How many TV chefs today would attempt to make a foreign dish whilst being berated by a French lady whilst also being bilingual and translating for the viewers her criticisms? Can you see Gordon Ramsay or Nigella Lawson doing that? Nope, I can't either! Keith Floyd is an absolute legend and long may his programmes continue to play!

It's funny, now-a-days you can see Gordon doing this. The way they speak when learning is so similar. Plus Gordon knows French... He trained in a French restaurant

Gordon Ramsay is fluent in French...he lived in Paris as a young cook under Joël Robuchon and Guy Savoy. He even has 2 restaurants in France with Michelin stars...I’m almost positive Gordon could easily cook, translate, be humorous, and handle an old bat at the same time.

So does Marco
Hugely entertaining. What a star he was. And she's great too.
Ladies and gentlemen, please note that Keith Floyd was fair and honest and willing to admit a mistake. He was a real gentleman because he generously admitted that his dish was inferior to the one prepared by the French lady in this classic clip. We don't see this because we don´t see the whole clip: in the end, the French lady makes a proper piperade, Floyd tastes it and praises her and says it's much better than his own!

yes. I remember laughing my head off at that. something about "do it like she does and forget my British rail scrambled eggs"
The lady is a force.
Oh man this woman is an absolute legend, love her
One of the best ever Floyd scenes! I still remember laughing when I first watched it as a kid!
Nearly ten years since this clip was uploaded and it still outshines anything that's made today, amazing live presenter even in recorded mode. Happy New Year 2020
This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
"In brief, it's absolute rubbish" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Keith Floyd was one of a kind. Never ever there will be one again. Brilliant personality.
this man is a legend
I loved her sneer. Only the French can do it that well.
One of the greatest tv cooking sketches ever
I'd love how to learn how to cook from this lady.
This has got to be my favourite Floyd cooking clip. He's just getting roasted the whole time by the lady, shaking her head and berating his every move 🤣 Floyd was always entertaining. What he lacked in instruction (he always said it wasn't a lesson) he excelled in charisma and flare 🤣
Just amazing and one clip that demonstrates keith floyds brilliance ... how many cooks or chef todays would risk the wrath of this lady let alone not cut it from the final recording .... keith was upfront and not trying to be something he isnt .. no bravado .. endless outtakes ... lets the video clip explain itself. This basquez lady took k no prisoners and floyd hid nothing. The real deal he is so badly missed and no one even comes close...
Wow. Probably the best cooking show I've ever seen. Loved it
Can't believe I have to sit through an advert to watch a video posted by the BBC.
keith floyd a legend!
What an absolute legend! God bless Keith!
Great stuff. I like how she's wearing the apron with his name on it. It's like she's his conscience.
What a man !! god rest HIM !!!! Absolute genius in any situation the best of British,
Gordon Ramsey has done something like that actually, I saw a special where he went to Vietnam, traveled around learning different types of traditional cooking, and then invited all of the people who had taught him to a restaurant and cooked for them. It was very refreshing to see him a bit out of his element. He seems like a nice guy when he's not in a scripted show having to shout at people.
Absolutely brilliant! Always love Floyd but this is special. If only more cooking shows were like this...
Love this lady
Without Floyd I wouldn't be the happy alcoholic I am now)) wine and food with attitude, I love it)
I got sloshed with him many years ago one lunchtime in Thailand. A fantastic experience but I have still not fully recovered ! 🤤 R.I.P KF

Was he filming there at the time?
This is missing the best bit when she cooks her version and Floyd loves it. He was such a good sport, and Mimi was terrifying.
Absolutely extraordinary. Sadly would never make the cut today with the egos of current Tv cooks.
Floyd was masterful in handling this battle axe.

“Battle axe”? Woof!
I love how she is wearing the Floyd Apron all the while lol!!!
Why have the BBC cut this clip so short? What makes this scene such a classic is the next part where the formidable French lady effortlessly rustles up a proper piperade, and they warm to each other as Floyd's English charm begins to work on her.
Christ, what a dragon. Brilliant!
He's so cool. Hahaha.
Haha, great stuff!
He used to feed off getting hammered by other people, he didn't care. Fair play to a legend!
Floyd was great! RIP Keith Floyd.
LONG LIVE FLOYD"s Videos!
Gold
Keith was such amazing chef he done what most chef didn't do was get local people trying his food n if they didn't like it u knew it was the truth
I've not seen the full episode for a long time but it seems all of this was done with good humour. They're bantering in French like friends and because Keith Floyd is so sharp on camera it all culminates brilliantly with him translating her good natured insults at the end. One of the great spontaneous TV moments from one of the great TV personalities 👍
That is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. God Floyd was good. Just real.
I love seeing the domestic kitchens of yesteryear!
Brilliant, could do with Floyd in the troubling times we are in today, be great to have his insights on world affairs
That lady ain't impressed, but that's the point of this vintage Floyd sketch.
I love the interaction. Smiles that could kill.
No wonder we love to hate the sodding Frogs. lol. Bravo Keith and well done Madame for keeping him on his toes. We love you really.
I want to see the whole episode, watching Floyd have an argument in French with this lady is the most entertaining thing I've ever seen 🤣

Does anyone think that keith floyd and that woman are basically the same person
she fancied him
The 🐐
Basque mamas are BEYOND SAVAGE
Floyd is great here. In the end the ego is dropped and the great man conceded defeat and applauds the great ladies dish. Brilliant brilliant, brilliant TV presenter.
IIRC the lady made a piperade afterwards to show him how it should be done, and he admitted that hers was better.
No one can ever get close to our Floyd.
🤣 she was brilliant
@Arnatuile11 "Comme ça" → "[do it] like this"
Pity they didn't put the rest of the video in where she made the meal properly and Floyd loved it. That was far more entertaining
Floyd was the best.
Two forces of Nature locking antlers in a battle to the Piperande, ... or is that the bitter-end ?
@mythoe That is true, but perhaps she's speaking French because Keith doesn't speak Basque?
I wonder what was the lady berating about. It must be fun to hear.
@djamorpheus yes! he was hullicinating about his alter ego and even the camera picked it up
Left out the best bit were she cooked one
Madame est magnifique ne rendez jamais votre tablier !!!
The main problem that I always saw w/ Floyd's version is that he uses waaay too much oil/fat for a dish of that size. I'd use one tablespoon of olive oil or fat whereas he uses at least 2-3 tbsp (i.e. I would use one-third to one-half of what he uses there). Secondly, it looks as if the onions and peppers are pre-cooked (say the onions are). Bottom-line: his dish is too damned greasy. And it does look like scrambled eggs w/ canned ratatouille tossed in! Miss you Floyd!!!
j'ai compris tout
Pas facile pour un anglais de faire une véritable pipérade ;-)) mais elle a raison !!!! but she is right !!!!
This is what was great about floyd they were not always perfect but we got to see the fails that way when there were success you could believe them
someone tell me what 'comsa' means, she only said it about twenty times in this video (excuse my terrible French spelling)

😆great he could take criticism like that
I kind of assumed that they were probably friends & she was winding him up.
I have been watching this video while eating my piperade. Did I see well that the eggs were in the pan just for 35 seconds? That is too short. I think that my piperade was better. First I put pieces of onion and green pepper in a pot with a little hot oil, I stirred them for a minute or two, then I added a bit of water and stewed them until they became soft, then I added salt and three eggs and I stirred evenrything for 5 more minutes.
Haha it’s amazing. The old bat

"Most television is crap.." --- Keith Floyd.... "All television is bogus.... The man doesn't do bogus..." Producer David Pritchard talking about Keith Floyd.
She skewered him, poor Floyd. Great television though.
3:31 - 3:38🤣🤣🤣
This is making me hungry! I remember another episode where he was in France. He was slurping wine as usual, and bitching about an old woman who was standing in the back, calling her an old witch or something, because she didn't speak a word of French. Tu m'énerves, he says towards the end on this clip. Well, she was getting on my nerves too. Brilliant TV chef. There will never be another like him (although I also rather liked brash Anthony Bourdain). Santé, Keith!

on youtube as Keith Floyd Wild mushroom omelette recipe I believe. Weird that you referred to Anthony Bourdain in the past 7 years ago when he only died last year, unless that was edited afterwards. But yes Floyd & Bourdain = two of the best :)
I love that she won't shut up lol
What was the fat he put in at the start? Is that saindoux or butter?

Mon dieu eggs in the lard!! Olive oil much nicer!
I didn't know that he spoke Ghanaian.
Sadly missed, he would have shone like a beacon in this day and age.
hah destroying floyd
mais franchement c'est vraiment pas une pipérade
If you understand french this is more of a comedy sketch she does tell him nurmerous times too cook the dish and stop showing of it great
I bet they rutted like wild boar after this.
If anyone married her....he surely worked out to let her do the cooking.... ................ cheers Merlot tonight!
What a woman
@shifttradition I really don't think she has got spunk, would explain why she's so frustrated!;)
to be fair that is in no way a piperade, have a quick google to see what it should look like.
Rick Steins seafood odysee should have been done like this with the actual chef's whose recipes he was stealing commenting on the rubbish he was telling the viewers to make!
The woman you can tell was extremely beautiful when she was a young woman
she acts like some ones mother. Nag nag nag.
It was never about the omelette.
