    I have 2 pairs of these in my front stage at my business, along with a custom built 6th order bandpass subwoofer system with 2 kicker solobaric subs tuned to compliment these speakers. The whole system is clean and powerful down to 35 hz. It's a beautiful sound that can fill a 800 sq ft room with ease. Balanced sound, bass you can feel and very clean. The room feels alive when you crank it.

    They look really good. The price is not bad either. Clean is the way I like it. Even clinical is great. Because that means I got total freedom on how I tune it with EQ. Thanks for another great review. You truly are the best when it comes to audio reviews. I love how you actually review them with a "normal" perspective using normal terms. Many of these "audiophile" review channels have drunk too much snake oil and would dislike these already because they don't cost a grand and lack fancy names and "technologies".

    "Many of these "audiophile" review channels have drunk too much snake oil and would dislike these already because they don't cost a grand and lack fancy names and "technologies"." Yeah, yet these same snobs are also the same people, who would covet a $3,000.00 dollar active monitor system, that caters to the "quick-fix" nature of the average Joe Blow, by bragging about how they've developed exclusive technology to make streaming music (that is highly compressed, to begin with!) from a smartphone, via Bluetooth, into these pricey gizmos have a beyond-compare audio fidelity!

    Hey Joe, I'm enjoying your reviews. They are helping with my first home theater build. For a 2.1 system (3.1 or 5.1 in a few months) should I get these Alpha P5s or the Q Acoustiscs 3030i? 80/20 movies/music ratio. I'm down to those two I think. Powered by a Denon 1600h. 10x13 room with a single chair as the focus (bedroom). I'm also factoring in how good the matching center will be when I get one. Thanks!

    Very nice review and I'm thinking of getting a pair. Then, I saw your Elac UB5 review and now leaning to get that one. My problem is, will it be compatible with my yamaha rx-v1400 reciever? The Elac UB5 is 4ohm speaker. You have reviewed both. Is the UB5 worth the extra dollars compared to PSB Alpha p5? In my country UB5 $530 and p5 $380. Or Can you recommend one that can produce a very good soundstage.. Im very new to audio world. Hoping for your reply, even just a sentence or two. Forgive the long txt. I just subscribed to your channel and truely enjoyed the way you review these speakers. Best, Charlie

Trying to find the best stereo music SQ I can get in a desktop regardless of price and it's proving to be a bit of a challenge. I prefer a warmer sounding speaker, but most good desktop speakers seem to be have a classic mixing monitor sound. Open for any suggestions you might have! BTW, I really love that you have a separate category for desktop, it has become very relevant these days. Hey Joe I was hoping to ask you a question. Why can't anyone use speakers of this type for surround and atmos? I just don't understand what is the difference. Even svs has specific atmos speakers that as far as I could tell is the same driver as bookshelf speakers. Only real difference is cost. Atmos more expensive. Can't you just get a bookshelf type speaker and adjustable bracket and it be the same or better??

    I'm always honest! I use SVS Elevation for my height speakers. Those make me feel more comfortable because they're designed to be up there. They're also angled. For surrounds on a wall, you could use either. Preferably, you want your speakers to match tonality with the rest of your speakers.

    @@joentell Yes. I didn't mean to offend just I prefer honesty. I do agree though for tonality. I know they make or you can make adjustable mounts so you would be able to angle speakers above. 3 жыл бұрын

    It's ok. I've tried the P5 at my desk with the SA300. They sounded good, but a bit bass shy in on my desk. I think studio monitors are still the best for a desktop. I use the Hercules Monitor 5 because they sound excellent, they're quiet, they have balanced and unbalanced inputs, and they have volume and power one each speaker. They also are inexpensive and they have adjustments depending on whether you want to adjust the tonality. bit.ly/HerculesMonitor5 Affiliate link. ☺️

  • @joentell

    @joentell

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't believe that a good amplifier should drastically change the sound of a speaker. Low power amps just typically distort when the bass hits which causes them to sound thin. The SA300 can play more than loud enough especially near-field.

    In your humble opinion (or maybe, drawing from experience), with DSP in mind, given that I have a Nakamichi CA-5 preamp/Yamaha MX-1 power amp (both very good pieces of audio equipment), would I be better served sonically by going with these P5s being driven by my preamp/amp combo, or do you think it's possible that the DSP that PSB might implement in an active version of the P5 (the Alpha AM5) could actually yield the best sound?

  • @joentell

    @joentell

    3 жыл бұрын

    I would take your system and add a MiniDSP 2x4 HD to it and then use REW with UMIK-1 to get the best possible sound out of your system. Add a sub if you want. The MiniDSP can also time align, crossover, and phase match the sub to the main speakers. (People complain about adding subs to their 2-channel systems because they don't have a way to add delays to the main channels to compensate for the delays most subs add. That's why they claim that it sounds "slow" or it doesn't integrate well. You need a way to properly integrate them and that's what the MiniDSP can do. I made this video a while back that explains how I use DSP kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmWVu9WjgMaYnZc.html

    Hey, I watched that video that you linked, and I'll have to make it a point to experiment with such technique. For the present, however, I've been long since taking the 'use-my-ears-approach'. More specifically, I use Equalizer APO, and I have about 70 or so EQ points. I know, it sounds totally unorthodox!!! But, I feel that I just have so, so much control over shaping the sound to EXACTLY what my ears want to hear from my speaker, and when you've heard you're favorite songs a million or so times, over 50+ yrs., ya kind of know just how it's supposed to sound, in my opinion! With all what I said above, however, do you feel that I may get better results from an active version of the speaker, instead of the passive version, given that the manufacturer probably, has already engineered some DSP in their speaker already?

  • @joentell

    @joentell

    3 жыл бұрын

    I've seen the review and actually looking at the measurements last night. My measurements closely track his Predicted In-Room Measurement so we are definitely reviewing the same speaker. He really thought they were much worse than I thought they were. I didn't find them that offensive. I am just happy that we have an objective point of reference. It tells me his definition of good is much more strict than mine and that's totally fine. For me, I'm taking more time to listen to them, factoring the looks, build, fit & finish, and price. Considering how they objectively measure and how they sound, I don't think they're horrible or anything. But I also didn't put them at the top of my speaker leaderboard bit.ly/SpeakerLeaderboard so that should tell you that I didn't think they were perfect either.

  • @joentell

    @joentell

    3 жыл бұрын

    Measurements may not take into account aesthetics, value, build quality etc. How much weight you put on each criteria is different for every person too. There will always be a subjective side to reviewing because it's a human reviewing the product. I just think that more objective measurements only help. It's not either or, it's both supporting the other.
