Prickly Pear Limeade
For 2 servings
INGREDIENTS:
-4 prickly pears, yield slightly to pressure, similar to a ripe avocado
-3 strips of lime zest, about 1" long each, removed using veggie peeler
-1 small strip of fresh ginger, about 1" long and 1/4" wide, more or less to taste
-½ cup fresh lime juice, from 3-4 limes
-1/2 cup water
-2-3 T agave nectar, or to taste
PROCESS:
-Slice prickly pear in half from top and bottom. Lay it flat, and with a paring knife, cut ¼" into the skin, and pull the rest of the way off with your fingers ... kind of like a kiwi.
-Using a vegetable peeler, cut 3 strips of lime zest
-Skin your ginger, and then cut a 1"
-Add water and then agave
-Blend it together for about a minute, starting on low and increasing to medium high.
-Strain through cheesecloth-lined sieve, squeezing out as much of the liquid as possible
-Pour into glasses filled full of ice cubes and enjoy.

Is there a difference between Green prickly pears and reds? Or are the green ones not ripe yet?

Julio Garcia The green ones are the ripe ones since they have a sweeter taste and the red ones are a bit more bland or sour.

@Tastemade, thanks for making Thirsty For! It's one of my favorite things on KZread.
Having grown up in Tucson, I fondly recall nights filled with a cup of horchata and toast with prickly pear preserves spread on. Wonderful recipe you have here.
such a pretty color!
This looks AMAZING!!! Congrats on the show from Spain! xxxxx
i love tastemade ... videos THANK YOU
u sir are awsome, those are my two favorites on tastemade to watch!
What I like about this Thirsty For... segment is that they do cultural drinks around the world that many don't know about. And when I see them do a drink from a country I've been to or love, I get really excited. I know butterbeer is dear to all of the potterheads out there, but honestly, I'd like the last episode to be a drink that reflects part of a country, be it be halo-halo or the Yak tea.
This is my favorite channel on KZread hands down
I love the color of that drink, it's so vibrant~!
I love the editing!

omg i cant believe your making doogh next week!!!!! i cant wait!!!
Gosh, that looks refreshingly delicious.
I agree Butter Beer is so common. Watching this channel I've learned about new cultural drinks, and I don't want to end the series off with something everyone knows...
Thank you! I grew up eating these. You can find them at just about any Mexican market in CA. Just be forewarned that they are not usually de-spined but that's nothing a fork, knife and some hand-eye coordination can't fix. Hopefully more people will learn how tasty prickly pears are. Bravo Tastemade.

haha...I found out the hard way a few months ago that they aren't usually de-spined. Those suckers are a nuisance!
Thanks for this recipe. I was wondering what do to with the little guys my mom just bought from the farmer's market.
Dang, the color of that drink is insane! So pretty!
it looks like dragonfruit! not sure where i can get it here in singapore but it seems lovely
I think it would be reeeeeaaally cool if, since its the 50th ep., they did all three and have it be a longer video. I vote for that :)
Butter beer!!! Always wanted to try it
I SOoooo Enjoy Ur Videos!!!! The Music is a Cheerful Nostalgic Bonus with this One (What is it Called?) I Hope U Continue with More Creativity as U Go. :D
Please do them all!!!! So yummy!!!
Just made this and it was delicious! I found the prickly pear (at least some that looked trust worthy) at the local Whole Foods. The great thing about the agave is that you can add more to taste even after it's served, and it won't need time to dissolve. So much better than sugar. Best served really cold in my opinion. I might even make this into ice pops!
So pretty!
beautiful color!!! *_*
HALO HALO!!!! I already know how to make it but it's so gooood.
You guys should do ginger beer!
*might try making some of this
This looks delicious. I love eating just the prickly pears but might the
Yum! Probably a stupid question, but what's the best substitute for the cactus? Would love to make it, but doubt I'll find it anywhere in my area. Thanks!
This drink looks really good :)
I'd love to see the "thirsty for" version of a butter beer!!
i dont know why but whenever i watch your videos the ice cubes are almost perfectly cubed and nice. . . . i must find your ice cube dealer!!!!!! >.
Always wondered what cactus juice tastes like. Looks pretty refreshing. We don't have that here, where I'm from
How is this even a question? If you guys don't do Butterbeer...well... AVADA KEDAVRA!
i made this but I pumped up the nutrition by also adding 1 cup of fresh aloe juice to it instead of just plain water ( 2 tblsp aloe blended with water). it was amazing. I also used honey instead of agave.
Awesome I juz wana drink it!
I totally agree!!! Everybody has a friggin' recipe for butter beer.
I found, on the off chance, some prickly pears at my local grocery store one day and totally made this! Let me tell you - this is one you remember. Delicious! If I could say anything, though, it's that the ginger, though tasty, doesn't do much to improve the flavor - I preferred it a little more simple. And this shit is strong af. Cut it with a lot of water.
TAHO
butter tea! sound awesome X3
Beet kvass!! (lactofermented drink made from raw beets, water, salt and whey, which is the liquid left after straining yogurt) But yakbutter tea sounds great too :)
That looks so delicious. But for peeling ginger you might want to try using a teaspoon. Run the edge along the skin with some pressure, that way it just scrapes away the skin and leaves all the good stuff for being used in whatever you're making. :)
I would try it, but i dont think that i will find all of the ingredients here^^ but it look really tasty :)
Would love to make this! But when we can get cactus fruit here in sweden its green and doesent really tast like anything. Would love to taste them ripe! :)
Where do i get that kind of ice cubes?? So cute n tiny!!
Aw man this looks really good. Now where to find those prickly pears...
HALO HALO, it's a really unique drink that deserves some recognition.
Looks quite similar to a purple dragon fruit
Tibetan yak tea sounds pretty interesting. It has my vote!
BUTTERBEEEEEEEEEER!!!
Could you just please make the top 3 drinks for your last 3 episodes? PLEASE!!!!
Oh yay...something I can probably actually try making. I'm excited now! All these drinks look so good, but then when the ingredients are listed, I get let down.
omg BUTTERBEERRR!
