have some type of superiority because they think heavier and brutal music is the only thing that's listenable; it's honestly very laughable. Metallica makes good music period! Keep up the reactions! You gotta do a reaction to Kill em all. Their first album and work your way up!

No one can deny that the black album is one of the greatest metal albums ever made. It is the most popular metal album in history for a reason and its not because it sucked. Its not my favourite Metallica album but it is legendary for a reason. They did exactly what they had to do when the grunge scene killed thrash metal. They played the game perfectly and became the biggest metal band on the planet.

As an original metal head, I loved this album when it first came out and still do to this day, however it is a bit different than the previous ones. Over the years back then, we watched Metallica go from "our thing" as fans of heavy metal, to more popular and "mainstream"-ish. Personally, it did not change my thoughts about them at all. What I will admit is that they got slower as they started changing their sound. They started out as both Thrash Metal and Speed Metal, but over time had morphed into more standard Heavy Metal, with some Thrash thrown in. While I wished for them to get back to being more Thrash/Speed metal, I still loved all their releases until Load. That's where they turned more into a rock band with heaviness. There were also some lame comments made by the band to their fans, which really caused fans to get upset. Enjoy what you enjoy and never let anyone, and especially us OG MetalHeads, tell you what you should like and what you shouldn't like. I never did. I listened to Poison and Bon Jovi at the same time I listed to Slayer and Metallica (that was a huge no-no back then, truuuust me). Grow your own journey my friend. And in that journey, if you would get to Overkill - with their song Elimination (studio, not live...can do live later), I'd be one happy metalhead. :) They don't have it on their official page from what I can see, so here is a link to a good version on youtube: kzread.info/dash/bejne/paqdmKyifcifk5M.html

There is a phrase:- Familiarity breeds contempt. At one point in time you couldn't go anywhere without hearing it. It became anathema to some people. Its popularity became its death knell for a lot of people. I love the whole album to this day, and it's no stranger to my turntable.

I submit that the fans who diss on the black album only do so due to its commercial success. Some people wanna be in an exclusive group and when things go mainstream they don't like it anymore. Its not the music, its their own desire to stand out out as different.

The thing about the black album is that it was the first time getting out of their confort zone. They were challenged. They moved away from pure thrash metal but modernized metal in the process.

It's a great song and a monster album. People whine because it wasn't thrashy anymore, because heaven forbid a band try new things. Don't be afraid of their later catalog, there's great shit there, too. 🤘

Basically people who don't like Metallica after Justice are metal snobs who got butthurt that Metallica stopped being as thrashy and went more commercial. Cemented by the fact that the 2 albums after the Black album 'Load' and 'ReLoad' (1996 & 1997) went even further from it, even incorporating some southern rock and country leanings. But you'll still find bangers on all of them. Except for maybe St Anger in 2003 😄. But after that they went back to their thrashy roots with 'Death Magnetic' in 2008. Then since that album they've kinda had a mixture of all their styles.

As a Metallica fan since 1985, the first time I heard them. The early fans liked them because they were so different. This album was hard rock, not thrash metal which they helped to invent. It's standard hard rock with the Metallica flair. The older fans took it as them selling out. Personally, as a hard rock fan who stumbled upon Metallica, I love it and they will always be my favorite band and the biggest band in the world, no matter what the haters say.

This is probably the best produced rock / metal album every recorded. Every instrument is perfect. Love the fact that you come at Metallica from an unbiased listeners perspective. You'll get many naysayers taking shit about them selling out etc. Don't listen to that tired garbage, just enjoy what YOU hear. Song is an absolute BANGER 💥

He’s dedicated it to someone when I saw them and on other occasions. He dedicated it to a kid named “Cole” who was having a birthday at the time, when I saw them in ‘17. I forgot how old he was, but he was probably in elementary school.

The Black Album is 'heavy' in the hard rock sense. Totally different kind of heavy than their 80's stuff.... this is the type of heavy that non-metalheads can get into.

The main people that say the black album isn’t as good are people that were fans from early on, who loved them for creating a whole new sound (thrash) in the midst of glam in the early 80s. They represented something completely different and you had to work at it to be a fan of theirs. They weren’t played on radio, they didn’t make videos (until One) and you had to make a real effort to find their music (in an era of no internet…relying on tapes and trading, metal magazines to find out about them). Also, in that era, listening to their music wasn’t just a choice of what tape or record to put on (yes, before cds)…it was a choice to be a part of outsider music and culture. It was a deliberate decision that, at that time in history, had actual social consequences. So a lot of fans who had loved them from the beginning feel that they “sold out” when they made more radio-friendly music, and when people who would never go near a metalhead all of a sudden liked their music. It is possible to do both - love them for what they did in the early years AND appreciate the musical journey they have taken since, still innovating and creating new music. Fan for life 🖤🤘🏻🖤
