Proper Way to Stretch Hamstrings
I often see people stretching hamstrings, not in the most effective way. People tend to focus on bending forward to stretch hamstrings. However, when you round your back (tilt pelvis posteriorly), you are actually shortening hamstrings instead of lengthening. So, if you want to stretch effectively, all you need to do is tilt pelvis anteriorly to lengthen hamstrings. No need to bend forward and reach down.

Wow, this works perfectly. Once done I feel and itching in both calves which lets me know that nerves and muscles were fully engaged. Perfect for my sedentary lifestyle with lots of sitting. Thanks again, Taro.
Fantastic tutorial, thanks!
My husband was RCMP and from sitting in the car and driving all day his back was in horrible pain. Once I finally talked him into stretching tge hamstrings it was so much better. I am following all your exercises to rehab that broken hip and shoulder. Thank you!!!

Thanks for all the tips and taking the time to explain why the various stretches work. Stretching has never been easier but most important, most effective. At 60 plus I feel like I did when 40!

Take a short run just for fun! Obviously walk first to warm up. Use it or lose it. An observation from a retired guy who notices many people never leave contact with the ground unless they are in a hurry. When we are young our spirit is light. Stay light and have fun.....

"... never leave contact with the ground" as in dragging their feet along? And you mean that's bad?

@@weihawang4246 When we run or use a jump rope we briefly and rhythmically are not in contact with the ground which is natural. I did not think of dragging the feet but would consider that poor gait. A quick look at the soles of footwear shows imbalances.

It is ESSENTIAL TO WARM UP before any kind of stretching!!! Gentle standing leg swings are great, or a 10 minute walk, whatever. COLD MUSCLES DON'T STRETCH; THEY TEAR! :)

I tried this, the stretch was good, but I've come away with a mild hyper-extension of my knee.
Can you show how you do it when standing ?! 🙏

Thank you for your great work.I am also a teacher that moves people and looking for Feldenkrais lessons to use in my Pilates work. Some time ago you had a lesson in stretching hammies. It was a elbows on knees position. Thank you! Yes I have a video showing how to properly stretch hamstrings. I did not remove it. Are you referring to another video? I dont recall removing any videos though..

Yes it was from elbows or hands on knees From there you straighten one arm and back to starting position Interested in your variety and moves for different groups of people

@@ivogelaar8635 I will have to go back to my videos. Could it be the one where I was exploring movements while keeping elbows on the floor?
