ERB Patreon here. Yeah, when they were doing the Rodan model, I told NicePeter that the model didn’t really look like Rodan and that they had something too dragonlike. Pete agreed with me and I think this was his solution to that problem. Which is, hide it a little bit. If you look, his tail is lost below the sunset.

Jessie Smollet was fired from a TV show called "Empire" after faking the assault. Hence referencing him following the line "how did dropping off the Empire feel?" Also Death Row Records was one of the early hip hop labels, and they are where Snoop Dogg got his start. So that line has two references.

According to the ERB WIki, the "as old as death row" reference is also due to a fact that in 1933 a man named Giuseppe Zangara was sentenced to death for attempting to assassinate President Franklin D. Roosevelt and had to be moved to a separate cell in the prison he was placed in, hence why it became known as death row. 1933 was of course the year the original King Kong movie was released as well.

"From the depths of the sea" at the beginning of Goji's first verse is also a Snoop reference, hence Kong's rebuttal with his own Snoop references. Donkey Kong was indeed meant to be Bluto, but the line of Nintendo making an ass of King Kong goes deeper with Nintendo winning a court case over the naming of Donkey Kong being too similar, a case won if I'm not wrong by the very lawyer Kirby was named after.

There was indeed a presidential assassination attempt in 1933 against Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the assassin, Giuseppe Zagara, was put to death by electric chair. Bur capital punishment has been existent in the United States since the 1600's so I'm not sure I quite understand "as old as death row".

But Eminem's biggest hit in recent years in collaboration with Juice WRLD and Mike Tyson was a song called Godzilla, which contains his CURRENT fastest verse. So it's a reference to two songs

Honestly, the 98 movie is what introduced me to Godzilla so I have a soft spot for it. It was Japanese composer Akira Ifukube who had the idea to use a musical instrument to create the shriek we all know. "It was actually a double bass, using a leather glove coated in pine-tar resin to create friction," Aadahl says. "They'd rub it against the string of the double bass to create that sound." The 98 Godzilla reproduced through parthenogenesis.

Alexander The Great", "Gordon Ramsay Vs. Julia Child", "Steve Jobs Vs. Bill Gates", this battle, etc... They're pretty consistent, yeah they many times have way more fun writing the punchlines of certain characters, making it one sided like in "Cleopatra Vs. Marilyn Monroe" or in "Clint Eastwood Vs. A few things I'd like to mention: 1. You missed the stealth reference with the Jussie Smollett line. Remember, it's the follow up to "How did dropping off the Empire feel". Jussie was well known because of his being the main star in the TV show "Empire", and after it was revealed that he faked the whole hate crime attack thing, Fox fired him and his career was ruined, so he got dropped off of Empire. 2. The Nintendo line wasn't just a pun about Donkey Kong and Donkey meaning ass. When Nintendo made Donkey Kong, Universal sued them because of the name and thinking that it infringed on King Kong's copyright. But Nintendo hired a lawyer who said in court "Well actually, Universal never actually registered the copyright for King Kong, so it's technically Public Domain, therefor Nintendo isn't in the wrong here." Also, fun fact, that lawyer was named "John Kirby" and was the namesake for the pink puffball himself. 3. I love how sometimes ERB and Death Battle point out the same thing, considering in Godzilla vs. Gamera, Boomstick calls Godzilla "Ass-for-brains". 4. Another little stealth pun. "You ain't even the bombest monster from the *sea G* ". CG. As in the CG that Godzilla's been animated in CG since it started becoming prominent, as well as the entire rap battle being in CG 5. The gesture when Kong says "Bing Bong fuck your life!" he's actually saying "Fuck you" twice to Godzilla. The placement of his arms is the Italian-American gesture for saying "Fuck you" to someone, and New York's famous for having a lot of Italian-American descendants in it 6. The thing about "They left your nuts on the cutting room floor" is also pointing out that, when Godzilla DID first come over to the west, the script editing removed any and all mention of nuclear war. Since Gojira was a metaphor for how what we Americans did to Japan by dropping the bomb on them twice, and it was the first time any form of Japanese media mentioned the nukes since they had been dropped, America didn't want people to be afraid of that (mainly because the MPAA is weird and would've probably thrown a fit), so they just made him a mindless rampaging monster. 7. Can I just say that even though Godzilla won the rap battle, Kong's second verse kicked ass and was probably the best part of the entire rap battle 8. The bridge you're thinking about is the Golden Gate Bridge in the 2014 Godzilla film, it's a major American landmark located in San Francisco, California. Also, from what I've discovered, a Double Bass was used for the original roar for Godzilla. 9. Actually, from what I've researched, Godzilla didn't do a haiku, he did something called a "Senryu". Apparently, according to genius, Haikus have to be about nature itself and are usually positive, whereas Senryu are more cynical and hateful in nature. Although Godzilla IS a force of nature, so that might be why he specifically calls it a haiku. 10. 8 Films. Ishiro Honda directed 8 films in the Godzilla franchise from its conception all the way up to 1975. 11. You skipped over the "Victory Dance" line that references the silly jumping victory dance from Invasion of Astro Monster that he does after being Ghidorah. 12. Also the Apex line is a reference to how Apex was the company that sent Kong after Godzilla, AND they're the ones that make Mechagodzilla in the 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong film.

48:42 The "swinging digits in triplets like Ghidorah", while obviously a reference to Ghidorah being three-headed, is also one of my favourite lines in the battle for another reason. It's not super deep but Godzilla is actually rapping in triplets in that line, or 3 notes in the space of 2. Not great at explaining stuff, even when i know what i'm talking about, which is rare, but basically imagine a single beat in music, a triplet would be 3 evenly spaced notes played in that single beat if that makes sense. So it's a double reference to both Ghidorah and the actual manner of how he's rapping the line itself.

"You ain't a rap Godzilla, more like prey to me" can also be read as "You ain't a rap god, Zilla, more like 'pray to me' " 1. References Eminem's Rap God (as you mentioned) 2. Equating Godzilla to "Zilla", reference to the '98 film which he also references in the very next line 3. Godzilla should pray to him, as he IS a (rap) god unlike Godzilla. That “Lizard of Thunder” might be a triple entendre. Godzilla was able to magnetize himself with lightening in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla in order to defeat him. The original Godzilla vs. Kong had Kong have the ability to absorb lightening in order to have an advantage over Godzilla. The third one being that Godzilla did have a clash with the Avengers in Marvel comics. Him and Thor were having a power struggle with pushing a building and it seemed they were equal in strength.

It's less that people are mad cause Bryan Cranston would have made a more interesting protagonist that people were mad about... tho he would have been, and more because if I remember he was Marketed as being such.

17:27 To my knowledge it was both. Godzilla VS Frankenstein and Kong VS Frankenstein were both planned. This was the era where Kong was more well known. So as a result they stole the rights to Kong and replaced Frankenstein with him for Godzilla. In the original script Frankenstein was gonna be powered by lightning. But even after replacing him with Kong… they didn’t take that out.

30:38 Iirc, Zilla was officially described as a monster that Americans "mistook for Godzilla" and is now legally Zilla (complete with a trademark on the name) after Toho bought the rights to him (just to have Godzilla kill him in Final Wars and then ensure he's never used again in another movie). So yeah, he's canonically Zilla and just an impostor Godzilla, or at least in Final Wars (which is technically more canon to begin with). In fact, in Final Wars Godzilla kills him _in_ New York (and I think he goes there in an older movie anyways, forgot which one but it also had monsters go all over Earth).

RKO was the movie studio that released King Kong in 1933 and was the primary rights holder until Producer Dino Dean Larentis got the film rights for the 1976 remake. In the 80s due to the lawsuit over Donkey Kong, a judge would award Universal Studios the majority of franchise rights to Kong with the creator Cooper family keeping certain rights and RKO keeping certain other rights.

26:13 I don't think anyone actually saw the giant or colossal squids back then(they live in the deeps and rarely, if ever, come to the surface); they saw the battle scars on the whales that hunt the squid, and speculated about what kind of sea monster left such marks. It was this century when human eyes saw a live specimen, I think, and that was through a deep sea camera.

This rap battle was one of the mist savage things ive seen. Personally i thought Godzilla had this one. He was aiming for Kong's throat the whole time and throwing Haymakers with those lines. You cant beat that Jessie Smollett line and the kaiju haiku and that pacific rim 2 analogy. Kong while i love and respect his bars. They cut damn deep, he really needed to stay on the offensive. He was like trying to parry G's blows and shank him with the boxcutter a few times with those punchlines. But the few he had- CUT DEEP! I give it to Godzilla

"Animated rabbit fur flambé" the original King Kong was a stop-motion puppet made of rabbit fur Also fun context i haven't heard anyone bring up with Kong's 'Here's your sign' line, while being a flex that Kong can learn sign language, is also to my knowledge a direct reference to the trademark bit of American comedian Bill Engvall. In those bits, he will reminesce on an outwardly stupid person/situation he encountered, and end it by giving them 'their sign', which says 'I'm stupid' as a warning to other people

Robert Oppenheimer was two rounds
