Ramana Maharshi Talks -Teachings In His Own Words - Audiobook - Lomakayu

This is text taken from Arthur Osborne wonderful book. Since starting these projects I have found it best to leave out commentaries and interpretations and just let these great masters speak in their own words. I think it allows a mood to sustain itself and their wisdom to slip past our conceptual minds.

They say when the pupil is ready the teacher will come. I’m so grateful to have Sri Ramana now in my life just at a time when my spiritual path was taking many confusing detours . His teachings are so simple. I don’t need to seek more.

“What it amounts to is that phenomena are real when experienced as the Self and illusory when seen apart from the Self.” - Sri Ramama Maharishi. Wow…

  • @tobiasdontmatter1868

    @tobiasdontmatter1868

    2 жыл бұрын

@@psjuxuen2064 I can’t tell you where he said it but I can explain how it is true. He’s saying that when temporary phenomena are experienced as self, AKA identified with, they are experienced as real. Now if we can talk in terms of a subject-object relationship phenomena are observed as an object in FRONT of the lense of perception so to speak. When we identify with a belief (a phenomenal thought), we BELIEVE that thought to be true, thus we are identified. It, metaphorically speaking, sneakily makes its way “behind” the lense of perception. Because this phenomena is observed (as an object) it is obviously not really behind the lense of perception because it is the observable, but we feel it to be that way when we unconsciously identify with it. It’s only when we’ve become conscious of a thought or belief that we realize “if I’m that belief over there then who’s observing “me” from over here” (without words). The ‘self’ you could say is behind the lense of perception, which is why looking for the self is foolish. Because what you are looking for is where you are looking from. You can never actually find it or observe it as an object, you can only BE it and “realize” it by seeing what you’re not. Hence “phenomena is seen to be illusory when seen to be apart from the self.”

At first person tries to recall his inner world and trying different types of practices and doings , but he easily forgets inner world when busy in world affairs. Then there comes a time when he will become tired of every practices and doings, .. and his sensitivity start to increase. Then there comes a time when his sensitivity becomes so deep that he does not need to remember his inner world but he will get reminder and messages from everything around him and whatever happening inside or outside of him. Everything drags him inside, and he becomes so deep that he starts to understand the inner language which is soundless and formless . Then there comes a time when he will become stunned, surprised by vast beauty , by unlimited joy vaster than any ocean , stillness deeper than any valley. Then he will see his face in the mirror and will be surprised that he never saw and met this person before and everything looks utterly new.

I think “Soul” would be a better translation of Atma than “Self”. You used both. Cool. (I also believe “knowing” and “self-knowing” would be better translations of jnani than “knowledge” and self-knowledge. They try to distinguish it from lower knowledge, but nothing about the word corresponds at all to knowledge (it is ongoing, it is in real time, it is beyond concepts, it continuous, it is intimate, etc). That is a knowing not some knowledge.)

If you're just discovering Ramana in the last week or so, congratulations and good graces on you for having the discernment to see truth for what it is. You were born with eyes that see and ears that truly hear. Must have traveled a long journey of lifetimes to reach this place of awareness. Im not going to get into truth because Maharshi says it best of all and it is not for being talked about. One can only talk around it anyway. Now the journey home to Samahdi, you've found the path of self enquiry now you simply follow the pointings until there is no you left to take another step. All trace of you will vanish and only the true Self will remain. Silence is bliss in the infinite ocean of awareness. There is no sweeter fruit, this is the fruit that gives true life. Have a blessed journey

Thank you for this. Ramana had true knowledge of what is TRUE and what is REAL. However, like many great masters and gurus, NONE have explained the REASON for this 'illusory world' or 'Dream world' that we're living in. They ALL talk about this 'body', this 'I', this 'Universe' not being the REAL, but NONE have explained WHY you HAVING this UNREAL experience. And I think that the REASON is the TRUE SECRET about GOD, THE SOURCE, or the MISTERY of 'Life'. Still waiting to hear an explanation....

Initially a person pretends that he is awake. Because he thinks that ,he knows more, he talks more , he struggles more he ask more, he does more. Then one day he sits deeply engrossed into him , Then suddenly he found that he is actually sleeping but not awake. Once someone in reality found that he is sleeping , then sound of wind, then sound of word, then small action , then small gesture make him awake. This sleep is very near to awakening.

A Taste of Ramanas Death. I had been focusing intently on Ramanas teachings and decided to lay down and experience death like he did. I became very quiet and turned all attention inward going into very subtle inquiry. My consciousness began to recede...it was like a disappearing. Yet it was not total and there was coming back to consciousness as a person. Yet there had been a taste of what dying really is and how it is not what anyone thinks, feels, or imagines. There is absolutely nothing to fear. Fear is an illusion of mind, it has no reality. Dying is consciousness receding back into its purest self, The Absolute.

Yes but the body does not have beliefs. The body IS itself a belief...it is created by the mind. Ramana says the outgoing mind is ego and the mind turned inwards is Ultimate Self. My taste of dying was the mind disappearing into pure consciousness, and therefore the body disappearing with it. It was not a complete experience, just a taste.

Thank you for sharing. Ten years ago the path of devotion brought self-realization to me but not in its totality. I did not know what had happened; I only knew I had no mind and I was in a state of happiness. Five days later at the insistence of another person who was terrified of my new state, talked me into closing down an opening above me that was to access the universe. I did and instantly my monkey mind was so much stronger. Nonetheless in those five days I learned some things that might help you explain to others what self-realization is. First your monkey mind is non-existent so during the time from one sentence that someone says to you until you respond you are in The Great Quiet. Your response comes not from the analytical mind which no longer is but directly from Divine Source. In other words instead of thinking sideways within your head with mind, your consciousness goes directly to Source from where all knowledge is available. I found your voice very soothing. I am very close to Ramana and his pictures often speak to me or change expression. He is always with me as is Jesus and others in whom mind died. Blessing dear soul.

After seeing truth, old ways of being are held up to the new knowledge and dissolve, completing the dissolution of ego. Helen Hamilton teaches how to do this in very clear and easy terms. She's on KZread. She's the most comprehensive teacher I've seen in this area....what to do after the truth is seen. It's actually another beginning when truth is finally seen.

Yes, when the pupil is ready, the master is ever present. This I learnt in the world famous book "AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI" of Swamy Paramhansa Yogananda. Our spiritual journey is incomplete if we have not read that life changing book which STEVE JOBS recommended in his high level meetings.

Sometimes a simple sentence can cause a shift in perspective. "There is no detailed process of creation" is one. It reminded me of the famous quote, "The devil is in the details". Combine the two and a sort of inner alchemy takes place. A 4d understanding.

His main teaching of self-inquiry seems to me to be leading to the simple realization, that the self (Atman?) within us is part of the eternal (Brahman/God?). I experienced this feeling first when I'm alone in the forest, when I listen to the wind, etc. I also then realize the illusion of time. I never put forth any effort to a certain goal either. I merely felt the need to connect with "the true world" as I like to call it. This also led me to observe nature very closely, and to observe the smallest things observable to the eye and to soak up all the detailed expressions of my surroundings. All the while, for years I wanted to lose my disgust and fear of spiders. I made it a habit to not kill them whenever I found them in my apartment anymore, but to gently put them out the door. I was leading myself towards a more gentle and peaceful life out of a drive from within myself to do so. All the while, dark, especially sexual, urges remained to be part of my soul. How does Maharshi’s method of self-inquiry fit in with our individual selves, Karma and Dharma? And how does this help me to find out about my true intentions as a human being and my Dharma, and how does it help me to explore my shadow? Even though since my transcendental insights on my long walks I have matured by shedding materialistic desires and to a fairly good extent the feeling of seperateness from other human beings, other desires, sexual and darker, mostly obscured tendencies don't seem to have left me. They visit me in my dreams and make their presence known. Anyone able to provide his or her own insight on these questions is greatly appreciated.

Indeed You might like this channel perhaps( the link's below). Its quality spiritual work. It definitely deserves more traffic. I said the same but reply came from the it's owner - "People whose Karama is ripe will find the teachings and others others may not find them as they not ready" - Jayasara The channel only has 92 subscribers as of now. It is my opinion, as a Hindu, as an Indian, that she's deserves more support, the Dharma is not as relevant in modern India in contrast to the great Indian civilization, whose cultural was based on spiritual principles, austerity and sacrifice. 'Modern' Indian culture, based Hollywood's and the Music industry's material conception of life pillared on fame, private fortune and luxury which may lead to a dangerous path of irreversible cultural and moral regression. So I'm a little impatient to wait for People "whose Karama is ripe" enoughto stumble on to such Channels that upload the spirit of the Dharma, by chance. kzread.info/dron/z6X8QK9_JG49hJxnzAu-1w.html

I Am grateful though i have some difficulty listening. The lack of demarcation between Questions and Answers means they are running into one another, creating confusion and requiring constant rewinds to clarify. Also, the often incorrect auto-generated subtitling of Sanskrit terms is an impediment for those of “us” with hearing impairments. Thanx

"Shri Ramana Maharshi was one of the most significant people of this century. He was not a master; that’s why people don’t know him as they know George Gurdjieff or J. Krishnamurti. They don’t even know him as they know Sri Aurobindo or P. D. Ouspensky who were only teachers - profound teachers, but not mystics. “Ramana Maharshi was a silent pool of energy. Every morning he used to sit for a silent satsang, communion. He never talked much, unless asked something. Then too his answer was very short - having profundity, but you had to look for it. There was no explanation in it. His literature is confined to two, three small booklets. “His teaching was mostly to be in silent communion with the disciples. Naturally, very few people were benefited by him. But every morning he was sitting, people were sitting, and a cow would come and stand outside, putting her neck through the window, and she would remain standing there while the satsang lasted. It must have continued for years. People came and went, new people came, but the cow remained constant, coming at the exact time, never late. “As the satsang would disperse she would move away. “One day she did not appear, and Shri Ramana said, “Today satsang cannot be held, because my real audience is absent. I am afraid either the cow is very sick or she has died, and I have to go and look for her.” He lived on a mountain in the south of India, Arunachal. The cow belonged to a poor woodcutter who lived near the ashram. Ramana left the temple where they used to meet, went to the woodcutter and asked, ‘What happened? The cow has not come today for satsang.’ “The woodcutter said, “She is very sick and I am afraid she is dying, but she goes on looking out of the door, as if she is waiting for someone. Perhaps she is waiting for you, to see you for the last time. Perhaps that is why she is hanging around a little longer.” “Ramana went in and there were tears in the eyes of the cow. And she died happily, putting her head in the lap of Ramana Maharshi. This happened just in this century. Ramana declared her enlightened, and told his people that a beautiful memorial should be made for her. It is very rare for human beings to be enlightened; it is almost impossibly rare for animals to become enlightened, but the cow attained. “She will not be born again. From the body of a cow she has bypassed the whole world of humanity, and she has jumped ahead and joined with the buddhas. So once in a while - there are a few instances only - it has happened. But that cannot be called the rule; it is just the exception."

Two questions for my fellow seekers. 1. Does all creativity ie; Musical masterpieces, art masterpieces, worldclass cuisines etcetera brought forth by humanity, does it rise from consciousness or ego? 2. How does one get rid of incessant inner dialogue? Thank you.

Everything rises from the self and dissolves in the self, the world is in the self, it is not separate from the self. Focus/Meditate on 'Who am I' and the thoughts/dialogues will subside. When a though arises find out whome did this thought occur to? the answer will be 'it occured to l', then question 'Who am I', as you continue, thoughts will subside and the true self will be revealed. Abide in the true self -All these are the words of Maharshi Ramana.
