How many TV chefs today would attempt to make a foreign dish whilst being berated by a French lady whilst also being bilingual and translating for the viewers her criticisms? Can you see Gordon Ramsay or Nigella Lawson doing that? Nope, I can't either! Keith Floyd is an absolute legend and long may his programmes continue to play!

It's funny, now-a-days you can see Gordon doing this. The way they speak when learning is so similar. Plus Gordon knows French... He trained in a French restaurant

Gordon Ramsay is fluent in French...he lived in Paris as a young cook under Joël Robuchon and Guy Savoy. He even has 2 restaurants in France with Michelin stars...I’m almost positive Gordon could easily cook, translate, be humorous, and handle an old bat at the same time.

Ladies and gentlemen, please note that Keith Floyd was fair and honest and willing to admit a mistake. He was a real gentleman because he generously admitted that his dish was inferior to the one prepared by the French lady in this classic clip. We don't see this because we don´t see the whole clip: in the end, the French lady makes a proper piperade, Floyd tastes it and praises her and says it's much better than his own!

This has got to be my favourite Floyd cooking clip. He's just getting roasted the whole time by the lady, shaking her head and berating his every move 🤣 Floyd was always entertaining. What he lacked in instruction (he always said it wasn't a lesson) he excelled in charisma and flare 🤣

Just amazing and one clip that demonstrates keith floyds brilliance ... how many cooks or chef todays would risk the wrath of this lady let alone not cut it from the final recording .... keith was upfront and not trying to be something he isnt .. no bravado .. endless outtakes ... lets the video clip explain itself. This basquez lady took k no prisoners and floyd hid nothing. The real deal he is so badly missed and no one even comes close...

Gordon Ramsey has done something like that actually, I saw a special where he went to Vietnam, traveled around learning different types of traditional cooking, and then invited all of the people who had taught him to a restaurant and cooked for them. It was very refreshing to see him a bit out of his element. He seems like a nice guy when he's not in a scripted show having to shout at people.

The main problem that I always saw w/ Floyd's version is that he uses waaay too much oil/fat for a dish of that size. I'd use one tablespoon of olive oil or fat whereas he uses at least 2-3 tbsp (i.e. I would use one-third to one-half of what he uses there). Secondly, it looks as if the onions and peppers are pre-cooked (say the onions are). Bottom-line: his dish is too damned greasy. And it does look like scrambled eggs w/ canned ratatouille tossed in! Miss you Floyd!!!

I have been watching this video while eating my piperade. Did I see well that the eggs were in the pan just for 35 seconds? That is too short. I think that my piperade was better. First I put pieces of onion and green pepper in a pot with a little hot oil, I stirred them for a minute or two, then I added a bit of water and stewed them until they became soft, then I added salt and three eggs and I stirred evenrything for 5 more minutes.

This is making me hungry! I remember another episode where he was in France. He was slurping wine as usual, and bitching about an old woman who was standing in the back, calling her an old witch or something, because she didn't speak a word of French. Tu m'énerves, he says towards the end on this clip. Well, she was getting on my nerves too. Brilliant TV chef. There will never be another like him (although I also rather liked brash Anthony Bourdain). Santé, Keith!
