Planetary Freecoaster Internals After One Month! + How To Take Apart / Rebuild

Taking apart the Planetary Freecoaster after over a month of hard riding to see how the internals held up!
This hub could change BMX freecoaster hubs FOREVER!
The internals of the Planetary Freecoaster from Free Night are similar to hubs weve seen before, but have one giant difference; planetary gearing.
This allows the hub to be a cassette when moving forward, then immediately go into freecoaster mode with NO disengagement.
This is completely unlike and other freecoaster hub available.

I'd like to try one of these out, I don't even have a cassette hub.... I'd love to work w/ a BMX company and help troubleshoot these.

Thank you Brant! I'm glad to know there aren't any signs of wear yet but I might as well ask you something important here since I bet other people will want to know too. Have you heard anything about availability for replacement internals if they do start to wear? They are plastic after all so they're eventually going to wear down and buying a whole new hub when that happens would suck. I don't see anything mentioning that on their website or elsewhere and that concerns me a bit unless these hubs are warrantied, which I don't see anywhere either.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm assuming based on the fact that they sent me a spare axle by itself that they do have or will have the small pieces/ parts available. I also think that the ezra internal parts may also work, but I'll have to double check on that one. Ill keep doing updates of what the internals look like, but as of right now I have a lot of faith in this hub. I put it through some on purpose stress in a lot of the videos about it, and it still looked like new inside

@@Brant_Moore It sounds like it's worth it to me then. Now I'm just hoping shipping won't take forever if it's coming all the way from Israel. Kinda weird that they're selling it like a finished product when it seems they still have some loose ends to tie up. I sent my questions about buying replacement internal separately to freenight by email so I'll report back what they say. Definitely let us know if you find out it's compatible with Ezra parts.

It’s coming from Israel because that’s where they are based and personally shipping things from. It only takes a week to get here from there and you will get an email back 100% answering your questions. Tal is the guy who does a lot of the online stuff and responds to emails and he’s a really awesome dude

@@Brant_Moore I'm glad to know shipping is fast. I heard back from Tal and he said they have been selling the hub since May of 2018. He said they haven't yet figured out a maximum longevity for the clutch but he said it's very durable. I'm assuming this means they haven't had one way out completely yet. He said there would be no problem with getting replacements but only for people who actually bought the hub. They don't have an option on the website but they would supply the replacement parts for free if they wore out at this point because it's new and they want happy customers. He really does seem like an awesome dude from the way he replied. Knowing all this stuff takes my remaining worries away. I think it's time to buy the hub.

I'm skeptical about only having three points of engagement. But I guess that wouldnt be an issue unless you had a habit of landing flat off ramps. I did see how it works now. The clutch at the back forces the pawls down in coast mode and releases them when going forward. Very cool.

The profile z coaster trusts 3 pawls so I’m sure that system is okay. Your thoughts on the concept of how it works are almost right. You’ve got it reversed since the pawls have springs that force them down automatically

Didn't know that about the zcoaster never having owned it. I'll take my guess on internals as a win since it was based on what little I could see in the video! Good stuff brother.

Yea its not something that would be assumed based on profile/madera's other hubs. So far after 1 month, the internals are most definitely a win! Thanks for watching man

Does this hub unlike your video on the freenight that the axle is bended on one montg riding ?

I’m about ready to buy a new rear hub. Never had a free coaster. I wonder if I should get this or wait for the magneato hub?

Well, it kinda depends. If you'd like to try a freecoaster and not having pedal pressure for back tire tricks isn't a deal breaker for you, 100% the planetary would be a good one to get. But if you 100% need pedal pressure for certain tricks, then maybe the magneto would better suit you. Kinda up to your riding style

It’s pretty cool. Good to hear it’s holding up well so far. Did you guy figure out why the pedal pressure wasn’t working consistently?

Haven't figured that out yet. Even the people at the company chalked it up to Trevors skills. haha

you need some grease in there if you want this hub to work perfect a long time

If that were the case, there would be grease in it from the start. These guys know what they’re doing.
