A word of caution regarding the grilles. They are great grilles, but be careful. The magnets are very strong. I have the T20 towers, which are also great speakers by the way. If you try to line up the grills perfectly after putting them back on, they can leave marks on the bottom or top of the grilles where the magnets are. Not scratches, and the marks are hard to see, but marks nonetheless. This is what happened when I got a little sloppy taking the grills off and putting them back on.

I have both, Danny and overall I prefer the Denton 80th due to the more meaty mids and but the PSB's are very enjoyable too. I do find the bass on the PSB's a bit boomy if placed to close to the wall behind them. I also just got a hold of some NHT Super One 2.1's, a sealed-box design that also quite nice.

Compared to Wharfedale 225 - how is the bass response and crossing from mids to highs? I find Wharfedale 225 highs - extremely laidback and falling behind mids and bass. Forces me to increase treble so the highs "come closer".

Thinking about these as possible speakers. Don't want to spend alot for "higher end speakers because I typically listen at low to moderate sound levels. It my experience, less expensive speakers can compete with more expensive counterparts at lower volume levels. That being said, how do they render piano tones and overtones, decay etc.? As well as male and female voice, small jazz, blues ensembles, sonatas, folk all the way to concertos, with the occasional large symphony, classic rock and Norwegian Heavy Metal? Also, how are they for 2 channel TV for dialog and soundtrack? Compared to Whafedale Denton 80th, is it real close or does one have greater advantages in this regard?I have both Focal 807 and Deftech sm45, I enjoy both. The Focals being much better in detail, focus and soundstage, overall, etc but the little deftechs hold their own and were preferred over Kef Q100s as well as many other small monitors...paradigms, martin logan, and so on. I am not one to sit in one position and like good sound wherever I am in the room, hence off axis performance. Something about 11-12 inch speakers I find appealing. In comparison, I've had Monitor Silver bookshelves I thought were great for piano and voice but not for viewing video in 2 channel or rock. Thanks for any help from you or your listeners for their experience. My preference is a more forward but not harsh sound, dynamic with as much of a 3-d soundstage as is possible given all considerations. Amplification I use is excellent, more expensive than speakers I own. Even the cheaper amps I have are good. So. in a nutshell, the most musically engaging at low to moderate volumes, small bookshelf all rounder for a relatively low price that holds its own even with the likes of the LS50s. Other opinions and speaker recommendations welcome.

  • @Tharbamar

In my opinion PSB P5 is one of the best without any bright sound, Denton 80th anniversary speakers were more forward sounding speakers. Like I said in the video good balance sound quality is the sound signature of P5 speakers, I think this little P5 will let you enjoy all your music genres more than any other speakers in the price range, I will be making video of comparisons between P5 & LS50 in the future, thanks

@ N C, you should consider getting the psb imagine XB bookshelves. The P5 retail for $450 and the XB $600 (in canada). The xb is a step up from the p5 and will probably blow you away. Not saying the p5 wont but for the extra $150 its a fantastic speaker. I had monitor audio bronze 2 before i got the psb for some of the same reasons you were stating and they have exceeded my expectations. They handle everything i can throw at them without skipping a beat. They're better choices for HT but for music they perform above their price point.

Tharbamar good afternoon. Be sincere in your opinion, as I trust your advice. If you were to make a purchase, which model would you buy? The PSB Alpha P5 or Wharfedale Diamond 220? In Portugal the Wharfedale Diamond 225 left the sale market. I can still buy the diamond 220 model. To help my decision, I have Rotel and Denon amplifiers. CD player Denon. I listen to all kinds of music especially I give priority to musical tastes where the human voice is highlighted. Musical style that I hear most as an example Grace mahya. However, I don't listen to pop or rock. I like calm vocal music and I give a lot of importance to speakers with a high sweet and musical sound. In my opinion, Denon is a good amplifier for listening to music rich in human voices and very musical. The Rotel provides privileges to listen to musical instruments especially the piano, electric guitar and saxophone. Big hug from Portugal

Yes thats the another way of favoring P3ESR or LS3/5A speakers but music quality is very subjective, are they talking about the whole musical spectrum or only factoring Midrange to Highs, if you look at 3 speakers from different perspective those speakers doesn't have ability in dynamic range, sound stage and bass performance of LS50 speakers, I will do detail review one day.

JBL 230 is nice sounding speakers with a little v shpae sound signature P5 offers good balance sound quality, it’s a bit more refined than 230.
