HIP HOP FAN'S FIRST TIME HEARING 'Metallica - Harvester Of Sorrow' | GENUINE REACTION

Ойын-сауық

We're back with another banger for the '...And Justice For All' album. This one is Harvester Of Sorrow. After listening to multiple songs now from this album I actually feel like I don't have a problem with the production quality. I can see the differences from the first 3 albums but I still think this one is a masterpiece.
Here is my reaction to hearing Metallica - Harvester Of Sorrow for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

I've tinkered with the stems and made it sound considerably better and more full, but I love the album and the original production is part of that. It has its own sound. If Black album didn't sound as good as it does, it would not have been the hit it was.

One of my favourite Metallica tracks, always thought it was much heavier than The Thing that Should Not Be, though most people seem to disagree. The live version from Moscow is absolutely brutal: 10/10. This is a song that really benefits from having Jason bass in the mix, so the live versions feel much ‘bigger’. I think your next step should be to check out the live versions of a lot of these songs. In terms of going beyond the thrash bands you mentioned, not sure how much exposure you have to other 80’s bands. But I could give you a tonne of recommendations from bands like Ratt, Skid Row, Queensryche, early Pantera, etc. The 80’s had so many excellent metal bands; it truly was the time when metal was on top of the world!

Lars’ drumming has inspired some of the most iconic drummers and have said it’s not always about speed and tricks. Lars’ playing was unique and always purposeful, inspired generations to drum. Both Lars and Kirk are very talented and were the perfect ones for Metallica as all of them (with Cliff) had the same vision as pioneers of Thrash metal. When jokingly asked if Joe Satriani (taught Kirk before Metallica) ever thought why Metallica didnt go for him instead of Kirk, he said he wouldnt want to come between what they were starting because he could see they were on to something big. Thrash metal. Rant over.

It’s a great album. My favourite album. The production was deliberate to be more raw and more aggressive. Yes it suffers a bit with the bass getting lost, but they had just lost Cliff, their ears were shot, and wanted to push the limit of a scooped aggressive guitar sounds. It suited the riffs, it suited James’ voice. Every song punches hard. Can’t wait until you get into the breakdown and solo in Frayed

You have been reacting to some of my favourite 80's Thrash bands. Here's some more from that era. Overkill, Testament, Forbidden, Nuclear Assault, Exodus (the band that Kirk Hammett founded and named before joining Metallica) Flotsam & Jetsam (the band Jason Newsted was with before joining Metallica), Annihilator (my favoutite band from my home country, Canada), Sabbat (England) Kreator, (Germany), Sodom, (Germany), Destruction (Germany), Stone (Finland), Voivod (Canada, Jason Newsted apparently helped them comeback from retirement), Razor (Canada), Sacrifice (Canada), Suicidal Tendencies (Crossover Thrash), Stormtroopers of Death (Scott Ian of Anthrax's Crossover Thrash project), Artillery (Denmark) Coroner (Switzerland). There are so many fantastic Thrash bands from the 80's that I can't recall at the moment as I am quite inebriated. When I do remember them, i will comment them on future reaction videos. A few New Wave of Thrash Metal bands that are influenced by the bands listed above that I have stumbled upon in the past 15 years... Evile (England, The Metallica influence oozes from their tunes) Lich King (U.S.), Havok (U.S.), Suicidal Angels (Greece, the Slayer influence is strong with these dudes), Nocturnal (Germany), Nocturnal Breed (Norway), Angelus Apatrida (Spain, the Slayer influence is strong with these dudes too), 3 Inches of Blood (Canada), Lazarus A.D. (U.S. the vocalist and bassist, Jeff Paulick, looks like he's Dimebag Darrell Abbott's bastard love child). Once again, too inebriated to remember and list them all and will comment them on future videos. Still feeling very nostalgic watching your reactions, keep 'em coming, my young Metal brother!!! 🤘

This was the first song I heard off this album when they played it on the Monsters Of Rock tour, a few months before the album came out. They had the second set in a five band bill, but the wildest fans of the day by far. I bought a white Metallica tank top, which I still have.

Imo their darkest song off their darkest album, this one always gave me chills. Monsters often hide in plain sight. James deserves all the credit in the world for how much work he put into improving as a vocalist considering he never wanted the role to begin with.

There are so many complaints about the mix and bass sound, or lack there of. For me this is what makes it such a great album. It perfectly captured the anger/ aggression of the band at that time. And nothing else sounds like it. The “dryness” of the sound perfectly accentuates James vocals, making it my favourite performance by him.

This song is special for me because it’s the first song i ever heard from Metallica. My classmate back in the day was singing it and i was like what are you singing and he said i took this cassette from my older brother this band is amazing we went into the school bathroom because a “walkman” was not allowed at school obviously i listened to the song and got hooked then my classmate and i would gather money from our allowance and buy the cassettes and listen to the songs try to decipher the lyrics as best as we could given our age and that English isn’t our mother tongue. True this song doesn’t have the longest most complicated solo but the solo fits perfectly and it’s the song where James growls the most (you should check the live version at Moscow). Don’t worry about your channel bro react to Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC DC, Guns n Roses, Aero Smith, Jethro Tull, RATM and your channel will do great 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

Ive had this album since it came out. And it is still my favorite Metallica album. People can talk all they want about how good or bad they think Metallica are. But theyve been hitting it hard since the early 80s. And still pushing out music. Sure theyve changed. But who wouldnt over that time? My personal favorites are all of the albums up to and including this album. I am really loving watching your reactions and your discovery of into new geners of music. Just have fun brother.

Imo, the way James Hetfield uses his vocals in their songs. Especially on this album ...And Justice For All. It's what I would say the way a metal singer spits lyrics like a rapper spits lyrics in hip hop/gangster rap. Both James and Lars grew up listening to different genres of music. You can tell listening to Lars ' drumming, by the way he does that tap ticka tap. It's very jazzy and hip hopish. I've noticed that alot of rap fans and black listeners will notice that about Lars. But James does have a way he spits the lyrics.

MB, let’s talk guitar. In a previous comment I mentioned palm muting. The beginning of this song is what I use to warm up and get my palm muting dialed in. You can learn it no problem. The soft open intro, learn just that. Get the pattern and timing down. Then turn on distortion and play the exact same thing. Only now instead of plucking each string and letting it stay open and ring, you will be using the palm of your pick hand to quiet the strings and get the chunky “thunk” out of the note. You will learn slowly that you can apply different amounts of your palm and pressure to get slightly different sounds out of the note. That and the fact that when you play it distorted, not all the notes in the the riff are muted. It will help make that quick transition from letting it ring and thunking it down. Getcha pull. 🤘

It's so much fun watching a young man react to Metallica. Been a fan since 85. I was 13 and heard Ride. I still feel the same way whether I see them live or listening to the albums. And Justic is the Apex Predator of thrash metal. After that album they could not go anywhere else except The Black album.
