Neck pain relief SECRET that REALLY works | Feldenkrais Style

In this video I am teaching a short Feldenkrais movement lesson that will help improve coordination between head/neck and chest. Improving this coordination and awareness will improve functions of neck significantly and can reduce neck pain.
Got neck pain when turning your head?
Is the problem in the neck? Because neck muscles are too tight or joints are too stiff? Pinched nerve? Arthritis? Tendonitis?
While you may have those conditions that are affecting your neck mobility, it's far more beneficial to improve overall relationship between your neck and other parts such as your chest, ribs, thoracic spine, etc, than to focus on your symptomatic area (neck in this case).
In this video I am guiding a short mindful movement lesson/exercise that focuses on improving the relationship between head/neck and chest in a rotational plane (turning head).
When you start connecting with YOUR BODY and move slowly and pay attention to your body, you will start to understand YOUR BODY and optimal movement and posture for YOUR BODY from the inside out, in a way no one can understand. YOUR BODY only belongs to YOU. Only you can access your internal resources that is AWARENESS!

You said a magic word-nervous system. The exercise was very effective. I had to ask myself why I couldn’t manage that level of comfort and ease with my own stretching, and with gained knowledge of how to move. My nervous system is very taxed from physical and emotional issues. So standard stretching doesn’t address the source of tension. Or lets say that standard stretching isnt effective, because my nervous system is trained to respond a certain way to ingrained movement, thereby reinforcing chronic pain. Your method seems to bypass my ingrained damaging nerve pathways, and give my body another avenue for movement. Still just turning my neck, but thinking about it differently. Organizing the body parts attached to the neck in such a way that the neck is not isolated as a disfunctional link, but integrated as part of a well functioning whole. Thank you!!

Wow, Sharon. Thank you for your comment. This describes me so accurately, I have rarely been able to put my experience in the proper words, however you said it perfectly. I tried this movement and felt it the most in my back at the right shoulder, which is a problem area. I am using Taro's videos to help me retrain my body and my nervous system to handle moving properly, in the right form, and without pain. My body keeps naturally reverting to 'ingrained' movements trying to keep me safe, (as it adapted over years of stress and trauma)and I have to push through the discomfort, nausea and awkwardness to 'teach' my nervous system new ways of moving that it can perceive as safe and healthy, though it is uncomfortable at the moment. My body reacts strongly to new movements, but I take it slow and persist. Thank you for the encouragement I derived from your comment. Thank you Taro for the reminders to go slow and easy and pay attention to how the movement feels.

I woke up with horrible neck and shoulder pain with a migraine and I remembered your videos, (which I just recently discovered), so I did several of your videos for neck, shoulder pain and flexibility, including this one and amazingly, just as the first time I tried your instructions through your videos, I instantly felt better. Over the years, due to herniated discs in my neck, I had been sent to PT and every time, I ended up worse, with more pain and stiffness. Your videos and instructions are amazing and a blessings. Thank you so much.

I suspect that my dysfunctional movements became deeply ingrained through language. Like when people say to me, "Turn your head to the right" or "Turn your neck to the left," I always take that literally without incorporating any subtle movements that originate from my upper torso. After I did this video exercise with you, I resolved to "turn from the sternum" the next time I feel the urge to "turn my head" or "turn my neck." I think that new phrase will be a quick and easy way for me to remember this video lesson in real life as I go about everyday activities. Thank you, Taro, for your generosity and eloquence. I've learned so much from you!

Thank you, I actually was skeptical with this exercise(as I have watched many youtube videos that dont work) but my neck motion actually had better mobility after this. Great stuff :D

WOW 1st time turning head to the right I could feel the pull all the way down back on right side of spine. It was really uncomfortable. Turning to the left was fine. After turning sternum then adding neck to it a few times, the right side of my back calmed down significantly. I wish i lived in Washington so I could come see you. Every exercise you have for us is easy to do and helps immensely.

Wow! It’s amazing what an immediate effect this had! I also found it a good exercise to coordinate my breathing and be continuously mindful of the need to adjust my posture to be able to relax. Thank you Taro!

This one has had the biggest obvious effect but also hardest to stay integrated. Love it though, I can breathe again. My ribs weren’t moving at all just a few weeks ago. Thought I must have a neurodegenerative disease but my initial feeling was right that it was just a tension/movement issue. Thank u again 🙏🏼

Great 👍 never thought of the movement of sternum will help the head to move so easily. Thanks Taro.
