Brian wrote this for the Highlander movie. I think Queen wrote most of their soundtrack. But after Highlander and Flash, the rest of Hollywood got on board, and now every Hollywood movie has a Queen song on it/s. Lol.

I finally watched the Highlander - and I wanted to hear MORE of the songs, I wondered how it could work, but I can see why it carved out a niche for fans. One Year of Love is the take away small song (on the radio) that just soarsl Features Freddie & John, written by John. Only a lyric video out there, but golly.

The live version at Wembley 1986 is very emotional too. And before the song Freddie addresses the audience and rumors about the band breaking up and says that the band will be together until they die and then launches into this song. Which makes it more emotional.

Never mind the tears my friend, they make us clean and free. What a day! You picked up 2 of their greatest songs, thank you. Listening to these two songs right today means a lot to me, because it's a very sad day and your choices ensured a perfect frame to it. Who Wants To Live Forever is about the immortality of the hero in the Highlander movie in which Sean Connery and Cristopher Lambert played the main roles.

To get some context to the song it was written for "The Highlander" starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponents, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize".

I love the orchestra with too. Who wants to live forever when those you love have to age and die and you don't? That is where this title and refrain come from in the movie Highlander. Queen had so many heartfelt songs and they all poured everything into their songs, especially Freddie. He can touch your very soul with his passionate presentations. I was born 2 years after Freddie but never was aware of him and the band until about 3 years ago. Something about him popped up on my news feed and I Googled his name. The first thing I ever watched was a video of Made In Heaven. This was a solo work by Freddie and the video is pretty wild. It involves Freddie standing on a giant sphere singing away while a bunch of naked people (they're not really naked but have on costumes to appear so) are writhing around below. At one point Freddie flies. You must watch it. I was totally mesmerized by his beautiful, powerful voice and his energy and have been a fan ever since. Accept no substitutes for this video! After Freddie died the band did an album using the title of Freddie's song and they added in some Queen elements, it's good but this was Freddie's creation done Freddie's way and I like it best.

There are two songs you must react to; 1. Freddy was in his lakeside home in Switzerland during the winter and he was deteriorating and losing his eyesight but he wrote his final song during that visit and it is soooo beautriful..........when he got back to London he decided to stop all his meds except for pain and got ready to die...it's called A Winter's Tale...........the other is the last song he fully recorded, he died weeks later.......called The Show Must Go On; written by Brian, but Freddie added some key lyrics relating to his pending death....it was one of the most difficult songs and Brian didn't think he could sing it........and I think it is one of his best vocals!!! It is magnificent; albeit, very sad.

This is from a movie scene, where an immortal have to go through life seeing the people he loves grow old and die. Very emotional scene, and a wonderful song. I think it is one of those songs that only becomes more powerful as you grow older, and start experiencing loss.

Thanks for your heartfelt reaction! 👍 As other have shared, this song was written by Queen’s guitarist, Brian May, for the movie Highlander. Queen did all of the vocal tracks for Highlander that also included: A Kind of Magic (a slower version of the song that is substantially different than the studio version), Princes of the Universe, One Year of Love, and a couple of other tracks. Queen performed Who Wants to Live Forever during their 1986 Magic Tour. Please react to a live version of Who Wants to Live Forever. Freddie sings the entire song and it is extremely dramatic. My favorite version is the 1986 Budapest performance but some reactors have had trouble with posting this version so the next best is the 1986 Wembley performance. You REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to check out the Highlander movie. The movie is about a man who learns he is immortal and ultimately has to fight other immortals to win the prize. You will then fully grasp the meaning behind this song. Another great video from the Highlander soundtrack is Princes of the Universe, it is a fantastic banger!
