Brian wrote this amazing song for the Queen Soundtrack for the movie Highlander. The main character in the movie is immortal and he has spent his life watching everyone he loves age and die while he remains young and strong. At this point, his wife, the absolute love of his life, has gotten old and he sees her life slipping away. That scene was Brian's inspiration for writing this song.

Yes it’s hard to keep coming up with superlatives when it comes to Queen. Brian once remarked that when you’re a songwriter, you’re writing for someone to sing your songs. Finishing, he remarked when you have Freddie Mercury singing your songs, you’re damn lucky.

Oh Risby, you WANT me to write ANOTHER BOOK?? How has Queen influenced my life?? My God, how have they NOT!! Since I first heard "BoRhap" on the pressroom stereo that night at work in Dallas, the radio station played the entire NIGHT AT THE OPERA album for the first time in the U.S., I was HOOKED... I could not get enough, went out and bought all their previous albums, learned about them, what kind of people they were, everything!! They were like family... albeit 'across the pond.' Every song they sing emits emotions, changes your soul, every time you hear it again, it awakens a new feeling, which is why I feel their music NEVER gets old, it's timeless! Also why Freddie -- and ALL the other members too -- are LEGENDS because we as fans will never let the music die out... we will keep enjoying all their songs and loving all those feelings... Now that I am retired, I love to listen to reactors on KZread introduce more future musicians to Queen's "MAGIC OF MUSIC" to more and more generations of, hopefully, new fans of Queen... The song you just played was one of several written for the soundtrack of a great movie called "The Highlander"... check out some more of the songs on that album... they're also very powerful, and poignant... "One Year of Love", written by the bass player, John Deacon, "A Kind of Magic", written by the drummer, Roger Taylor, or "Gimme the Prize", another powerhouse of a song by Freddie... thanks for all you do for us... and I'm praying you hit your goal by this time next week!! Congrats dear ... blessings.

This song is just so beautiful! I’ve been listening to Queen since I was about 12 years old! They are so diverse and every song is so unique. To this day, Brian and Roger are still amazing in concert. It made me sad when John decided he couldn’t do it without Freddie. Losing Freddie was such a blow to the world. He was so talented. Here’s wishing you much success in achieving your goals! Keep Queen on your playlist!❤

The Bohemian Rhapsody movie led me to the Queen's music and I fall in love with them. Nobody knew in London in the late 60s', that the shy Freddie Bulsara will became the GOAT frontman. I think the music was his drive that always recharged his batteries to the full. Freddie and Brian were the most prolific writers in the band, then Roger and John, but they all were able to write no. 1 hits. Roger said: „We could all write songs, but Freddie was born to it. He constantly surprised us. I still don’t know where some of his lyrics came from, they’re so clever. I never saw Freddie read a book, but he must have been a great black hole of information. That’s why Brian and I haven’t made more new music since he died, because we know we wouldn’t bring the full arsenal that we had to the table.”

I am from UK only subscribed few days now and loved your reaction to this beautiful song your reaction was so good I watched it twice. I was mid 70s baby I heard queen first time at 8 years old thats 40 + years ago when they came to my city in the bowl milton keynes uk in 1982. I can hear the concert from my bedroom and I had no idea who was singing but from that day I became a huge fan. Queen had huge impact in my life as I didn't have a very happy and safe childhood at home or school and also not a good buta toxic marriage and I would always turn to my music which was only queen and I would get lost to there music queen was and still is my save havan, place to go mentally. In 2014 I was diagnosed stage 3 breast cancer and throu out my treatment including hospital stays before and after operations and even at home when I have my chemo sessions and during the night kept awake from the sickness and pain I would just listen to queen and due to the treatment i was diagnosed with neuropathic nerve damage which causes so many side effects. 3 years ago I had a stroke and again when my kids could not be with me due to covid I would put my phone on my pillow and quietly listen to queen. This band got me through so much heartache and mentally put me in a safe and happy place. When we heard freddie passed away my world crashed as I was only 1 exam away from finishing school and my 1st goal was to get a job ASAP and save up and go to see queen perform in concert but sadly I regret i didn't get that chance. Today my kids tell me I have am obsession with the band as I have collected so much memrobellia over the years and have every album on CD aswell as vinyl including the 2 special editions which was only released last year on vinyl I also have a replica leather yellow jacket he wore at he's wemberly concert in 1986 and of course there concerts on dvd. I regret everyday I didn't get to see freddie perform but it also makes me presheate freddie and rest of the band music every time there music is played.

You should check out the official video from the Queen site because Brian sings the first verse and part of one of the choruses. There is also a symphony orchestra and a children's choir. The spectacle is worth a reaction to a song you have already heard. The live verses the official video is a matter of some contention amongst some fans. They are different enough in format and form to appreciate both. And how often do you get to hear Brian sing? The first time I heard Queen was when I was 12. The kid I baby sat loved Queen and blared all the newest albums when they came out. I grew up with the band and their music. It's everywhere even today. Go to any sports arena and you will hear stomp stomp clap by the crowd to we will rock you.

Highlander and Flash Gordon. Two cheesefest movies (that does not mean that I don't like them) that greatly benefited from the music of Queen. This song plays over a scene in which Conner MacLeod (the main lead) is remembering his first wife's passing of old age. "I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And I am immortal."

I think this is the first time I've seen Freddie perform a song live almost identically to the recording. I'm assuming that it was because it was new and part of a soundtrack. It's incredibly beautiful. You really, really, really need to do White Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon. It's equally beautiful and it will break your brain. 🤯 The first time I ever heard Queen was Killer Queen when I was in 7th grade. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't new because Bohemian Rhapsody came out that year but I had just discovered good (rock) music. From there I heard Liar and Tie Your Mother Down and I've been a die hard fan since. Yes, I'm aware that I just dated myself.

To my knowledge, there are 3 popular versions of this song. This Live version; the official video, with full choir, the boys playing classical instruments and Brian doing the first verse; and my wife's favorite, the movie version. This falls into my top ten movies of Chick Flicks that Guys love too. You need to watch it with a loved one. This song comes on as the main character is watching his long time true love dies of old age while he is still young. It finishes as she asks him to always light a candle on her birthday...and Kleenex are distributed to all.

Not to mention besides Brian May being a killer guitarist/songwriter in Queen he's also a pretty bright guy too! Seeing Brian is a rocket scientist having a PhD in Astrophysics & a Chancellor of a University. Oh, he was also knighted by the King of England recently so I'm a little confused as to how to address him anymore. Mr. May, Dr. Brian, Sir Brian May...? This is one of my favorites, and this isn't even Freddie singing it at his best! He was having sore throat issues, apparently, and wasn't singing some parts in the highest octave that he usually does. This song seems very sad to me, because I'm almost positive that Freddie knew he was dying by then. I don't know if anyone told you, Freddie Mercury died of AIDS during the epidemic that killed thousands and thousands. It was a death sentence back then. People did not start surviving the disease until Magic Johnson contracted it later after Freddie's death.
