Randall Lee Smith : Lyin' Randall

Nobody knows why Randall Lee Smith carried out the crimes he did. Decades after murdering two people in the Appalachian Mountains, he tried to murder two more people with absolutely no motive.

He was sentenced to 15 years for each murder, totaling 30 years. But he only served half that because he was a perfectly behaved model prisoner. So he was released from prison where he -lived a totally crime free life for the rest of his days- tried to murder two more hikers for absolutely no reason.

It’s amazing how they let out prisoners like this early for ‘good behaviour’. Like of course he was well behaved, no hikers going through a prison. A bit like PDFiles who get out due to ‘good behaviour’…. No kids in prison…

If they'd figure out something else to do with people who don't have violence in their nature, something that's actually rehabilitative & addresses the drug and mental health crises, they could have plenty of room to keep Lyin Randall and people like him out of society. Every single American person & our visitors are all living at the mercy of these problems, whether they are dealing with them personally or not.

Those two men showed him nothing but kindness and friendship and he repayed them with evil. I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same to his original victims. That's why I never, EVER let someone make me feel guilty about not trusting people. It doesn't matter how kind and good you are to someone evil. If they're gonna hurt you, they're just gonna hurt you. And so I'm happy to be "paranoid" (i.e., untrusting and careful). There are still people these days who think that locking your doors/windows is paranoid, but monsters like this let me know otherwise. And the system is really funny in how they treat certain people. Dude took the lives of two people without provocation and they just let him out because he knew how to bide his time. Brilliant.

Honestly, you should not stop mistrusting people, until you know them well at least. I was an old fool last year and tried to help someone I didn't know to register his car. Gained a stalker, harasser, broke into my dying mom's apartment, threatened not just me but several other people. Police, as usual, can't do anything. Le sigh. I'm not trusting easily again. Tho it's pretty late to learn that at 46

Anything more I’m gonna need receipts…….I’ve put myself in incredibly stupid positions years ago when young and I’m still shocked I survived and relatively unscathed. I’m not stupid though, luck runs out. It’s looking bleaker in society from here on in, but I suppose my granny said the same in her day……👼 Now older and wiser, no way hose……I’ll chuck you a few bucks, some food or whatever but you WILL NOT be invited into my home or my life. Remember I’m older and wiser. The folk that make you feel guilty or bad are the very same folk that will try and use and abuse you.! I’d rather live a long and happy and fulfilled life alone, than a short and turbulent life with an abusing oppressor, or be murdered by a random. Be strong folk!❤ Us life survivors exist and send you “empowering be strong”thoughts. (# not a church or cult etc….🤥🤬🤑👎).

This is why I don't trust people and I don't go out of my way to help them. I'm not going to be ashamed for protecting myself. If it's not something like this it's someone getting fixated. Hell, back when I was in the States, you couldn't even smile at some people (or even be smiling to yourself) without them coming up trying to get something from you. An evil person doesn't need a reason. Once they mark you for execution, it doesn't matter what you do. They're gonna at least attempt to have their way.

There are many many murders and unexplained disappearances on the Appalachian Trail, a crazy creepy amount of them. Funny Jiles did this one because I just watched another video from a different creator about a different couple that was killed hiking it. This sounds like an absolute nightmare, two people out on a charity hike with no ill intention towards anyone, murdered for no reason. Personally, I think it was a sexually motivated crime, but as stated, it wasn't possible to determine due to the level of decomposition. It seems like Randall being the fantasist and liar that he clearly was, struggled with forming a relationship with the opposite sex and got his kicks murdering and possibly sexually assaulting his victims, who knows how many more are buried on the trail. A great story with good factual narration and a positive end. 🇬🇧

In murder cases, it should always be up to the family members to approve plea deals. Obviously, it wouldn't work because 99% of the time a family isn't going to let a murderer plead down the crime. BUT it would be nice to give families some control in a powerless situation.

Actually family members are quite often consulted about plea deals and frequently agree. The prosecutor explains to them why they're offering the plea deal and the difficulty they might face at a trial, so the family understands the possible benefit of the plea deal.

No problem. I try to make it at least a decibel or a lower than the rest of the audio. I switched to a different video editor not long ago and it the audio levels were off for a while, but I got it down now. Thanks for watching!

I am completely addicted to the intro music for this channel. Specifically, the 3 notes on the piano played over and over like C, B, A🎶over and over. And yet….when I play it on my grandmas organ I’m “annoying”. 😂 Edited to sound less macabre

Love the green thumbnail for the outdoors! There’s two things I wouldn’t set foot into the woods without. A GPS locator, *hat tip* to Mr. Paulides and my hand gun *hat tip* to the commander’s wife who took me to the range the day our husbands deployed and twice a week for a year. We always joked my husband was her gunner and she was mine. Man is the most scariest thing most likely to be encountered in the wild.

Okay Jiles with a J. Lol. I knew that was coming. You didn't mention the poor dog, but I think I heard that he was ok and adopted. Hope so. That monster already had enough innocent victims. Even not knowing for sure how many. Seriously evil that one. Thats the 2nd double murder that happened in that shelter... can't remember which one came first tho. Idk but I think I'd stay away from that whole area. Bad vibes. RIP all his victims. So glad the 2 men survived. Very brave. Also that lady and her son for helping them. Thank you Jiles🙏💔🕊️🐾 oh hey. Mustn't forget to thank the fabulously inadequate courts again! For letting the monster free for a repeat. Disgusting! At least he saved some trouble by offing himself.👹

How the heck is serving 15 years for TWO murders even allowed to be a sentence. That is just disgusting IMO 😡 15 years would be disgusting for even just one let alone TWO. It’s just so wrong and an absolute joke of a sentence/punishment.
