    Helpful hint. When you’re cutting 10 panels like that you can stack them 8 or 10 at a time and cut them with a Skil saw, it’s so much quicker And it’s easy to make a straight edge to get them perfect

    How about making a galley on wheels, to prevent dragmarks on the planks? Forming it as a tripod, to make sure it does not tilt when dragging the wheels should make it usable.

    I built a 20ft beam, 3-1/2 by 13 in for the front of a loafing shed, and had to haul it about 1/3 of a mile. One end on the back of the tractor, the other end on a harbor freight handtruck with the 13in wheels. Back of the handtruck tied tight under the beam. Worked well but my ground is flat.

    A loft should not be installed on walls. Walls carry the load of the roof (dead load) and snow (live load). A loft should have it's own independent framing to transfer the loft load to the foundation. Also the tin panels should have been caulked between the overlap to prevent leaks.

    Thanks for watching. I've installed grand rib 3 tin panels for about 30 years now, sealant is optional on endlaps, but not a bad idea. I did use butyl tape on the translucent panels. At one point I ran out and came back after filming and installed the rest. As far as the loft, im going to have to respectfully disagree there. I have a 100 year old tobacco barn on my property that had a hay loft added about 40 years ago. The loft ledger is nailed to the walls and has been holding tons of hay (live load) every year with blizzard snows. Bare in mind the cabin loft isn't designed to hold much weight. Keep watching your will see the framing continue to develop as I go. Im thinking propane heat for now. Thanks again for watching God bless

    Corey Smith I’d be more concerned with a storm sending a tree branch through it. I guess it doesn’t get hot there because there’s no way this roof could be insulated.

    @@johnkidd2067 Hello, I seen a viewer above ask about how well the Palpam/Sunsky will hold up to hailing. I am a roofing manufacturer and carry Sunsky products. They hold up to the most damaging storms, Hail, limbs, debris etc.... I currently have a garage that I have placed 52 of the translucent Sunsky panels in and have withstood the worst hail storms I've seen in many years. I replaced 32 sheet of the metal roofing due to damage but the Sunsky panel were unharmed and still doing their job.

    nibblers are nice but wouldn't a skilsaw with a metal cutting blade be so much faster to make your cuts on the corrugated roofing? Just a question.

  • @johnkidd2067

    @johnkidd2067

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I've used both. The noise and flying metal alone make a skilsaw or grinder a completely unpleasant experience. Plus if the cut edge gets to hot itll rust.

    Gary I agree. Most of the time I slap these panels up with the minimum amount of screws then have Sergio come back and screw the whole roof down. But this thing was so step we screwed as we went. I came back later and doubled those ends. Good eye! Thanks for watching!

    Love this project! We're shopping for a mill now to build an off-grid retirement cabin. You mentioned using poplar for siding. I'm assuming you are referring to quaking aspen (locally "poplar", "popple", "quakey", etc) - do you plan to put some type of finish on it? We have a ton of it on the old family farm, so we were going to use it for framing, but it doesn't like to be wet, so we hadn't considered it for siding. Thanks, & keep up the good work!

  • @johnkidd2067

    @johnkidd2067

    4 жыл бұрын

    Idk about the popple. I think its aka cotton wood. Big straight. Soft hardwood. We may finish it but it does just fine to weather grey. It can be used as framing material as well. I have a couple 50 year old tobacco barns rhat are built 100% with it. Its certainly not as strong as oak though. I highly recommend a Wood-mizer. And hydraulics if you can afford it! Thanks for watching!

  • @randynelson7147

    @randynelson7147

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the info! Yeah, cottonwood would be similar. Considered a "junk" wood now, but we've got a lot of it, & if we can use it, we sure will. Sure doesn't make very good firewood... About like white pine for strength vs. weight, so should make good framing. Who knows, by the time we get a mill & get ready, we may have enough hemlock big enough for siding - won't need too awful much. We'll see. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out! Thanks again!
